### 4/5 — Update

*2025-09-21, version 3.9.0*

Does not update as often on apple as it does on android. Apple is on 3.9.0 and android is at 4.4.8 its some bulls*#t but he app is amazing just wish it was equally update

### 4/5 — Only one nitpick!

*2025-05-15, version 3.7.1*

I use this all the time whenever I play DnD and is a life saver. My only complaint is that I don’t know how to change the name of the character once it’s made or if it’s even possible and I’ve been trying to figure it out for ages!

### 4/5 — Difference between iPhone and Android?

*2024-05-12, version 3.5.0*

My group uses this for our game, and normally I would give 5 stars but for some reason, my iPhone version does not have all the same features as my friends Android version. For example, the Warlock class info is missing the spell casting table on mine, while it is present for my friends app. Unsure why there is a mismatch.

Should the two versions be brought to parity, I will definitely change my rating to 5 stars.

### 4/5 — Decent

*2023-11-12, version 3.2.0*

For a free product this is great. The amount of resources available without having to pay is amazing. That being said please fix the search bar. It’s a real hassle having to scroll through all the spells trying to find the one I need.

### 4/5 — Love the app! One thing it needs.

*2023-07-16, version 3.0.0*

Love the app makes working on my spell lists so much simpler. The only thing I hope you add is Split View support for iPad so I can have my written PDF on one side of the screen and the Spellbook app on the side so I don’t need to change window.

### 4/5 — Very useful!

*2023-06-06, version 2.13.1*

I’ve been playing since 1979 and have had a variety of ways to keep track of spells, many hand-written. But at my advanced age, I can no longer write all that neatly and without hand pain.

This app is what I’ve been looking for. Tons of spells listed. I can filter by levels, class, and other things. I took a while to just explore and figure out how it works. It wasn’t too hard.

I use an iPad and if I turn it to portrait the image is large enough for me to see well with my difficult eye-sight.

I agree with another reviewer that space to add notes would be useful. The only other comment I have is that it doesn’t look like there is a way to save (or lock) my selections so I don’t accidentally delete things.

### 4/5 — Update?

*2023-04-28, version 2.13.1*

Needs an update for iPhone! Haven’t had one in over 8 months. My boyfriend has an android and has the option to use spell slots on his Spellbook app, where (as an iPhone user) don’t even have that option or the most recent update. Very frustrating! Please update to match android.

### 4/5 — Awsome

*2023-04-05, version 2.13.1*

Great app but I don’t know where the spells are

### 4/5 — Great app, for a free resource it is far and away better than most paid ones

*2023-03-28, version 2.13.1*

I have begun using this app as a major planning and playing tool for my 5e games, its almost perfect, definitely far better than i had hoped, however, there are a few things i would love to see improved to fully earn that 5th star:
1. Allow users to create custom spell entries, and even label where they come from if needed for 3rd party sources.
2. Allow for more tags on spells, only having “known” “prepared” and “favorite” simply is not enough, although it is a great start.
3. Label if a spell is gainable from subclasses, feats, races, magic items, or other non-base class lists. Such sources are hard to look up, but really can be helpful to know.
4. allow notes to be made on a spell, often its nice to mark down DM rulings, notes on good uses, calculations, or extra features or clarifications.
5. A self setable (can choose how many slots it has) spell slot counter would be really useful. Possibly with a fill in table for what casting bonuses you have for a given class or what you get back on a given rest.
6. A way to designate an image, gif, or video for a spell.
7. An in-app way to post suggestions or glitch reports.
8. A way to add a grid (square and hex) for spacial illustration.

I know, lot to ask saying these all at once, but they really are my only improvement ideas. And if it had these then it would be worth more than most paid apps out there

### 4/5 — Only needs 1 thing.

*2022-06-12, version 2.13.0*

This app is almost perfect but all it needs is a way to separate the spells between levels. Right now it seems like the levels are all mixed in with each other and it sorts them by name. So if that could be added it would be absolutely perfect.

### 4/5 — Pretty good for a free app

*2022-02-07, version 2.12.0*

It has basically all the spells from the source books, there are a few spelling errors or slightly incorrect spell description (such as glyph of warding) where some words are slightly off or misspelt. It would also be nice if we could change the fonts, and also report the spell errors in app (or edit the spells to change it ourselves)

Other than those things it’s really good!

## Most critical reviews (10 lowest-rated)

### 1/5 — Well thanks a lot..

*2026-01-30, version 3.10.0*

App won’t start after last update. Great job geniuses… why tweak something that works is what I don’t get…

### 1/5 — Not working

*2024-10-06, version 3.6.1*

Everytime I install it and tap on it to open the app it immediately closes it out and doesnt even show an open window for it- idk what Im doing wrong hete

### 1/5 — Not sure how

*2022-09-20, version 2.13.1*

So, I might not be little, but I believe in magic. It sounds childish. I want to know, how you got the information (I don’t care how, just keep reading), and if these are real spells. Probably not. But someone I know did something and it happened. Maybe coincidence. But maybe not. By the way, don’t make fun of me for this. (Also I don’t know how to rate it so I’m doing one star. Nothing personal. I just don’t know how to use the book. So what I might be told, I would change my star rating) Thank you for reading! (If you did)

### 2/5 — GOSTARIA DE TRADUZIR PARA PORTUGUÊS

*2026-01-24, version 3.10.0*

aaaa

### 3/5 — Useful but has annoying bug

*2025-07-06, version 3.7.2*

Very useful and I would give this app 5 stars except for the Spell Slots bug. More than half the time I navigate to Spell Slots I get stuck on that screen and can’t exit —all options for settings, edit, reset, and go back disappear. I have to kill the app and relaunch to get back to any other screen.

