I am connected, and a quick search confirms I am, and yet this app can’t seem to access a connection. It is totally unusable. ### 1/5 — Zero stars *2024-07-30, version 1.7* Who got paid to develop this authentication process? It’s a disaster. The UI is unbelievably poor, way worse than any of the 5 other banking apps I use regularly. When you’re trying to authenticate on the same device it opens the page you need underneath, so it’s unreadable (iPhone 15, Firefox browser). Convoluted, clunky, non-sensical. Fortunately I only throw money into an ISA and leave it; if I needed Cynergy for anything else I’d take a hit on the interest rate and put my money elsewhere. The app ‘unregisters’ itself every time I close it so I have to go through a multi-step 2FA process to get it to work one more time just so I can log in. It’s just terrible; I’ve send feedback to the bank a month ago but they haven’t responded. ### 1/5 — Such a load of rubbish *2024-07-26, version 1.7* Just opened an account and sent £2 to check everything worked OK. The set up process is unbelievably complicated and just didn’t work. The authenticator only works when it feels like it. There are so many different references to ID, passcode, swapping between mobile and desktop, and it falls over every time you need to use it in a hurry. The moment the interest rate drops on this account I'll move the whole lot somewhere else even though I've been with them for years. There new IT is a total pain in the backside. ### 1/5 — Worst banking experience I’ve had *2024-07-15, version 1.7* Can’t wait to move away from Cynergy. ### 1/5 — Single most shocking app I’ve ever seen *2024-07-08, version 1.7* This app, and indeed the entire signup process, is so clunky, bug-ridden and headbangingly frustrating that I’m left completely stunned. Plus it didn’t even work. It’s as if a few developers got halfway through a beta version fifteen years ago then ran out of money. And the small detail that this is part of a system I’m supposed to use to manage my own money led me to abandon the process entirely. Add to the above the fact that I subsequently had to phone up to cancel my application and was told I’d have to physically write a letter to request that my personal details are deleted! First time I’ve ever been moved to write an app review. That’s how angry I am. The system to get into a Cynergy account is so convoluted by far the worst going. Manage to reset it and then register it (which takes 10 minutes) leave my phone for one minute and it’s already unregistered itself before I even get a chance to login. I have ten other savings accounts which use the simple method of sending a code by text. I will never bank with Cynergy again because of it. Their security team should all be sacked. ### 1/5 — NOTHING WORKS FROM CYNERGY BANK! *2024-08-05, version 1.8* Update to version 1.8 has broken the app. It no longer works whatsoever! WHY DON’T YOU DEVELOPERS PROPERLY TEST CODE CHANGES BEFORE YOU RELEASE UPDATES ON THE PUBLIC!!! When I scan the authentication image on my pc with the app on my iPad, and then enter my 4 digit pin, it tells me that ‘this function requires Internet connectivity. You must connect to a Wi-Fi or cellular data network to access it.’ THIS HAS NEVER HAPPENED BEFORE. AND YES, I AM CONNECTED TO WI-FI (BROWSER & OTHER BANKING APPS WORK JUST FINE). For a bank whose tagline is ‘Banking needn’t be complicated’, the CEO of Cynergy Bank Nick Fahy needs to get his act together. The push notification option does not work either! I also tried the stand-alone banking app offered by Cynergy but that too does not start up when downloaded from the Apple App Store. SIMPLY LOST FOR WORDS! ## Most praised reviews (8 highest-rated) ### 5/5 — Works perfectly *2024-05-27, version 1.7* I don’t know why this app has received bad reviews. It works absolutely perfectly for me. It is a very simple process and I find it clever that it uses push notifications. I haven’t had an issue one single time using this app. ### 5/5 — CJW *2024-04-19, version 1.7* I must admit that registering and using the app the first time was a nightmare. However, I spoke with an agent, who patiently and expertly guided me through the process and all is now well. I agree with Jon Br’s review about how strong the security of the system is made by the unusual combination of login screen and app. Well done, Cynergy geeks! ### 5/5 — Does what it says on the tin *2024-01-09* Once my account was opened I received the emails to download the Authenticator app to log on to online banking. Took me about 3 minutes to set it up and was logged in, in no time at all. N.B. This isn’t an App to see your account info, it’s just an authentication app. ### 5/5 — App works perfectly *2023-04-02* I have had no problems with this Authenticator app. Having read the reviews I was expecting all kinds of issues but it worked first time and has continued to work whenever I log in with no issue. ### 4/5 — Better than it used to be *2023-11-30* Having just applied for a savings account with Cynergy, the historic reviews of the app concerned me. I’m pleased to say they seem, on two days’ worth of use of the app, to have solved many of the issues. It’s still not perfect as it’s not completely intuitive, but it’s not bad and I’ve come across a lot worse. ### 4/5 — Misunderstood *2023-08-24* This app gets a lot of flack because their other banks use SMS authentication or otherwise and the users are missing the inherent flaws and massive insecurity in these systems. Yes this app is a bit clunky, you can’t sign in with a single device, you need to ring them if you change devices (relatively painless took me 5 minutes) BUT nearly every other system is flawed by the fact a scammer can phone you up and talk you into handing over your login details as they login to your bank. Not here. To login you need to be in front of the actual machine signing in, with your device in hand, a scammer can’t get round this, so it may be hated by many, but it does make for a strong system once you understand it. ### 2/5 — Doesn't remember app registration *2024-09-03, version 1.8* When I got a new phone I had to re-register this app. Fair enough. However it doesn't remember that it is registered and every time I want to use it, I have to re-register it which is tedious to the extreme. To the extent that it has driven me to seriously consider closing my account and moving it elsewhere. ### 2/5 — Poor Mandatory App *2020-09-14* Having signed up to Cynergy Banking, to gain Online access to the account you are belatedly forced to use this App ( NO known obvious pre-warning as part of Banking T’s & C’s ) for which the Rating Stars paint a picture. 4 weeks to get a response from the bank, of course they accept no liability, citing for it’s for your Security ! What’s wrong with OTP’s like most other banks use ?
