The feature of setting different article lifespans for different feeds is great, except when you go change the lifespan for a feed and then hit save, nothing gets saves, so there doesn’t seem to be any way to *use* the feature. I clicked something that opened an article preview pane, which is nice, but then there’s no way to close it - the entire control disappears! - and I was stuck until I figured out that “sift mode” under the view menu really means “hide preview pane.” Basically - awesome thinking - please be a little less clever in the UI so users aren’t left scratching their heads wondering how to do what they want. And how do I actually change article lifespans? Because that’s one of the main things that attracted me to this, so it is a bummer to have paid my ten bucks and find it just isn’t there anywhere I can find it. ### 3/5 — Love everything but *2026-06-17, version 1.0.14* The inoreader support. The app stops syncing after only a few days and I have to keep logging in. ### 4/5 — I like the App and have one proposal *2026-06-04* I’ve tried quite a few apps. I like this one the best. There’s just one feature I’m missing. I’d like to be able to block images and videos in some feeds but not all. I think this feature would fit in really well with Currents' concept. ### 4/5 — Good RSS app but yet to nail reading experience *2026-05-30* Came back to try again after a few updates. The UI has gone through a great deal of polish but reading experience leaves a lot to be desired. Text extraction is very slow (~6s avg) and I still can’t use a sans font on reading view. It’d be good if I can select for which feed I want full text (like Reeder). ### 3/5 — Good ideas but buggy Mac App *2026-05-14* I really like the ideas but sadly at least the macOS app lacks a lot of polish and is riddled with a lot of smaller and bigger bugs that make daily-driving this app nearly impossible. Just to name one, when I open an article, go back to my River and then close the window and open it later again by clicking the Dock icon, it re-opens the last opened article that I had already read… Another more grave issue is that adjusting the Article lifespan for a source just doesn’t save most of the time. Another thing that’s sadly missing is that none of the feeds show the proper favicons, just colored squares or circles that apparently can’t even be customized. Speaking of small annoyances, the sidebar sometimes jumps around weirdly when right clicking on items, not a huge deal but gives the app a unpolished and buggy feel. ### 4/5 — Update: really needs filters *2026-05-04, version 1.0.13* Originally I had this at five stars, because it is awesome. And while that is true, it could really use filters for me to fine tune my sources. The app has these weird overly general suggestions like “you skipped the last several stories about Apple,” but I really just want to stop seeing the Apple TV, Apple Music, and Apple Watch stories from that source (as an example). Some sources cover a bunch of subjects, but I really just want one or two of them. I can filter very well on Bluesky, so I tend to not use Current nearly as much. ### 4/5 — Very nice. Just two notes: *2026-05-01, version 1.0.13* The reading view does not respond correctly to taps at the top, which should cause the article to scroll to the top. The custom webview looks nice with its custom toolbar, but since the app needs to open a standard webview in order to display Safari Reader mode, there seems little point in not just opening the standard webview in the first place. Also, the custom webview doesn't support magnification. ### 3/5 — So much scrolling *2026-04-27, version 1.0.13* This is a nice enough app, but it doesn't involve simple UI things that should be necessary. Why does clicking on river not take you to the top? You have to scroll and scroll and scroll and then pull down to refresh. Why? Bravo. Beautiful app! ### 5/5 — Finally *2026-04-18, version 1.0.13* I’ve finally found an RSS reader that seems perfectly okay with my tendency to just nope out of online life now and then. I don’t feel overwhelmed by unread stories. I can just hop in and vibe with the flow. This is a news aggregator that just sorta rolls with my flakiness. In the best way. ### 5/5 — Switched from Reeder *2026-04-17, version 1.0.13* Have used Reeder since waaay back and never thought I’d find anything as focused, polished, or purposeful to replace it. Until Current came along. Reeder is the best as what it does and I’d say retains that title for all ‘email-RSS’ apps. But Current has a distinctly different approach - an organic-esque stream of content based on your sources. It took me a while to adjust to the different pace for reading - the periods of emptiness felt awkward at first. But now I feel comfortable when it’s quiet. Calmer. I slightly neurotically miss my Reeder archive - but honestly I’ve not got the greatest system for re-reading stuff so figure I’m gradually getting over it. Am yet to fully get to grips with saving / releasing but I prefer to have a very small number of feeds so am really happy with my trickles of content now and then. Thanks for creating this new way of consuming feeds. Highly recommend you try it and give yourself a couple of weeks to adjust. ### 5/5 — Does what it promises *2026-04-17, version 1.0.13* I know from the title, this may sound like it should be a mediocre review. This is not a mediocre app, it is an exceptional one. It promises a uncluttered, simplified RSS reader, and it delivers. Before I adopted this app, I used Reeder, itself a fine RSS reader. But, the unread count, and that I let it climb bugged me. I was drawn to the app to zero out that count way too often. Having a RSS reader that does not shove an unread count in your face is refreshing. Calming, even. I can read items in my feed, or not, as I choose. There are improvements that could be made. Things like the APOD feed, it could be easier and more consistent to load the web page for the feed itself. I have not managed to get the keystrokes for previous artcle/next article to work, and I’m not sure if the problem is me, or the app. I like the three-paned view, but I think that won’t show up if the window is too narrow. These are nits though, small things that I think could be done better by an app with a simple mission, that executes brilliantly. ### 5/5 — Beautifully Stress Free *2026-04-17, version 1.0.13* This reader removes all the stress from following many feeds, it gives you control of what matters and somehow does that with very simple controls. This is a marvel of design (actual design: both how it looks and how it functions) ### 5/5 — The RSS client I didn’t know I needed *2026-04-17, version 1.0.13* I can have various feeds that publish at wildly different cadences and for the first time not feel overwhelmed by the content I’ve chosen to subscribe to. ### 4/5 — User interface issues stop me from loving this. *2026-04-16, version 1.0.13* I really want to like this app but there are any issues with going to a webpage where videos on the webpage will just keep trying to open full screen and I can’t find a setting to actually disable these features. ## Most critical reviews (10 lowest-rated) ### 1/5 — Developer is a liar *2026-08-10, version 1.0.15* Really disappointed with this developer who has deceived DaringFireball and their readers with his lies. Not sure why he’s not come clean. Wish I could get my money back have the idea of supporting this deceiving individual. ### 1/5 — Good idea, poor execution *2026-05-22, version 1.0.14* I have to say that I love the idea behind the app, but I can’t shake the feeling that the execution was “vibe coded”. The app, particularly on iPad, is riddled with UI and interaction bugs (try running the app windowed and UI elements will overlap, article lists go blank, etc.). I fear that although the app has seen updates, the developer is already focused on his next project and Currents will permanently remain half broken. ### 1/5 — Awful *2026-02-28, version 1.0.6* The interface, while attractive lacks any real functionality. Marking articles read is downright frustrating and seems to be erratic. When I was scrolling through a list of feeds, the list itself vanished in the center and rendered on the top and bottom of the screen, confined to the article listing bar, and not the rest of my screen. Ugh. Needs a lot of work. ### 1/5 — Useless… *2026-02-27* … despite the rather lengthy explanation of the thought process behind it (which intrigued me enough to spend some money on it). I quite simply can’t find any reason why this is supposed to work better than any other RSS reader out there. If you’re really stressed by the count of your unread articles: Just switch that off. **Developer response:** Thank you for the review and your thoughts - I’m sorry the app didn’t quite land for you. Please let me know if there was something I could do better to more accurately describe the experience and what I’ve built for people! If you still have the app, I’d encourage you to give it another whirl on the latest releases. Lots and lots of feedback has been woven in and many updates have made it much more interesting to use, I think. One by tapping an icon above the story, an icon with a totally mysterious design and function, so I tried it and poof, story gone. Another I accidentally swiped in the list, and again it's gone. That swiped does display a label by the icon that's revealed during the swipe but it's light font on a light background so I can barely read it. No undo. And no history of read stories that I can see. Also you can only browser the stories in the feed through a thin strip on the margin wasting the rest of the screen real estate. It's just not a great experience. How about you make that a little wider add a photo or something from the article? Shame on me for buying an app that the dev doesn't even let the customer try out first. I'm a sucker. ### 2/5 — It looks great, but needs some work *2026-04-13, version 1.0.13* Nice