UPDATE: emailed the developer. :)

### 3/5 — Love the concept

*2025-06-28, version 3.7.2*

I love this concept, and it’s a super easy app to figure your way around. However the spells are not completely accurate to the 5E player handbook.

### 3/5 — Useful but has annoying bug

### 3/5 — Not too bad

*2020-06-17, version 2.9.0*

Has some spells missing. One I have noticed is enemies abound which is odd. But like the look of it and it has more spells on it than most apple apps.

### 4/5 — Great! With one minor problem

*2026-03-27, version 3.11.0*

I love this app! It has a lot of features and constantly being updated.
I have only 1 issue with it and it does require me to only give 4 stars. Now i do not know if i am doing something wrong or not but…some of the spells that have a very large description (like the wish spell) i cannot scroll down to read the rest of the spell!! The app stops scrolling and it cuts off parts of the description. I have other resources to look up the spell sure but it sure would be nice to only need this app for all my spell description and casting needs 😁

### 4/5 — iOS needs some help

*2026-03-17, version 3.11.0*

I absolutely love this app, mostly because it has all spells from all source material, not just the PHBs. My only issue is I have it on iPhone, which means no custom spells, and many of the spells with longer text are glitchy, not allowing you to scroll far enough to see all the content. My partner has the android version on his phone so I can see how great the app is meant to be in it’s full form, just hope the iOS version gets the same treatment at some point!

## Most praised reviews (10 highest-rated)

### 5/5 — Translate to PT-BR please

*2026-05-15, version 3.11.0*

The Best spellbook but only in english on iPhone :(

### 5/5 — Incredibly useful

*2025-08-28, version 3.9.0*

Really handy and useful app, either for a quick reference or for building character spell lists. Only feature I feel it still lacks is a sort by damage type option, otherwise it seems to have everything you could want.

### 5/5 — Amazing App for Spellcasters and DMs!!

*2025-04-12, version 3.7.0*

I don’t typically leave reviews for a lot of apps. However, this one is an exception. I primarily play only magic users. It has been extremely amazing and convenient to be able use this as a way to either quickly look up a spell or to create the lists for my characters. The fact that this app is free is wonderful. I feel it really goes to show that the developer really has a lot of love for the game. The app is updated frequently with having, as far as I know, pretty much everything. Including the most recent 2024 updates.

One thing that I would love to see added in one day would be a way to print out my Spellbook for my characters with the descriptions, components, etc. Even if it was a reasonable fee to upgrade to be able to get that feature. I would be willing to pay it.

### 5/5 — Rad as hell!

*2025-04-11, version 3.7.0*

Everything is on here! It’s perfect. No need to keep using beyond for spells!

### 5/5 — Still Great for 2024 D&D Rules!

*2024-10-05, version 3.6.1*

This is by far and away my favorite and most used companion app for D&D. It’s free, has great sorting features, and contains every spell. I’m not kidding it has every spell from every 5e book and the developer is updating it constantly anytime there’s a new book, once again all for free. I have immense respect and infinite gratitude for that and after all these years I’d sooner draw from the deck of many things then rate this app anything less than 5 stars.

### 5/5 — Exactly what I was looking for

*2024-07-05, version 3.5.0*

I’m new to playing as a cleric in 5e, and was nervous about how daunting it’ll be to pick from so many spells. This app is much easier than flipping through the book, and tbh idk how I’d play my cleric without it.

### 5/5 — Favorite spell tool

*2022-10-18, version 2.13.1*

I love this app. Honestly one of my favorite things and works really well. One thing I would like is if you could sort/search damage types but even without that it’s still amazing

### 5/5 — Track, sort, filter ALL the spells

*2022-03-07, version 2.13.0*

This app might seem to be a simple spell list, but it gives you enormous power through a clear and simple sorting and filtering mechanism. Want to see all second level wizard evocation spells? You can do that!

The interface is intuitive. The design is fun. You can have separate lists for multiple characters.

And it’s free with no ads. I’m not sure I’ve ever seen an app this good without popups, etc. Highly recommend for anyone playing 5e D&D who wants to track spells.

### 5/5 — Excellent app, highly recommend

*2022-01-26, version 2.12.0*

This does almost everything I want.
Small feature suggestions:
- an optional spell slot tracker could be useful
- allowing users to input class and level to restrict the type and number of spells they can learn/prepare would be a bit complicated, but quite useful
Great UI, no bugs I’ve noticed.

### 5/5 — Strixhaven/Ravnica

*2022-01-14, version 2.12.0*

Amazing app. Needs the Encode Thoughts from Guildmaster’s Guide to Ravnica, and the five spells from Strixhaven
