Prefer the navigation, organization, and accessibility of the old app, as I find it to be way more aesthetic and user-friendly. No more crossword access via app with the new update; it is only accessible via web page. If I’m paying for a subscription, all online content should be accessible via app. What is the point of the app if a browser is required for certain material? How senseless. Do better. ### 1/5 — Last update (July 2026) killed the app *2026-07-30* The most recent update killed the app. Previously, the app worked offline. You just needed to briefly connect to the internet and it would update itself with all the latest stories which you could then read at your leisure offline. Now, they’ve completed changed the app. Each story needs to download when you open it. It also tends to freeze up and not download even if you have a great connection. In addition, the app now restricts what stories you see. The culture section is completely gone. The other sections show maybe 20-30% of the stories available on the Daily Beast website. So, what’s the point of the app?? Fewer stories, loads lower than chrome or safari, requires constant internet connection. Sounds like the website but with fewer articles to read. ### 1/5 — 7.21.26 subscription issues *2026-07-21, version 10.1.1* Subscription issues have been resolved. Put this back in the app. It is stupid easy to do. Stop telling me to sign in or subscribe when I am already signed in and already subscribed. ### 1/5 — What is with this?? *2026-07-17, version 10.1.1* The font is enormous! Can you bring it down to half its current size? I don’t need to scroll thru 12 screens to read a small blurb. Also, why is the app sucking the life out of my phone battery? After I read 2 articles anything after that starts draining it about 1% per article. ### 1/5 — App does not retain subscription log in *2026-07-12, version 10.1.0* Every time I use the app I have to log out and log back in to see stories behind paywall. Please fix this!!! ### 1/5 — 7.6.26 Continued subscription issues *2026-07-12, version 10.1.0* I continue to have subscription issues. I’ve shown my subscription. I’ve told them (Anna) told them I prefer signing in with my Apple account. I can sign in but there is a 1 one article limit. They got my money. 🦠 ### 1/5 — The new update is UNUSABLE *2026-07-06* PROBLEM 1: Since the update, clicking on many of the headlines don’t load the article but just a white page saying unable to find article (which I can easily find the same article on the web) and there’s no way to get back to the headlines. I have to exit the app and reload. PROBLEM 2: With just about every article, a paragraph about 2/3 of the way down loses everything after the first line. It’s as though there’s no word wrap and the text extends beyond the right margin. PROBLEM 3: The app no longer auto-refreshes. I now have to always pull down the page to force to refresh. All this is not even to mention the fact that the new UI tweaks are pretty meh, boring and uninspired. This update was a step backward, not forward. ### 5/5 — New app *2026-07-04, version 10.1.0* Lots of bugs keep having to delete and reopen.
