UK-wide cycle journey planner CycleStreets on your mobile device! Cycle journey planner for cyclists, by cyclists. Plan routes from A to B anywhere in the UK, with a choice of three routing modes to suit a range of cyclists from beginner to regular commuter, plus a circular leisure routing mode. And the Photomap lets you submit photos of infrastructure problems or good practice around the UK. PLAN CYCLE ROUTES FROM A TO B (TO C, D, ..) Select a start and finish point by clicking on the map, by searching for names/places/postcodes, or by using your current location, and click to obtain the route. CHOICE OF THREE ROUTING MODES The app produces routes that will suit most cyclists. It can optionally can find faster or quieter routes for different types of rider. Routes are fetched from the CycleStreets website. You can switch the route type after planning it, and can save and rename and organise routes. HILLS? NO PROBLEM! The journey planner knows about hills, and finds routes that take advantage of the descents and avoids the ascents where possible. It balances these against the available road types. The route can be displayed on a map with contours using the OpenCycleMap option. STAGE-BY-STAGE ITINERARY As well as the main map view, planned routes are loaded into an itinerary view, so you can follow each part of the journey. The street name, time and length are all shown, as is a detailed map for each individual stage of the journey. Routes are saved so you can also follow them again later. PHOTOMAP The Photomap is a cycling advocacy tool used by campaign groups around the country. Use it to browse examples of problems or good practice, and add your own pictures. Need more cycle parking in your favourite spot in town? Sign in with a free account and add a photo of it to the Photomap. OPENSTREETMAP Routing makes use of OpenStreetMap data, the brilliant 'geo-wiki' to which you can contribute. Note that, at present, some areas of the country have better coverage than others. Streets and paths of all kinds, including Sustrans routes and Local Authority network, are included. Routing quality is being developed all the time, with new types of cycling and street data being added and interpreted by the route planner. And I found this app to be consistently better than any alternatives. I have always been super impressed by the quality and safeness of the suggested routes. The option to move between fastest, balanced, and quiet route is great. Best to use the base map as Apple vector map for navigation. It takes one or two goes to get used to it, especially placing the start and finish points and saving the waypoint. ### 2/5 — Great idea - impossible UI *2022-10-01, version 3.2.6* The idea is great but the map is impossible to look at - how anyone can navigate using this is beyond me. The interface is incredibly unintuitive. The base idea is terriffic so I am rooting for you guys and the next version ### 3/5 — Is this abandonware? *2022-05-13, version 3.2.6* It doesn’t play nice on iPad for planning, and it feels quite outdated on iPhone. All maps aren’t available. ### 1/5 — Can I give a 0 star *2022-02-07, version 3.2.6* Maybe this app was made in 2008 cuz it has a nasty small squarish aspect ratio. Difficult to use. Laggy. Not smart. Was hoping to find a cycling planner app better than Strava or Google to help navigate county a-roads in a new area. Absolutely rubbish. Apple, take the app down. It’s not worth being on here. ### 5/5 — Great Routing *2021-12-26, version 3.2.6* I’ve checked a fair few apps and this is the best for routing (in London at least). No other routing service incorporates purpose built Quietways, LCN, CS routes as well as CycleStreets. It’s so good Citymapper apparently uses CycleStreets routing! I prefer using the CycleStreets app at the moment as it shows an overlay of wider cycle network (if you select the OpenCyclemap graphic display in settings) so it’s easy to start exploring outside of a routed journey. Wish list: -on the iOS app the choice of map graphics is cool, but it’s a shame the overlay of the cycle network (LCN, Quietways, CS etc) only appears on the OpenCyclemap style. It would be great if the overlay could be toggled on/off for all map styles. -Apple Watch app 🤞🤞 -or lobby Apple to use CycleStreets routing on Apple maps 🥳 ### 5/5 — I love this app *2021-11-20, version 3.2.6* I’ve cycled in Edinburgh for decades but this app has helped me find routes I would never have come up with on my own.
