The game receives updates pretty often, but never addresses this. Build an engine to crank rewards up for every move. I agree though that the last UI update was a fail, a lot of forced scrolling and showing/hiding ‘drawers’ which are critical to strategising. It’s not as fun with only 2 payers and I don’t want to play with random people ### 4/5 — Betrayal! *2024-11-26, version 2.1.9* One of the best card-based iOS games, bar none. The game rules, the engine, the artwork and music… this is a joy to play. But it could be a little better - it had portrait mode many years ago, and would be nice to have portrait mode again - the card “Inevitable Betrayal” puts the AI into a betrayal spiral, each of them playing the card and passing it on to one another, effectively removing all other intrigue cards from the game and keeping the AI who’s holding it from taking better actions. Please fix this behaviour, either by lowering the desirability of playing that card or allowing us the option of playing without it (or some other fix) Otherwise, easily one of my three favourite mobile games! ### 3/5 — Please update *2024-10-20, version 2.1.9* Update the darn app for all the money you made from it please, just kee it playable for new devices soon it will drop support and what we’re gonna do look at our purchases and reminiscent? ### 2/5 — Unplayable in Landscape *2024-10-19, version 2.1.9* On an iPhone 12 Pro Max, the text in this game is unreadable in the standard landscape format. There's no option to modify the UI, the text size, or the orientation. Sad too, because it looks like this game would be fun to play. ### 4/5 — Great worker placement game *2024-05-16* If you like worker placement games, this is one of my favorite. Each turn, you're trying to complete quests by accumulating units of various professions (and also money). Each player has a secret agenda, which changes what types of questions you'll prefer. There's considerable variety in how each game plays out, and the sounds and graphics add nicely to play. This isn't a D&D RPG. But it's very enjoyable. It's nice to have a game where you turn your mind on rather than off, on iOS. Edit: Minus one star for the update the switched to landscape. This took a 5-star game and worsened playability. In a strange way, it’s a little prettier. But I have a much harder time playing. They had (and no doubt in their codebase still HAVE) and perfectly good portrait-orientation UI. If they wanted to enable landscape, I wish they’d done it by giving is the OPTION which one to use. As I type this, the average rating is now 2.6. When I first reviewed it as a 5-star game, its average was quite a bit higher. Like a lot of things these days, that’s a ridiculous overreaction. Do have one request that would really tie into the D&D realm. Would love a section in the settings or main menu that gives the lore and history of Waterdeep, or in the card section of the main menu have each card have a lore summary/history about it. I’m NOT paying out AGAIN!!! ## Most critical reviews (10 lowest-rated) ### 1/5 — Poor interface limits playability *2026-02-21, version 2.1.13.163* Played this game constantly until landscape UI came out. Bigger phones over the last few years make the experience slightly better but it’s still much harder to see things than it used to be. This UI is map for a PC or IPad and is not mobile focused. Results speak for themselves. There are only about 20 open game’s, rarely do they get filled. On one hand, I’m grateful/surprised this game is even still supported. But when I play it’s a struggle to play efficiently. I guess it only gets updates because it’s consistent with other platforms, but I kinda wish it weren’t here to taunt me anymore. This game used to be portrait. The game board and every individual card in the game is portrait, so this made sense. But not we have to view it all on landscape forcing you to zoom in on everything. ### 1/5 — First update in 3 years makes game worse *2025-12-20, version 2.1.13.163* I’ve been playing this game for the last 5+ years regularly on an iPhone mini. I think it has its flaws (completely resetting if you look at a phone notification, I’ve had friends unable to create new accounts, game notification badge indicators disappearing when you open the app but don’t take a turn) but was otherwise an amazing game. Which leads me to: I’m not sure why the developer has changed the user interface on the game instead of fixing those core bugs. I can no longer see my intrigue cards without tapping on them and the quest cards no longer show the plot effect without tapping either (and are honestly overwhelmingly large now). The changes to quests seem nice for someone with vision issues, but make the game harder to play for me. Please either make these