I've been reading this paper since I was a child in 51 now! For one month it did not work no matter what I did. Woke up one day it was back to normal. Today no Saturday edition, someone there forgot to release it I guess! This isn't the first time. Also the amount of typos for a newspaper upsets me. I really wish you guys get your mess together. If we pay for something it should work! Saw several older reviews with this concern and the issue has not been corrected. The app has not been updated in 3 years. I also had emailed support with this issue and not responded. While the app is down you think that the will allow access to their website. It should not take over a week to correct this issue and I sure that they should has access prior to the update. No update if it will even be corrected. Update: If the news states on email to them stating that they will get back to you in 3 days and don’t. Not even a reply that they are working known issue a solution. How can you trust what they are reporting. Just a thought… ### 1/5 — It's Official -- Worst App Ever *2023-10-04* How is it possible that this app has gotten worse over the months? It just cannot be possible to have found brand new ways to make this app even more useless and annoying than it was....and yet....this illustrious band of app developers ....led by the most useless executives have done just that. THIS APP IS USELESS. How did they manage to mess this up more? It just morphs into some more useless piece of garbage every week. It doesn't download. When it does start....it pauses. When it stops pausing it takes forever. It freezes. You need to remove the app and download it every single week for it even to say hello to you. And where are the moronic executives in charge of this newspaper? Does anyone care? Does anyone...anywhere.... at this newspaper even glance at these reviews...ever? Can they even read? There were times where the unclaimed funds section were distributed through out the pages where I expected to see the news. The unclaimed funds section should be separate and not intermingled with the news stories. ### 1/5 — Hardly responsive *2021-08-29, version 3.9.3* Constant mash up of pages, public notices replacing news pages. Pages often blank. Don’t get Sunday magazine but when asked why, they have no idea how to fix. Told them I have iPad edition, they don’t know what I’m talking about. Since they now publish from Chicago there evening deadline is not compatible with time zone, lots missing in sports page. And editing seems to be done by third graders. Numerous grammatical errors. It took multiple calls to tech services before they understood the problem and the problem still persists. The paper also cuts off the ends of some articles. AP covers the Rangers, an original 6 in one of the best hockey towns. At least still have Lupica, P Bondi and Madden part time tho. National politics is okay, but well short of local madness and mayhem coverage and very little on anything happening in NJ. Editing, grammar, spelling and stories that stop before they reach the end are unprofessional. Love Voice of the People, where you print the crazed whining of the retrumplicans who trash you for being disrespectful the most disrespectful person on the planet. Keep up the good work (but please edit better)! ### 2/5 — Missing front page. *2020-10-09, version 3.9.3* Twice this week there was no front page, the first was the first couple of pages and the second was advertisement. ### 2/5 — Issue Deletes by Itself *2020-07-28, version 3.9.1* The latest version of the app has a bug where any issues that were downloaded, will automatically delete by itself and those issues would need to be re-downloaded. After uninstalling the app and then reinstalling the app, the same problem occurs. The app is nice but it needs an update to address the bug. ### 1/5 — A bad fix to what was once a good app *2019-10-28, version 3.9.1* Your update to the app has destroyed the ease of reading the paper. It’s horrible. If you don’t fix it I’ll be canceling my subscription. It was fun and relaxing reading the paper now it’s frustrating and annoying. Not worth my time and money I used to have the paper delivered but the delivery was horrible also. Too many missed papers. Why can’t they update it? Once again one of the editions wouldn’t download and tech support was useless. But since I’ve downloaded iOS 17 on my Apple iPhone I cannot open the app. I’ve called the customer service twice and they were not one bit helpful. I’ve also emailed them three times and all I get as a reply is that I can expect a reply within 72 hours. The last email I sent them was 2 weeks ago. Still waiting for a reply. . What’s wrong over at the Daily News? So i have to give them one star and that’s only because I can’t send them zero stars. Barry Rudd ### 1/5 — Unreliable *2023-11-08* I am a long time Daily News reader and up until recently I have been using this app to read the news before I head into work. I enjoyed the fact that most days I could get the paper by 5am and be well informed before I head to work. Working the last month or so I have had days where there was no paper and recently no service whatsoever. I discontinued my subscription and attempted to renew it with no luck. The website has me registered as a user but the apps, there are two of them, neither allowed me to log in with the same credentials as the website nor could I log in directly. Contacting customer support for the app only confirmed that my email address was not in their database even though Apple saw me as registered with them for a subscription. Until this issue is resolved I am resolving to read my news from other sources. My loss since I loved how the News represented the city. ### 1/5 — DEFECTIVE APP - DOES NOT WORK SINCE ios UPDATE *2023-11-01* Day after day, week after week, you can keep clicking on the latest edition