## What is CypherAir?

CypherAir is a fully offline, open-source OpenPGP encryption tool built for iOS, iPadOS,  macOS and VisionOS. It makes zero network connections. There is no telemetry, no tracking, and no possibility of data leakage.

Two Encryption Profiles

• Universal (Profile A) — Interoperable with GnuPG and all major PGP implementations. RFC 4880 compliant, employing Ed25519 and X25519 with SEIPDv1.

• Advanced (Profile B) — Implements the latest OpenPGP standard, RFC 9580, with Ed448 and X448, authenticated encryption via AEAD (SEIPDv2), and Argon2id passphrase protection.

Capabilities

• Encrypt and decrypt text and files, processed as streams for efficiency
• Create digital signatures — cleartext for messages, detached for files
• Exchange public keys through QR codes using the system Camera, with no camera permission required
• Manage multiple keys, each with its own encryption profile
• Safeguard private keys in the Secure Enclave, unlocked only by Face ID or Touch ID

Privacy Through Architecture

• The sole system permission is the Face ID usage description
• Private keys never leave the protection of Secure Enclave wrapping

Open Source

CypherAir is open source and available under the GNU General Public License v3.0 or later (GPL-3.0-or-later) or the Mozilla Public License 2.0 (MPL-2.0).

Additional languages are in progress.

This version completes the planned App Data Protection work for this stage.

More local app data, including Contacts and everyday preferences, is now kept in encrypted storage that opens only after you unlock CypherAir.

### 1.3.7 — 2026-04-29

This update continues our work toward broader on-device app data protection, with the protection framework still being actively refined and expanded.

It also improves the Biometrics Only app access experience when authentication is locked by the system, providing clearer guidance and a smoother retry flow.

On macOS, this release improves privacy screen behavior around system authentication prompts for a more stable unlock experience.

### 1.3.6 — 2026-04-28

This update adds Apple arm64e support, improves authentication, strengthens private-key recovery, and begins rolling out stronger protection for CypherAir app data.

Before updating, please back up your private keys and any important CypherAir data. This version includes automatic migration changes for local protection data. In rare cases, migration may not complete as expected and could cause problems.

- Begins rolling out stronger protection for app data. This work is still in progress and will continue in future updates.
- Improves Face ID, Touch ID, and Optic ID authentication when unlocking CypherAir or changing security modes.
- Makes private-key recovery more resilient if a security change or key update is interrupted.
- Reduces cases where system authentication appears repeatedly. Some cases may still remain, and we will continue improving this.
- Improves security boundaries and recovery behavior across the app.
