For me, the highlights are the community calendar and the reporting. I can find places to go for good food, hiking, biking, music. The local news reporting is good information on what it covers. Now for the lowlights: AP news stories are predictably slanted Left, no pretense of standard reporting. The columnists are nearly all Washington-Post Lefty. I pay a lot of money to be told how bad the Right is. I find “The Daily Sentinel” to have reasonable coverage of news, a worthwhile mix of local, state, national, and international stories. Editorial positions are thoughtful and informative; even the ones with which I don’t concur provoke my thinking. In my judgment, this paper exemplifies highly defensible ethics of professional journalism as presented in the “Code of Ethics of the Society of Professional Journalists.” “The Daily Sentinel” is, in my opinion, an excellent source for news and opinion for our community. ### 5/5 — Fair, Reasonable and Accurate Reporting *2024-05-17* I have appreciated The Daily Sentinel’s drive to remain a viable news organization on the Western Slope. I liked looking around for it if it wasn’t on the driveway: in a bush, maybe under the car, kinda fun! So it took a little time for me to get used to my online newspaper. Going online was forced on me because of a carrier shortage. I thought I’d switch back later. But after some time I realized an online newspaper was alright. I am an online Daily Sentinel customer. Gives me a login screen that looks like a grade school coder designed it but won’t let me in when I enter my UN and PW. I can get in using a browser but the app has suddenly become useless. ### 1/5 — Banner ads *2021-10-04, version 3.3.14* Why are there banner ads? First, I already pay for this subscription and the printed ads in the paper are enough. I shouldn’t have to see banner ads as well. Secondly, the banner ads cover up the headlines of each article as I read it. I’ve brought it to the Sentinel’s attention but so far nothing has changed. ### 1/5 — Can't login *2019-10-08, version 2.9.42* I subscribed to the electronic version of daily Sentinel and was excited when I found out there was an app also. Well that's just as far as it goes though because this stupid app won't let anybody login!!!! ### 1/5 — Better stick to print *2018-08-22, version 2.7.20* Downloaded this app when they went to electronic version on Monday & Tuesdays. Worked the first time out but this week doesn’t work at all. It prompts for a user name & pw but no way to set them up. Won’t even load the “video tutorial”. Terrible app. Better fix it, they need all the subscribers they can get. ### 1/5 — Online stinks *2018-08-20, version 2.7.20* I have more problems with this app than I do with all of my other apps combined and they all involve logging in. It never likes my email and/or password and when I try to reset the password it won’t respond. Then there is the l-o-n-g wait try to speak to a live person. ### 2/5 — Good or Bad? *2017-11-11* I’ve always felt the Sentinal writers were very biased. I.E. back in the early 80s when they published an article about how GJ was planning to allow a new strip Club bar and/or gay club, I was upset. Not about the article but that the city would even consider such trash in a place to which I had recently moved. So I decided to write a letter to the Editor which stated, in a nutshell, that I was insensced that GJ could even consider such filth, but that it really did not matter much what I thought, but only what God thought. I posted several Scriptures in opposition to such lewd activities and abominations. I sent it to the Sentinel. When published, I was VERY upset. They did publish my article; however they took out all my Scripture references and twisted what I had said. Upset I phoned the Grand Junction Daily Sentinel and demanded to speak with the editor, who told me that as the publishers of the paper they had the “right” to publish anything they wanted and there was “nothing” I could do about it. Well, you can imagine how upset I was. I swore I would never send in another letter to the editor, and I have not. I even canceled it foe awhile, and if it weren’t for the free coupons offered in Sunday papers and obituaries, I would have never spent another “red” cent on that leftist paper. However, I played the little games they offered back then (where they hired people to call and bug you every mo or so soliciting you to order their paper). I would get a really good rate if I would cancel for a mo or 2 then they would have offers do low I couldn’t refuse. Like I said, other than their most biased articles, they did have some good articles occasionally and the funny papers and community events and obituaries written by others. Oh yeh, obituaries reminds me of the highway robbery they charge when it comes to trying to honor a loved one. I think my hubby and I spent about $180 for my mother-in-law’s obituary. Delta paper was FREE. GO Delta (my Alma Mater). You see, in Delta most folks still care about “the little things” like love and family and friends. We stick together. God bless and have a great day.
