## Most critical reviews (5 lowest-rated)

### 1/5 — It’s pay to use

*2026-07-16*

Looks awesome, but they make you configure everything on the app, give them a rating and then they charge you. Unfortunately there isn’t a lot of free apps available and the minimum that they could do is to warn you in the beginning that it isnt free

### 3/5 — Transparency

*2026-06-25*

App itself looks really cool/seems like a great study tool but it costs money (7 day free trial) and there's no mention of that at all until after you get through the initial setup. I don't care about the cost, but I think it's irritating and deceptive that it doesn't come up until that point. Charge for your app if that's what you want/need to do, but in this day and age that's the kind of info you need to lead with, not leave until the last second.

### 3/5 — Widget on Locked screen is small

*2026-06-10*

On the preview of the App Store there is a live activity screen with lots of kanji but it doesn’t seem to have that function. When adding as a widget for the locked screen it only has the small widget and not the long widget which makes it hard to read

**Developer response:** Hey, thanks so much for the feedback!

I understand what you mean about the Lock Screen widget being difficult to read. In the 3.2 update, I added a couple of new widget-related features that should help with this: 1. You can now add up to 4 different kanji or words to your Lock Screen, and each one can be managed separately from the widget settings page in the app. 2. You can now adjust the size of the kanji/word, kana, and translation directly from the widget settings page. To access these settings, open the app, go to your profile, then tap **Widgets**. I hope this helps make the Lock Screen experience easier to read and more useful. If you have any trouble setting it up, feel free to email me directly at: aaron@dailykanji.io Thanks again for trying Daily Kanji and for taking the time to share your thoughts!

### 4/5 — Great idea

*2026-07-07*

This is a great idea and is very useful for those of us who want to learn at a manageable pace. One critique I have is that at the beginning I was forced to choose only 500 words/kanji that would appear on my lock screen. I don’t see why all N5 vocab cannot be selected and is limited to 500

**Developer response:** Thanks so much for the thoughtful feedback! As of the 3.2.4 update, the 500-item limit has been removed. You can now add as many words and kanji to your widget timelines as you like, including all of N5. Hope that helps, and happy studying!

Cheers,
Aaron

### 5/5 — Cotidiano positivo
