### 4/5 — Needs RCL coding update

*2026-05-31*

The app is clean, and I recommend it for its usability and for it being correct in the readings 99% of the time.

But it does have a coding issue/bug. Today is May 31, 2026 as I write this. The readings it gives today under the RCL are those for the minor feast day of the Visitation of Mary. That makes sense as May 31 is that feast day.

BUT! Today’s readings should not be the visitation in the RCL. Because today is Trinity Sunday (which is a movable feast day as it’s always the first Sunday after Pentecost), and Trinity Sunday is a major feast day, the RCL readings in the app are incorrect. It’s not recognizing that the Trinity Sunday date moves and it takes precedence over a minor feast day on a fixed date.

So, get the app, use it, enjoy it! But realize that at the current time, it may get the RCL readings wrong for dates which move.

**Developer response:** Thank you for reporting this. We corrected this along with a couple of other reading issues. We are waiting for the App Store to release the updated version.

### 3/5 — It’s okay

*2025-10-15*

Several typos which makes it feel a bit thrown together

### 3/5 — Bring screen option back

*2024-10-15*

An earlier version allowed the choice for black background with white letters. It was much easier on the eyes. Please bring that back. A white screen with black letters is quite harsh.

### 4/5 — Please update

*2024-06-28*

The 8 week psalter is off by 2 or 3 days. Psalm 22 should always be on a Friday. Psalm 51 and 42/84 are Sunday psalms according to the psalter printed in the BCW Daily Prayer.

### 2/5 — Crash

*2022-12-23, version 3.2*

I really want to keep this app but it crashes constantly

### 2/5 — Won’t open

*2022-11-23, version 3.2*

Opens and immediately closes on my new iPad with the newest iPad iOS update

### 3/5 — Please update

*2022-11-19, version 3.2*

Hello PCUSA, Please update your app!

An explanation why this app is helpful for Christians would also be nice so I can more easily encourage others to get the app.

### 2/5 — Great content, problematic interface

*2022-09-20*

I really appreciate the content and pattern of daily prayer. Am using it now with my congregation. The interface desperately needs some updates — particularly for newer iOS devices. It doesn’t use the full iPhone X screen for example, and that phone is from 2017. Same is true on the iPad Pro 11 from 2018. In Xcode, the developer should see this in the emulator after setting the device to either of these or more recent. Would be great to have full display used. With iOS 14, the date picker becomes invisible when in night mode, which is very challenging — the connection to night mode is far from obvious. I’ve also tried purchasing the Company of New Pastors feature for another year, but it always crashes the app. Been trying this for a couple years, I suspect. For groups using it, it would be nice also to have the book page numbers in the liturgy and the liturgy included somewhere online for the Book of Common Worship. Thanks for the app! The recently added share options are helpful. If you update to the new Book of Common Worship, I hope you’ll keep the 1993 version as an option.

UPDATE: This app is even more desperate for an update now in 2022. Usually when I open the app, none of the readings are accessible as if all are deselected. Once I go into the Settings -> Advanced and toggle one of the entries to off and back to on, everything now shows up as expected. Though, sometimes it disappears a short time later while reading. The app presents a good scripture reading pattern and liturgy based on the 1993 Book of Common Worship; however, the interface is currently very frustrating. Please update; it’s age is showing and doesn’t present our denomination well.

### 3/5 — Really Needs an update!!

*2020-10-12, version 3.2*

Very basic and not especially appealing UI.

Would be nice to be updated to the “new” Book of Common Worship (now four years old!), with more diversity by day, the palm prayers, etc.

Certainly not worth paying for at this point, and the extra charge for the company of pastors (to provide things otherwise available for free) seems silly.

There are many daily prayer apps with better functionality available for free.

### 4/5 — Please update

*2019-01-17, version 2.1*

Please update the confessional readings to use the new Directory for Worship. Thank you!

Also needs the latest translation of Heidelberg Catechism.

### 4/5 — Good- needs more to be great

*2018-10-11*

This is a great starting point for a daily prayer app. I would really like to see some brief commentary on the scripture readings. They drop in on scripture stories with no background or context, and it would be nice to have some brief pastor commentary about the passage you could click on. Also definitely need the ability to highlight and save passages, and it would be nice to have an area to take notes.

### 3/5 — Helpful, needs updating

*2017-06-19, version 2.1*

Great app for devotional reading and prayer. I wish this app had 1) more bible translation choices (I.e., ESV), and 2) the ability to highlight, copy, share to social apps. Other than that, I love it. Thank you! (Please update!)

### 4/5 — GREAT AS A STARTING PLACE FOR DAILY DEVOTIONS

*2015-11-19*

I was looking for an app that is available on the fly as a starting place for daily devotions that would incorporate elements of Scripture and prayer. In a simple and basic way, this app does that. Using readings from the daily lectionary and prayers from the PCUSA Book of Common Worship, it gives different selections for morning, mid-day and evening devotions. It is not technologically slick (offering a choice if Bible translations would be nice) but it does the job. In my typical devotions without the app, I tend to follow a biblical book with a few paragraphs each day followed by my personal prayer notes. This opens the world for me with the variety of selections, some of which have led me to sermons or things to share with others. I have not tried the Company of Pastors add on, as I don't have time to explore that. I have an iPhone 6 and have had no problems in operation.