looking app, and I like the minimalist styling, but found it took too long to load articles, and I somehow often ended up with the author image at the top instead of the article image. Also, missed the ability to filter articles out based on keyword, author, etc. ### 2/5 — Lots of little annoyances *2026-03-12, version 1.0.10* I like the concept of this app but it insists on adding “From Current” as a source in my feed. No matter how many times I delete it, it always comes back. It also has lots of minor annoyances like every single time you ‘release’ an article there is an ‘undo’ pop up. There are also frequent suggestions that are meant to be helpful like suggesting that I prioritize or deprioritize sources based on how often I seem to open things. Overall I wish this app would just leave me alone and let me read things. ### 2/5 — Great idea, execution not ideal *2026-03-11, version 1.0.9* Love the idea. I’m a heavy user of feedbin (which is supported) and essentially it just doesn’t work for all those feeds. It appears unable to pull in individual voices off feedbin reliably. I’ll check back in when it’s more solid. ### 2/5 — Honestly much more work and stress than typical rss readers *2026-03-07, version 1.0.7* It's buggy, it's new, but I think fundamentally it's like the most stressful screen of NetNewsWire's Today or All Unread, with no simple way to get at what you want. Fading out things you ignore is fine except you have to stare at them until they go away or interact with them. Releasing things is the same as hiding read, except literally more effort to find the inconvenient button at the top or double swipe up from the very bottom to trigger the only convenient button. I have been so stressed with other RSS apps, feeling like it was homework to keep track of all those new posts. In the end I just did abandon the app. With this app I don’t have that issue at all, I love the concept of “currents” and “river”, and when the river sleeps, it feels liberating to me. It is very clever and innovative and I highly recommend it for anyone that has felt stressed with RSS apps in the past. ### 5/5 — Revived my love for RSS *2026-06-15* Simple and gets out of the way, in the best sense. You get a river of news and that’s it. Progress is saved. Sync works well. I can’t say I care for the “voices” thing, and I wish I could turn it off. RSS clients have historically made following sources an emotional commitment: do I really want to be nagged about every little update this source has to publish? Only after Current did I come to appreciate that was a design issue. Most clients seem designed with an eye for tweaking for its own sake: the UI, the typography, the refresh settings. Current is the opposite. I guess the UX is so good that I find it difficult to go back to NetNewsWire, even when I think it’s technically better in a bunch of ways. ### 5/5 — …gaze upon the news as it drifts by… *2026-06-13, version 1.0.14* Imagine yourself relaxing on a golden sand bar along the bank of a meandering river, sun shining down on your face, the gentle rustle of tall meadow grass in the distance. A tree branch floats by, bandied about by the current, green and yellow leaves swirl past, an occasional raft or kayak navigates the waterway. You glance up and watch them pass in and out of existence, resonating in your mind like a plucked guitar string fading into the wind. This is how information should be consumed. Own your attention again. ### 5/5 — This is how internet content should be digested. *2026-05-26, version 1.0.14* In over 20 years of smartphone ownership, this singularly the best app I have ever installed. Online content can easily become overwhelming, in both speed and volume. That feeling has only grown over time as we’ve moved from blogs, news, forums to social media. I’d love to see the “currrents” approach available on social media apps. Even decentralized social media, like Mastodon, can still give you a sense of endless scrolling to catch up on what you think you missed. FOMO is a real problem. For now, my RSS feeds have become more human. More sane. ### 5/5 — Un lecteur RSS sans stress *2026-05-09* Cette app est le travail d'un passionné, ça se voit. Quel bonheur que de ne pas avoir un badge d'articles non lus comme sur les autres lecteurs de RSS ! De plus, j'apprécie grandement le fait de payer une fois et de ne pas devoir encore un énième abonnement perpétuel. La seule chose qui manque selon moi est la possibilité d'avoir un filtrage de ses sources en local : pouvoir par exemple ne pas afficher certains éléments de certaines sources en fonction de mots-clés. ### 5/5 — Made me rediscover RSS *2026-04-19, version 1.0.13* I’d used RSS years ago and gotten away from it. Terry’s blog posts introducing this intrigued me so I purchased Current Reader. The app is definitely functional but designed to be beautiful to use and Terry is responsive if you have questions or even just praise. Apps like this make using my Apple devices more pleasant.
