### 2/5 — Coverage for all of Lake County

*2024-10-30, version 6.0*

I live in Florida now. I lived In Wauconda for my entire life until we moved 6 1/2 years ago. I have had the Daily Harold app on my ipad and phone for 20 years plus. I looked forward every morning to reading your paper with my morning coffee. I looked forward to being informed on “Lake county news” including Wauconda and other northwest suburban towns such as Fox Lake, Lake Zurich, Grayslake, and Waukegan to name a few. Now all I get in Mount Prospect, Arlington Heights, Naperville, and Des Plains. I want to see what is happening with Wauconda sports, but all I get is Fremd, Stevenson, Buffalo Grove and Wheeling. I have had my Herold app for more than 20 years but now the formate has changed. I called customer service to see if there was a different version I needed to switch to and was told “ it is what it is “! So sad that the northwest suburbs is being so neglected.

### 4/5 — What’s Happened?

*2024-01-03, version 6.0*

The app is not working as it once was. About six weeks ago seems everything changed. The Business section has more articles than usual, a lot of repeats and only one line of text showing. No articles for DuPage County today. At least the strange characters seem to be gone now. Please fix. Thanks

### 4/5 — Needs search capabilty

*2021-11-18, version 6.0*

App is fine - needs a search engine similar to web version.

### 3/5 — No comics?

*2020-02-28, version 5.2*

Selecting sections is OK but no section is shown for neighbors so what do you select for the comics section? And how about Sat when it's in the main section?

Help?

### 2/5 — Keeps crashing

*2018-07-10, version 5.1*

I love this app… I have been using it daily for several years. Really like that app looks just like the actual paper version. Love to be able to move from section to section. But in the last few weeks every time I try to read on my iPad mini, the app just shuts down. Very frustrating. Please fix whatever bugs are going on so that I can read the whole paper.

### 3/5 — Needs a few tweaks

*2018-04-08, version 5.0*

This app needs a search engine so we can find articles that appear in the print version. Also should offer a section to find columnists, like Patricia Babcock McGraw and Burt Constable.

### 3/5 — Ok

*2017-05-13, version 4.22.300028164*

Ok for overview. Synopsis of the printed version.

### 3/5 — Good app

*2016-09-25, version 4.19.210019278*

Hate the ad that pops up the second I open the app and the sensationalist ads about Kelly Ripa and Ellen Degeneres insult me.

The news content and navigation are great.

### 4/5 — Big improvement

*2016-07-31, version 4.19.210019278*

This version is a big improvement over the last version. It's once again a pleasure to read the Herald using their app. Nice work.

### 1/5 — Next to being worthless

*2016-05-27, version 4.17.680016778*

This is the first review I've written that I've given a one star rating. This app should be titled, "Selected Articles for Anyone". I originally subscribed to the Daily Herald paper version for seven days a week. I had frequent delivery issues so I changed the subscription to Friday, Saturday and Sunday and the digital subscription for Monday through Thursday. The original digital subscription subscription using the Olive Software was terrific. It was like reading the print version on the iPad. This app doesn't include many of the stories in the print addition. I don't even feel like I am reading the beloved Daily Herald print addition. There is no sense in reading the print addition at the barbershop and expecting to finish it with the app. I will stop my digital subscription very soon because this app is so disappointing. Shame on you Daily Herald staff. You really blew this one.

### 1/5 — Bad!

*2016-04-30, version 4.17.680016778*

Warning! Do not download this new App. It is much worse than the previous version.

### 3/5 — Nice format

*2016-02-13, version 4.14.5*

New format is nice but where is the "Sports on Radio & TV"?

### 4/5 — Pretty good

*2015-12-13, version 4.14.5*

It's easy to navigate and you can read 10 articles for free each month. I'm guessing you have to pay for an e-subscription for full access, but that could definitely be more clear. I wouldn't mind paying for one but you should be able to do it from the app, or say how to do so. I like that you can still read all the headlines even after you hit the 10 stories, which is all I do half the time anyway. I don't have a problem with the ads- that's how they make money to stay in business.

### 1/5 — Annoying design; focus is on flashing ads

*2015-10-31, version 4.14.5*

The e-edition was useful, as it presented a digital version of the paper.

This app is terrible! Good luck finding what you want; trying to dodge intrusive ads is like playing an unpleasant video game.

