## What is CyShield?

CyShield helps you stay safe in Cyprus. It shows the nearest public shelter, the latest official warnings and the emergency numbers you need, and it keeps working when the mobile network doesn't.

NEAREST SHELTER
• See the closest public shelter the moment you open the app, with walking and driving times
• Browse every public shelter on the map, with capacity and details
• Navigate there with Apple Maps or Google Maps in one tap

WORKS OFFLINE
• Save the whole map of Cyprus (about 60 MB) to your phone
• Shelters, streets and place search keep working without internet
• The saved map updates itself on Wi-Fi

WARNINGS
• Official weather warnings from the Cyprus Department of Meteorology
• Recent earthquakes near Cyprus
• Satellite fire detections and flood-prone areas during rain warnings
• Notifications for the hazards and area you choose

EMERGENCY
• One-tap calls to 112 and other emergency numbers
• What to do when the sirens sound, in the official Civil Defence wording
• Send your location to your emergency contacts by text message
• Keep a medical ID on your phone for responders

HELP KEEP IT ACCURATE
• Report a shelter that is locked, closed or hard to find
• Send a shelter check with photos after you visit one
• Mark flooded roads for people nearby

PRIVATE BY DESIGN
No account, no ads, no tracking. Your contacts and medical information stay on your phone, and your location is only sent when you choose to send a report.

Free for everyone, always. Optional support payments unlock nothing.

CyShield is an independent app. It is not affiliated with or endorsed by the Government of the Republic of Cyprus, the Civil Defence or any public authority. Shelter information comes from public Civil Defence records published before the March 2026 review and may be out of date. In an emergency, call 112 and follow official instructions.

Optional support:
Every feature of CyShield is free. Support payments are voluntary donations and unlock nothing. Monthly support costs EUR 2.99 per month, renews automatically until you cancel it, and can be cancelled at any time in your App Store subscription settings.

## Version history (last 2 releases)

### 1.0.1 — 2026-10-02

MEDICAL ID
• Redesigned as a card, and you can now share it.
• Allergies and conditions turn into lists as you type.

FIXES
• The distance to a shelter could be measured from where you last had the app open rather than where you are now — most noticeable after the app had been in the background for a while. It now updates as soon as you return to it.
• Tapping an alert notification opens the map on that alert, instead of wherever the map was left.
• Tapping a shelter keeps the zoom you chose. The map only moves if the shelter would otherwise be hidden.
• Walking and driving times fall back to a straight line far less often — a moment without signal no longer sticks.
• An interrupted offline map download continues where it stopped instead of starting again.
• Outside Cyprus the app now says so, rather than showing a blank map that looks like it failed to load.
• Satellite view no longer disappears on some networks.
• A "Saved" confirmation was invisible in the light theme.

ALSO
• Weather warnings now arrive close to the weather they are about, rather than the moment they are published — often hours earlier.
• Greek and Russian reviewed throughout, including counts and place names on the map.