changes a setting that users can opt into or revert them, thank you! ### 1/5 — Fix notifications in iOS 26 *2025-12-19, version 2.1.12 (159)* Since updating to iOS 26, this game has no options for notifications. Ever since the landscape update this game has plummeted in quality and active. The game itself is a portrait board. Forcing this game to be played landscape to “fit in” with other apps is nonsense. This game was fantastic, easy to play, and powerful in portrait. I download this game several times a year, attempt to play, get frustrated, and delete it. The lack of portrait mode breaks this for me. This was the perfect game to play on the train or while walking, but landscape makes that impossible. Developers pushed a minor update to fix some overlapping graphics issues I reported. However, this simply makes text and UI elements smaller. This exasperates an issue that did not exist in portrait. It used to be playable in portrait orientation, and then there was an update and that changed. Some reviewers went nuts with 1-star reviews, as they almost always do. Personally I preferred that view but it makes very little difference. It’s a terrific game and an excellent digital adaptation. Play it and see. ### 5/5 — A well implemented board game *2025-09-21, version 2.1.9* I wish other board game adaptations were more like this. Zooming in to see card text on small phones works smoothly. Every action that doesn’t reveal new information has an undo option, solving the challenges of a small interface. The whole game is bug-free in solo play against AI, which is how I usually play it. It is that we don’t have to get all of the pieces out for the actual board game when we use it on the iPad. Obwohl das Spiel mittlerweile schon viele Jahre auf dem „Buckel“ hat, weiß es immer noch mit einer hervorragend umgesetzten und flüssig laufenden Spielkulisse zu beeindrucken. Auch die die beiden Brettspielerweiterungen sind verfügbar und ebenfalls toll umgesetzt. Es will schon etwas heißen, wenn ich mir von einem Spiel tatsächlich freiwillig noch eine Erweiterung herunterlade. Einziger Wermutstropfen für alle, deren Schulenglisch schon zu verblasst ist. Das elektronische Spiel wurde leider genau wie die Brettspielversion nie in deutscher Sprache umgesetzt. Dennoch ist das Spiel auf jeden Fall einen Versuch wert. Die Regeln sind vielfältig aber absolut intuitiv und das Tutorial-System ist mustergültig umgesetzt. Playing with AI gets a little repetitive but gameplay is good. ### 5/5 — Excellent asynchronous multiplayer game *2023-11-25, version 2.1.9* (I submitted this review on 14th October this year, but it’s disappeared. So, I’m submitting it again - all of this remains true for us!) SO many negative reviews here of this, most of them old - it’s high time for an up-to-date positive one! I play this asynchronously with 2 friends. I’m in the UK, one of the others is in a different part of the UK, and the third is in Canada - so a very different time zone. And it just works. Very well, in fact. It seems to be a well-balanced, fun, stable, bug-free multiplayer game. I play on an older iPad Pro (2017, 10.5in, iPadOS 17.0.3 - but it was working fine on v16 too). It probably helps if you’ve played face-to-face tabletop D&D (or similar) before, like us, but certainly not essential. The challenge for us has been to find an interesting game for the 3 of us to play and enjoy, with some depth but not overly complex, and this is one of those rare examples, for us at least, that ticks all of the important boxes. It’s a board game conversion. Each game lasts perhaps 2-4 weeks for us, but we’re not in any particular hurry - depends how often you each make a move, of course. As a guide, there are 8 rounds, each with perhaps 4-5 turns per player (depends on chosen options, number of players, expansions used, etc.), so we get around 30-40 turns each per game. Definitely not trivial, but neither is it too long or too complex so that it goes on forever or is difficult to learn. We spent a few months playing the base game with no problems, then bought the first expansion and played that for a while with no issues either, and a couple of weeks ago bought the second one too. Each of those definitely adds a number of worthwhile extras. If you’ve tried it before and gave up because of bugs, I’d suggest that you try again. Perhaps it had problems then, but now it just works. Excellent game, highly recommended by 3 happy online gamers. 5 stars! ### 5/5 — We love this game *2023-10-21, version 2.1.9* This is our favorite game and we play it all the time. Now that we use the app, it is hard to go back to the board game, which is both a good and bad thing… but it gives us a great option for a faster game without having to manually collect and setup all the pieces.