### 2/5 — Works on iPad. Crashes on launch on iPhone 6 Plus.

*2015-04-06, version 2.1*

Title says it all.

### 4/5 — Great daily lection & prayers

*2015-02-27, version 2.1*

Very much appreciate this. For what I use it for-- daily scripture readings (NRSV), meaningful prayers without wordy jargon-- this app is best around I've seen.

### 4/5 — Great but can't get the in-app purchase to work

*2014-12-12*

I love this app, particularly being able to go through the Lectionary like this. However I can't get the new in-app purchase to work. I was excited for the expanded psalm offerings. Also according to the store description there should be support for multiple languages but I don't see how to do this. I would love if some day I could get this in Chinese.

## Most critical reviews (10 lowest-rated)

### 1/5 — Terrible

*2026-01-25*

Maybe I’m not using the app correctly but I see the same scriptures repeated over and over and over on multiple dates. Very redundant. Not worth the $3. Save your money. This app is terrible!!!

### 1/5 — Crashes a second after opening

*2023-05-29, version 3.2*

App crashes a second after I open it.

### 1/5 — Glitchy

*2022-01-19, version 3.2*

This is one of the glitchiest apps I’ve encountered. If it doesn’t continually return to the opening scripture it randomly shuts down. It really needs an update.

### 1/5 — What happened?

*2020-11-14, version 3.2*

Where has the Gospel gone? It's not showing up on the app.

### 1/5 — Crashes in Xs pro

*2020-05-10, version 3.1*

App won’t open after May 2020 update.

### 1/5 — Has never worked for me

*2017-01-05, version 2.1*

App won't open on iPhone iOS 10

### 1/5 — Crashes on iPhone 6

*2016-10-19, version 2.1*

I had such high hopes for this app. My friend loves it. She uses an iPad. I did not read the reviews as I should have to know it's not compatible with my iPhone. Without an iPad, I can't even open the app.

### 1/5 — Limited

*2016-03-09, version 2.1*

Why is this app limited to 2 year lectionary readings? If it had to be the 2 yr why not at least include 3 yr RCL which is more common.

### 1/5 — Still broke

*2015-01-03, version 2.1*

Recent "fix" did not resolve issues with in-app purchases. Readings, including those from the Company of Pastors, which I paid for and was charged for, do not show up at all. This app is in need of serious work for basic usability, and has been since it was released.

### 1/5 — Crashes on loading...

*2014-11-08, version 1.10*

…useless. Disappointing.

## Most praised reviews (10 highest-rated)

### 5/5 — I like the high contrast white with black letters.

*2024-11-09*

I like the high contrast white with black letters. White on Black is hard to read. White letters fade into the black. God help us with color and font.

### 5/5 — Better than I dreamed

*2020-03-28, version 2.1*

In this particular time of need for connection, I’d started to develop twice-weekly midday prayer services for our congregation. PCUSA was already many steps ahead of me! This app has it all and I’m VERY grateful to God and the app’s developers! Thank you!

### 5/5 — Excellent Easy to Use Guide for Daily Devotional and Prayer

*2018-08-12*

My pastor recommended this app and I have thoroughly enjoyed using it. I usually use the prayers and scripture readings from the morning portion for my morning prayer time. It has been a nice improvement over the much shorter, bare bones, devotionals I had been reading before. I really appreciate how this app gives a good pattern to my prayers as well. I think my favorite part is consistently the collect.

### 5/5 — This app has taught me to pray

*2016-06-12, version 2.1*

I am so happy that this app has taught me to pray.

### 5/5 — Works great for me

*2016-02-17, version 2.1*

I have been using this app for over a year with no problems. Great resource for daily prayer. Use portions or read it all based upon the time you have allotted for prayer and study.

### 5/5 — Easy

*2014-11-11, version 1.10*

Very simple to use, perfect for getting more liturgy in your life!

### 5/5 — Simple and Pure

*2014-08-27*

The app's interface is pretty modest and basic, but that makes it simple to understand and operate, too. I appreciate the font sizing options a lot. Mostly, I am so grateful for the Scripture readings and prayers offered daily, geared for the time of day, full of grace and comfort!! Thank you for making this app accessible on my tablets. It means so much to me, whenever I follow the readings for a day. Blessings!

### 5/5 — Wonderful!

*2013-11-25, version 1.6*

Having this app is the best! Morning, lunch, dinner, and bedtime prayer time!!

### 5/5 — Worth the small price

*2013-11-18, version 1.6*

Simple, does everything advertised. It would be even better if the Sunday/Festival readings were added.

### 5/5 — Excellent prayer resource for Christians

*2013-10-22*

This app walks the user through a daily prayer office with the Presbyterian book of Common Worship. Scripture readings, and psalm readings, and responsive prayers are provided, which vary based on the time of day one is praying. Full scripture passages are provided, so one need not flip back-and-forth between a printed Bible. The app works flawlessly, and is pretty. This is an excellent app, and well worth the price.
