### 2/5 — Irritating App

*2023-08-11, version 7.0.12*

This App is incredibly annoying. It is slow. You constantly have to refresh your purchase. Why??
It needs re-engineering by someone who understands CX.

### 3/5 — Over 60 years

*2022-07-28, version 6.0.19*

I’ve read the “comic” since 1960 it’s given me immense pleasure all these years however recently the app is difficult to operate today 28th July can’t download issue

### 3/5 — Couldn’t log in after update

*2021-07-28, version 6.0.19*

Switched from paper to digital a couple of months ago. All fine until last weeks upgrade, couldn’t log in etc. Raised a ticket with mag direct, and looks as though it’s sorted now. Been reading it. 50 plus years, yes it’s changed, but that the instant nature of the web etc.🚴🏻‍♂️🚴🏻‍♂️😀

### 2/5 — Broken since iOS 14.2

*2020-11-08, version 7.1.0*

Stopped working since iOS 14.2 releases, comes up with unstable internet connection error and will not let me download issues to either my iPhone or iPad

### 1/5 — New app won’t access my subscription. ITS RUBBISH

*2018-08-24, version 7.0.0*

Wasted too much time trying to log in, then resetting password and still not able to log in to view the magazine. (I have a print suscription)

Within the app, I can access the manage subscriptions web page that proves I have a valid account, username and password and subscription, which only makes me feel doubly frustrated.

Now I find I am unable to even give the app a zero star review.

Each time the app is updated, this happens, then I have to wait for custom4 services to get round to replying

### 1/5 — A massive step backwards

*2018-08-10, version 6.0.2*

As an iOS subscriber, why do I continually have to restore purchases, and why does the “subscribe now” button never disappear? Furthermore, why is the cover not hot-linked to the articles it references (the whole table of contents has gone from the magazine). Very poor implementation of the magazine experience. Used to be better - not very good, but not this bad.

### 1/5 — Need to log out and in every week!!

*2018-03-01, version 6.0.2*

App doesn’t recognise my subscription so I need to log out and back in each week. Not good and needs to be fixed.

### 1/5 — New App very poor.

*2018-01-26, version 6.0.1*

Numerous bugs. Have deleted and reinstalled app a number of times to no avail. Currently will not open at all. Current issue unread. No response to e mail. Disastrous update.

Update26/01/2018. Cancelled subscription. No change to terrible app. Never got a response from developers. Download was problematic at best, couldn't read current issue if iPad not connected to internet.

### 2/5 — Poor upgrade

*2018-01-11, version 6.0.1*

Since latest upgrade, it is better, but still worse than the original version. Losing my place in the magazine each time I open it is so poor. Plus start up is slow. Hint -Load the app first, then check for web news as a background task. Upped my review from one to two stars. Before you tinkered, it was five. Food for thought?

### 1/5 — Avoid at all costs

*2017-12-20, version 6.0.1*

Took out a digital subscription and received an email a couple of days later saying may account was now active and I could download the magazine. 2 weeks later and lots of chasing customer services I still can’t access the magazine subscription I have paid for. Customer Services are worse than useless and don’t even acknowledge an email sent or do anything to resolve the issues.
Avoid this at all costs if you don’t want to lose your money!!

### 4/5 — Still not ready

*2017-12-07, version 6.0.1*

Version 6.0.1
This is a big improvement but I still have to sign in to download the mag even though I’m already signed in.

Version 6.0.0
The pages appear to be constantly refreshing leading to blurring of text and resetting to full page when zoomed in.

I haven’t been able to read a single article since the app was updated. I’ve subscribed to Cycling Weekly for nearly 20 years, maybe its time to reconsider.

### 1/5 — Stick to a print copy

*2017-11-15, version 6.0.1*

This is the worst app imaginable. Good content but let down by the app which is just appallingly bad. Stick to a print copy for the time being and hope the developers go on some UX training.

