### 5/5 — Finally a way to use my SearXNG instance from within Safari

*2022-06-19*

The limited selection of search engines bothered me since switching to macOS. I've setup a SearXNG instance which I was only able to use via e.g. Alfred but not from within Safari. (Apart from going to the website manually.) This extension finally lets me use my search engine like any other just by typing the keywords into the address bar. Love it!

### 5/5 — Great extension!

*2022-01-06*

This is providing a piece of functionality that really should be in Safari. The developer is responsive as well and added a search engine I use to the list. I love supporting projects like this.

### 5/5 — Awesome Extension

*2021-11-30*

This extension is exactly what I've been looking for. I needed to change my default search engine on Safari from google to Brave and this extension allows you to do it!

## Most critical reviews (10 lowest-rated)

### 1/5 — swisscow

*2025-10-02*

Depuis la dernière mise à jour quelque soit le moteur sélectionné l’extension renvoie vers Swisscow au lieu du moteur sélectionné. C’est vraiment rageant.

**Developer response:** This should not be the case. It is working well for 1000+ clients. If you get in touch with us using the email id in contact, we can work it out!

### 1/5 — Great Concept that doesn't work

*2024-11-21*

I have sent emails to the developer, with no reply. I just tried it again. Set it to search Google, and it goes to Bing. Yesterday it went to Brave.

**Developer response:** Dear Dfteacher. I have not received any email. That is in fact strange after 3 years of the extension working well for everybody. Could you check if you have any other extension enabled? Please feel free to reach out to registros@onmail.com so that we can assist you with that.

### 1/5 — rip off!!!

*2024-08-27*

Doesn't work. No help support. Beware. Scam.

**Developer response:** What doesn’t work Jackson? We are here to help.

The app works perfectly fine. Please let us know. These fake reviews are hurting indie developers for no reason.

### 3/5 — Good start

*2025-03-18*

This is really nice, but it seems to be missing ui to disable and customize existing search providers, and also cannot handle !pattern bangs, but only pattern! Ones, which makes it incompatible with e.g. how duck duck go bangs work.

**Developer response:** Thank you for your feedback dear user!

Bangs do work in both directions:

G! Blah blah blah
!g blah blah blah

Both should work.

May you try again please? Feel free to reach out if you identify any other areas of concern.

### 3/5 — not great

*2023-12-18*

This extension is limited to 1 custom search engine. It will not add chrome-like functionality of custom search engines where a shortcut can be created for any website.

### 3/5 — Clunky

*2023-06-01*

Not so great if you want to quickly and easily search different sites, as you need to choose the site each time you search and also activate/deactivate it.
There is also only one slot for a custom search.

Some suggested improvements:
* Ideally make it work the same way Chrome's custom search engines does.
* Alternatively, add a keyboard shortcut to pop up the list of search engines so that I can type in the engine I want.
* Let me add multiple custom searches, that I can name, instead of just one.

**Developer response:** Thank you so much for your comments.

Inspired on what you said, we have sent for review a new version with a few corrections, new search engines and bangs! support.

### 4/5 — Mobile version appreciated but unpolished

*2026-08-02*

Glad to have it working on mobile, but I’d like the option to perform a Google Search by typing “g {query}” rather than “g! {query}”. Also, when I use “g!” it pollutes the search because it isn’t scrubbed from the query when redirecting. But I can use Kagi to search in Safari now so at least there’s that. I’ve also enjoyed the desktop app without issue for a while.

### 4/5 — Only 1 custom search?

*2025-08-29*

Could have been 5 ★ but need ability to add more custom searches. But otherwise works very well.

**Developer response:** Hi!

We are happy to report that you can now add as many as you want!

### 4/5 — Love it, wish more customizability

*2025-01-29*

I love the initial options given,! I would appreciate an ability to add a custom shortcut though. I do a lot of research and often use google scholar in the search bar. It would be nice to be able to just use a single letter for the shortcut similar to other browsers to search (the exclamation point is far away and I often mistype it).

### 5/5 — Works as expected

*2026-08-02*

It does exactly what it says. Lots of customisation and much faster than the free one that hangs all the time.

### 5/5 — Amazing app

*2025-08-16*

This is a very good app and very useful really amazing

### 5/5 — Works with &udm=14 on Google

*2025-03-31*

I wanted a way to set Safari to append &udm=14 to my Google search queries, removing AI “results” from the top. This extension works perfectly for that. Thanks!

### 5/5 — Works like a charm

*2024-11-22*

Added my custom endpoint for SearchXNG and now it's my default search. Super simple, have my dollar!

**Developer response:** It makes me happy to see that it is helping you with your workflow. Please don’t hesitate to contact if you have any specific request!

### 5/5 — Did exactly what I needed it to do!

*2024-11-11*

I needed a way to change Safari’s default search to ChatGPT and this did exactly that! I was able to change the settings to chatgpt.com/?= and voila! It worked. Thank you!

### 5/5 — Parfait

*2024-06-26*

Exactement ce que je voulais faire. Dans Safari, on ne peut pas choisir 'Brave' comme moteur de recherche. C'est donc transparent, comme une recherche Google.

### 5/5 — Nicely Done!

*2024-03-21*

We need this in Safari. Being able to switch engines for the native search entry box makes research on the Web much easier. Google once was the best, but no longer provides reliable results, at least for deep and wide research. Many other search engines are better. Now you can easily switch among the other search engines.

### 5/5 — strong alternative to xSearch

*2024-01-06*

Allows easy use of multiple search engines on the fly. Especially useful these days as google's search expereince continues to slowly deteriorate.

### 5/5 — Amazing

*2023-07-12*

This is very useful.

### 5/5 — Marche parfaitement

*2023-03-31*