## Most critical reviews (10 lowest-rated)

### 1/5 — This app is a joke

*2024-04-29, version 6.0*

This app is terrible, and the Daily Herald refuses to fix all the bugs, the last updated version was 3 years ago.

### 1/5 — Try joining the digital age

*2024-02-06, version 6.0*

Why no DuPage or Cook County news in those sections? Why no news of significance in Top Stories. If I wanted a few local stories about restaurants closing, I can look up that “news” in The Patch. Horrible.

### 1/5 — Sent me to collections for $40

*2021-05-03, version 6.0*

I will never buy this newspaper again. I don’t even owe this company money and they sent me to collections and dropped my credit score 47 points over $40.

### 1/5 — No search?

*2021-04-11, version 5.2*

I downloaded this specifically so I could research one ongoing news story and there’s no search feature. Seriously, how is that even omitted?

### 1/5 — Frustrating

*2018-07-08, version 5.1*

When it works it’s great. Unfortunately it constantly crashes. They say they are aware and it’s being addressed but still no improvement.

### 1/5 — Constant crashes from flash Ads

*2017-10-21, version 4.24.210030744*

App keep crashing every time it appears to present a new ad graphic. Not worth the aggravation. Will get my news elsewhere.

### 1/5 — Terrible

*2017-08-25, version 4.24.210030744*

I didn't think this app could get worse but it has. Today, 8/25/17, as I write this at 7:30 a.m., the opening page "Top Stories" does not contain a single new story. Each of the 25 articles listed is at least three (3) days old, all dating back to 8/21 and 8/22. Pathetic! And as I've stated on previous reviews, the overall content is poor. Also, the app doesn't allow finger pinches to increase the size of text or photos.

### 1/5 — A Waste

*2017-05-02, version 4.22.300028164*

I was disappointed at turning the pages of my actual newspaper to find limited information in the "Recent home and property sales" there was a general, NOT a specific URL. I opened the app and was further disappointed. There is NO search function. There was NO neighborhood section, that intuitively sent me to the content I was looking for. I looked in each of the sections and found another disappointment, the Cook County area "had no content in the feed"!
A complete waste of time!

### 1/5 — Terrible

*2016-06-17, version 4.17.680016778*

New version came out a month ago and was ok, not as good as the Tribune and other newspapers but ok. Recently however it's been awful. Can't get stories to "pop out" and when i try to expand the font size with my thumb and forefinger, it's blurry so, in effect, I can't read the paper. For the exorbitant price of this subscription, the Daily Herald should feel ashamed.

### 1/5 — Bring back the old app

*2016-06-14, version 4.17.680016778*

Just useless for local news. No reason to have it.

## Most praised reviews (10 highest-rated)

### 5/5 — Former Daily Herald correspondent

*2026-02-22, version 6.1*

Jim Baumann used to be the news editor back at the Daily Herald and now I know The Daily Herald is employee-owned.

### 5/5 — Great Way to start the day!

*2017-09-15, version 4.24.210030744*

Love the App. Maneuvers easily and gets me up and running to start my day.

### 5/5 — Easy to use

*2017-04-07, version 4.21.290025419*

Like the app. It is easy to use and reasonable to navigate. Allows us to occasionally check out what's up back where we lived for so long.

### 5/5 — Great app

*2016-09-22, version 4.19.210019278*

Especially great for an Arlington Heights resident. I like the local, global, and Chicago news.

### 5/5 — Great app for a Great news source

*2016-01-11, version 4.14.5*

The Daily Hearld is the best newspaper in the north and west Chicago suburbs, and the app carries on the tradition.

### 5/5 — Great app great paper

*2015-09-24, version 4.14.5*

If you get the Daily Herald print version definitely download this app. It is a great supplement and easy to read.

### 5/5 — Great App

*2015-05-31, version 4.13.0*

I have been using this app for about a year now. This is an Awesome app and a great newspaper . Just never had time to write a review because it was always being used. :)
Easy to read, loads quickly, with a unique intuitive way of accessing articles from different sections of the paper.

### 5/5 — Concise and well organized

*2014-11-21, version 4.11.5*

Easy to navigate.

### 5/5 — Excellent news coverage & nice clean app

*2014-08-17, version 4.10.0*

Excellent and clean easy to use app

### 5/5 — Excellent