### 1/5 — The wheels have fallen off this one!!

*2017-11-08, version 6.0.0*

I've had a digital subscription for over three years; you've just supposedly improved the app and all my downloaded issues now need downloading again. I could ride the Tour faster than that will happen. Thanks CW for nothing!!
And don’t expect them to solve your download issues either - when they deign to reply to queries they are always ‘looking into it’ never get back to you with an actual answer. Seriously s#&*£ service.

### 1/5 — Does the job

*2017-10-26, version 6.0.0*

Avoid. Avoid. Not worth one star. Been reading this mag for 20+ years (paper then app) and this new app makes me want to give up. More than that, the new app is FORCING me to give up as it refuses to recognise my subscription. Zero stars only.

Re-revised my review down to one star.

Latest version doesn’t open the mag at the page you left it at. When I tilt my iPad all the text goes blurry before settling again. Can’t I just have the old version back, it wasn’t broken...

Latest updated version also now doesn’t fit on the page properly and every page can slide up or down. The old app at least showed me the entire page, so I’ve edited my review and dropped a star.

Original review....

Ok, you pestered me for a review: so here it is.

Cycling Weekly app is functional. It lets you read the magazine and mostly delivers it on time and without hassle.

However, the layout is just the print layout so glorious big pictures get spread across two pages and zooming to read text is clumsy, especially near the edge of pages. Some pictures still show the marks used in illustrator to lay them out which isn't pretty.

3 stars for a functional electronic equivalent to the paper magazine which mostly works and is convenient but lacks anything else.

### 1/5 — New app very poor. Good cycling news, articles.

*2017-10-26, version 6.0.0*

New app is much worse than the old version: print fades and glitches, pages resize unpredictably, pictures are cropped across screens, current page is not retained on start-up, subscribers locked out, necessitating “restore purchases” the list goes on... all worse than the older much better version.

Perhaps as annoying, the editorial staff and Time Inc don’t care about their subscribers. I raised these issues with them directly via email weeks ago, no response. Perhaps they are gradually working through similar complaints?

The app is a major downgrade and a disservice to a generally good magazine. Sad.

### 3/5 — The green option

*2017-07-17, version 5.1.0*

It's a great way to consume your favourite magazine without wasting paper but as an eMagazine is has a long long way to go. Yes you get what you get in the hard copy, but sometimes it's nice to leaf through pages over coffee rather than stare at yet another glowing screen. It also makes me laugh when the 'pullout posters' are not as you'd think whole pictures across the centre, but cut in half and distributed on different pages; a bit sloppy. Then, to make this a truly unique magazine and differentiate it from the paper one, why not add web and video links. I'm sure advertisers would lap this up! So, a great green option, but more work to be done to make it a credible eMagazine.

### 1/5 — Subscription- restore all purchases does work

*2017-02-05, version 5.1.0*

Avoid this app, and Mountain Bike Reader.
After resetting my iPad, the "restore all purchases" doesn't work, and I cannot access my subscription end in Aug 2017. Not to mention the last years back issues.

## Most critical reviews (10 lowest-rated)

### 1/5 — Doesn’t even work

*2024-10-30, version 7.1.1*

Terrible app. Subscribed, tried to download latest copy, just now says “queued”. Useless.

### 1/5 — Worthless App

*2024-01-13, version 7.1.1*

I downloaded this app to subscribe to the Cycling Weekly digital edition. Since subscribing I have not been able to read a single edition! No help, utterly hopeless and a waste of money!

### 1/5 — Hopeless

*2023-08-24, version 7.1.1*

Week after week i have to delete and reinstall the app and then restore purchases. Wish I had not subscribed to this useless app and stuck to paper copies

### 1/5 — Latest app version is rubbish

*2022-10-15, version 6.4*

Avoid - takes your money for yearly subscription and still asks for you to pay for weekly edition.

### 1/5 — Avoid at all costs

*2021-02-04, version 7.2.0*

I took out a subscription, paid my money. It was for some reason cancelled and I never received a refund.
You owe me!