and nothing will happen. They have your money but you don’t have any product. NYDN certainly should seriously consider a reimbursement and a withdrawal of the application from the App Store. They know about the failure, but do nothing. Perhaps it’s the beginning of the end for the Daily News. If NYDN were publicly traded I would do a deep dive into their financials and maybe short the stock. Unfortunately, their parent company went private in May 2021––so all we can do is enjoy the useless application. smh ### 1/5 — Does the Daily News what more of your money twice. *2023-11-01* It’s seems that you just paid for a 6 month subscription for the Daily newspaper and they no longer supporting this app. It seem they want you to paid an additional subscription on top of what you already paid for their new app with a cost on 6 times more that that you paying now. Also, no feed back on emails and no real support with calls to support. If the app is not being supported, there should be a warning to not renew your subscription for this app. This is just a conclusion based on the facts from the last time this app was updated, emails and calls I made and other people recents reviews. How can I trust the NY Daily News based on this app and responses to consumers inquiries to correct this app in a timely manner. ### 1/5 — Doesn’t work anymore *2023-10-26* I’ve subscribed to The NY Daily News through this app for years. It was great. But now The NY Daily News doesn’t support it any more. They sold this app to a 3rd party. The 3rd party isn’t maintaining the app. The last time it was updated was 3 years ago. The paper doesn’t download anymore. I call and they say they are aware of the situation, but it’s been a week and they haven’t fixed it. It’s too bad because I really love this app. I suspect that they will delete this app soon because it doesn’t pay enough and it’s limited to Apple users only. If they fix it I will upgrade my rating. ### 1/5 — Worthless on OS17 *2023-10-16* I’m a life long reader who’s ready to abandon the newspaper. Ever since I’ve updated to OS 17, the app has been rendered useless. New editions will not download! The download immediately pauses and will never resume. I’ve emailed dozens of times to let them know of the issue and I’ve received zero replies. I’ve called as well and though they seem to be aware of the issue, nothing changes. It’s been over 6 weeks that I haven’t been able to read the newspaper. I’m paid up until February and there’s nothing I can do about it but they will be losing a subscriber! ### 1/5 — The app stopped working after IOS 17 update and the Daily New doesn’t care *2023-10-12* Multi emails to support, email to the new editor with no response from neither. Would you think their be some sort of response from the paper and its developers that it being addressed. Based on the lack of response, it seems that The Daily News and it app’s developers don’t care since that got payments for current subscribers that the users don’t have access to. This to me seems that this is beginning to be a trust issue with their product. I also noticed that some of the recent reviews that I saw before are being deleted. ### 1/5 — IPaper on pause *2023-10-09* This is the first time in the years I have been purchasing this app that an issue has arisen. It is a daily pause for the app, and I am unable to download any new news. I am not sure if the developer is reading the review or if it just does not care about its customers. I guess the users should get together and file a lawsuit against this app for charging its customers without delivering content. Maybe we should make this a newsworthy subject for its competitive counterparts and let them display it on their front page that this app is not working. ### 1/5 — Definitely needs updating *2023-10-08* I’ve had this app for a few years with 6month subscriptions going through just fine until my paper stopped downloading recently after the new iOS 17 update. Had to request a refund from Apple because when you try to reach out to these people NO ONE EVER ANSWERS YOU BACK! Avoid downloading the digital edition. If it doesn’t work they WONT HELP YOU. Only Apple can try and eventually refund you. A waste of time. Definitely NOT how you treat loyal customers… ## Most praised reviews (10 highest-rated) ### 5/5 — They have fixed the issue with downloading new issues *2023-11-27* The new revamped version of the Daily News app with red font and white backgrounds is an excellent update. The old app would not download new issues even though I had an active paid subscription. In this new version, new issues are downloadable. The NEW App Navigation is top notch. It has a NEW ability to read aloud articles that is well appreciated by me. This app is now much better than any other Electronic News Paper subscription I have. My time is limited and valuable, so being able to quickly go through the articles that grab my attention is awesome with this new navigation. The only thing I would like to see improved right now, is the ability to change the default voice of Samantha from reading my articles. Her voice is so annoying. I went into iOS settings and changed all my default speaking voices to a SIRI voice and the app still speaks Samatha’s voice. But this app is still great despite that malfunction. ### 5/5 — Best paper for New York City news *2022-11-09, version 3.9.3* Editorials and commentary help dissect the news, and separate fact from fiction. Nothing has been corrected. ### 5/5 — Great way to read the NY Daily News *2019-11-21, version 3.9.1* The digital edition is a great way to keep reading my favorite newspaper since I moved away from NJ to Florida 3 years ago. Been reading the NY Daily News since I was 16, and that was 64 years ago. The only complaint I have with the digital addition is that I wish you included the comics in the Sunday digital edition.
