## What is Daily Reflections?

Feeling overwhelmed? Take 5 minutes.

Roots brings you a daily lesson in calm, drawn from 2,500 years of philosophy, distilled for the racing modern mind.

Modern life is loud. Notifications, deadlines, the inner critic that won't shut up. Most apps add to the noise. Roots was built to be the opposite: a small, slow, daily moment with the thinkers who've helped restless minds for centuries.

A NEW LESSON EVERY MORNING

Each day, you receive a 3 to 5 minute lesson, a single idea from a philosopher, written in plain language and built for someone who hasn't read philosophy since high school. No jargon. No 600-page books. Just one idea, one day, one calmer mind.

THE THINKERS YOU'LL MEET

- Marcus Aurelius on coping with anxious thoughts
- Buddha on letting go of what you can't control
- Seneca on dealing with stress
- Lao Tzu on flowing with change
- Plus Socrates, Confucius, Aristotle, Rumi, Zhuangzi, Epicurus, and more

LEARNING PATHS WHEN YOU NEED MORE

When a topic grabs you, follow a curated path: lessons grouped around a theme like inner peace, dealing with criticism, finding meaning, letting go. 5 to 8 lessons per path, at your own rhythm.

WHO ROOTS IS FOR

People who feel mentally overloaded. People curious about philosophy but intimidated by it. People who want a daily practice that grounds them, not another habit tracker that guilts them.

NO STREAKS, NO PRESSURE

We don't punish you for missing a day. No streak counter, no guilt notifications. Roots is a place to come back to, not a chore that competes with your inbox.

WHAT'S INCLUDED

Free: today's lesson, every day, forever. Plus the intro path to philosophy.

Premium: full library access, all thinkers, all paths, all future content. One subscription, no ads ever.

Take 5 minutes today. Your mind will thank you.

*2026-07-04*

This app is truly lovely!!! The lessons are very short and digestible. If you have 0 attention span, you can still use this app!!!

### 4/5 — We need Chinese

*2026-03-31*

It’s happy to see some great Chinese philosophers , but it can be even better to have Chinese language ！Love this application 😋

**Developer response:** Thank you so much for the kind words! We're glad you enjoy the Chinese philosophers in Roots as much as we do. Chinese language support is definitely on our radar, we'd love to make the app accessible to more people. Stay tuned, and thanks for the suggestion

### 5/5 — 很好的哲思软件

*2026-03-31*

希望有单词搜索功能，或者点击单词直接翻译功能，不然看不懂的单词影响理解😂

**Developer response:** Thank you for the wonderful review! Great suggestions, we're planning to add a word search feature, and Chinese language support is on our roadmap. Stay tuned, and thanks for using Roots!

**Developer response:** Thanks for the honest feedback! You're right, the app is still young and growing. New content is added every month: new thinkers, lessons, and/or learning paths. The value will only grow over time. Glad you're already on board, as an early user, you'll be the first to experience it all

### 5/5 — Belle découverte

*2026-01-17*

J’aime bien. Facile a prendre en main, les lessons sont courtes …. J’a fait une petite habitude de la consulter chaque jour. Je recommande…. Ça aide à mettre les choses en perspective

**Developer response:** Merci beaucoup pour ce retour ! Ça me fait très plaisir de savoir que Roots est devenu une petite habitude quotidienne. C'est exactement l'idée, quelques minutes pour prendre du recul et voir les choses autrement. Encore merci

## Version history (last 5 releases)

### 2.14.0 — 2026-08-26

Let nothing disturb you, let nothing frighten you. All things pass.
Patience obtains all things.

A new voice arrives, the third woman among our thinkers, who carried
those words on a handwritten note in her prayer book: Teresa of Ávila.
Ten lessons on the castle of rooms you carry within, on loving deeply
instead of thinking deeply, on finding depth among the pots and pans,
and on watering the garden through its dry seasons.

She kept her calm on a slip of paper. Some calm is small enough to carry.

### 2.13.0 — 2026-08-12

Anxiety is the dizziness of freedom.

A new voice arrives, the first Dane among our thinkers, a man who wrote
his books walking the streets of Copenhagen: Søren Kierkegaard. Ten
lessons on the self we can so quietly lose, on the busyness we hide
inside, on silence as a prescription, and on the eye that stays young
by seeing what’s possible.

The dizziness was never the illness. It’s what an open life feels like.

### 2.12.0 — 2026-07-28

"Two new paths through familiar woods."

Quiet the Racing Mind gathers eight lessons from six traditions, from
Pascal's silent room to Patanjali's stillness, for the mind that will
not stop. The Art of Beginning walks from Seneca to Thoreau, seven
lessons for seasons that feel closed, and the quiet courage to open
them.

The lessons were already here. We laid the stones between them.

### 2.11.0 — 2026-07-15

"I have striven not to laugh at human actions, not to weep at them, nor
to hate them, but to understand them."

A new voice arrives, a lens grinder from Amsterdam who polished ideas
the way he polished glass: Baruch Spinoza. Ten lessons on naming an
emotion until it loosens its grip, on joy as the feeling of becoming
more alive, on hope and fear as secret twins, and on a wisdom that
meditates on life, not on death.

He spent his days grinding lenses. All of it was for seeing clearly.

### 2.10.0 — 2026-07-07

"Yoga is the stilling of the fluctuations of the mind."

A new voice arrives, from the source of yoga and meditation itself:
Patanjali. Ten lessons on quieting a restless mind, on the witness that
watches every thought without being any of them, on contentment practiced
rather than awaited, and on the slow discipline of coming back, again and
again.

He never promised an empty mind. Only a still place beneath the noise.