### 1/5 — Failure to download editions

*2020-11-09, version 7.1.0*

This may be linked, but since the roll out of iOS 14.1 for iPad I have been unable to download digital editions of the magazine, a “hint” message appears saying I need a “stable internet connection” to compete a download. There is nothing unstable about my internet connection. This is a bug that needs fixing ASAP.

### 1/5 — New app doesn’t work

*2019-03-14, version 7.1.0*

I’ve been reading Cycling Weekly (on my phone) for a long time. But this new app makes it really difficult.

I read the web content and pay for the magazine but the web content is jumpy, interrupted by ads loading and pop ups. The nav is totally biased towards the PDF making access to the web section clunky.

But I love the content.

Please just sort out the nav.

### 1/5 — App not working

*2019-01-14, version 7.1.0*

Worked only on day 1, then the app wanted to charge from then on, even though logged in. Sent a message, but got a random reply that the message couldn’t be translated, I would have thought someone on customer services could read English. Will cancel when have a chance to call them.

### 1/5 — Too many adverts

*2019-01-02, version 7.1.0*

Ads just block it and slow it up. Pages hard to read most times. 👎

### 1/5 — Waste of time

*2018-10-22, version 7.0.0*

It’s very poor, totally erratic, almost nothing works, nothing stable and videos ... just blank screen

Just about to read an article and then the app closes - I contacted support and a reply from time said have you logged in?

## Most praised reviews (10 highest-rated)

### 5/5 — App upgrade disappointing

*2017-11-15, version 6.0.1*

The latest upgrade no longer recognises my subscription, despite multiple attempts and emails from magazines direct. Disappointing as it was a really good and convenient way to read cycling weekly.

### 5/5 — RoyR Bedfordshire

*2017-05-12, version 5.1.0*

The mag is very good and once you get used to it the app works really well. Would have given 5 stars if you provided better coverage of the TimeTrial scene in the UK. Particularly would like to see more results each week.

### 5/5 — Absolutely useless!!!

*2017-03-13, version 5.1.0*

I would give zero stars if I could. Despite repeated contact with magazines direct they seem completely incapable of making the digital subscription I have paid them for work. They have taken my money and their App still demands ADDITIONAL payment for each edition if I want to read it. So I have an App but no magazine to read on it!!

My advice, steer well clear of this App, based on my experience I would not trust the company behind this to organise a doll's tea party on a sunny day!

### 5/5 — SkyHighSi

*2016-12-09, version 5.1.0*

Loved the paper version but this Ap is just so good. Spending much of my time in various EU countries it means I can now access my favourite magazine. Thursdays now always mean find a hot-spot and download. Always great content and Dr Hutch should come with a health warning. SO funny!

### 5/5 — Cycling weekly iPad version

*2016-12-02, version 5.1.0*

The overall package reflects the magazine well. I have read the hard copy for many years.
The only thing that has irritated me is the sensitivity of the page touch can zoom out rather than navigate the page.
Plus point no more print on fingers.

### 5/5 — Worked perfectly for me

*2016-11-20, version 5.1.0*

Downloaded it, downloaded this week's edition, read it and got to the "rate the app" at the end. Everything worked perfectly so I thought I'd rate it and it's 5 stars from me.
IPad Pro and iPhone 7, both worked perfectly.
Looking forward to next week's edition.

### 5/5 — Great

*2016-10-14, version 5.1.0*

Covers areas that the monthly magazines miss. Worth buying every week.

### 5/5 — Great

*2016-07-20, version 5*

Great app, great mag.

### 5/5 — Good

*2016-07-11, version 5*

Good yeah 👍

### 5/5 — Great on iPad

*2016-01-15, version 4.4*

I've been getting CW paper copies for years, and always ended up either giving a pile away or binning them. Then I'd remember an article I wanted to read again...!
This is fantastic, with all previous subscribed copies available at a touch and I don't need to get my reading glasses out, courtesy of the iPad!
