## What is DailyTrace?

DailyTrace is a time journal for seeing where your day goes.

Start an activity with one tap. Switch when your day changes, then stop when you are done. DailyTrace turns those records into a clear timeline and practical reviews of your week, month, and past 365 days.

DailyTrace records what you choose to track. It does not score your productivity, fill gaps with guesses, or turn your day into a task list.

RECORD YOUR DAY

Start, stop, and switch activities from a simple daily screen. Add past records, correct times, change activities, or write a note when you need more context.

KEEP THE TIMER CLOSE

Use Home Screen widgets to start activities and check the current timer. Live Activities and the Dynamic Island show what is running and open the current record directly.

USE APPLE WATCH

Start and stop activities from your wrist. While recording, a full-screen timer keeps the current activity easy to read, with switching on a separate page.

LOOK BACK

Review each day on a 24-hour timeline. Weekly charts show how activities filled each day. Month and year heatmaps make differences between recorded days easier to see.

MAKE IT YOURS

Create activities with your own names and choose from a clear 32-color palette. DailyTrace warns you about duplicate names and keeps edits within valid time ranges.

SHARE A REVIEW

Use one preview to create day, week, month, year, or summary images. Save the result to Photos or open the system share sheet.

EDIT WITHOUT WORRY

If you delete a completed record by mistake, use Undo before the message disappears.

LOCAL BY DEFAULT

DailyTrace does not require an account. Activities, notes, and time records stay on your device. You can export a CSV copy for safekeeping.

DailyTrace supports dark mode, VoiceOver, Home Screen and Lock Screen widgets, Live Activities, the Dynamic Island, and Apple Watch.

## Version history (last 5 releases)

### 1.9.0 — 2026-08-02

DailyTrace 1.9 updates statistics and shared summaries.

New:

- Week, month, and past 365 days statistics now include an overview of total recorded time, daily average, days recorded, and the single-day peak.
- Month statistics and month shares now include Focus Flow, showing how each activity's share of time changes from day to day.

Improved:

- Week, month, and past 365 days views and their shared summaries now use the same metrics in the same order.
- Reduced grid-line contrast in Dark Mode week charts and made the current-day bar outline thinner.
- Revised Simplified Chinese copy and added Taiwan-specific Traditional Chinese wording for the interface and accessibility descriptions.

Fixed:

- Fixed share previews showing the current period instead of the week or month being viewed.
- Fixed empty months and past 365 days ranges replacing the date grid with an empty state, and restored backgrounds for future date cells in the month view.
- Fixed Live Activities briefly retaining the previous timer after switching activities.

### 1.8.0 — 2026-07-28

After 38 days, 503 records, and 343.5 hours, I found myself asking different questions of my time. Not only how much time went to coding, French, workouts, or reading, but how those activities were lived: Were the sessions usually brief or sustained? When did they return? What tended to happen just before or after them?

DailyTrace 1.8 makes those questions part of Activity Details. You can now see the balance of short, medium, and long sessions, the times of day an activity commonly appears, and the activities that most often surround it. In my own records, that reveals things a total cannot: French flowed into coding 24 times, while workouts and reading passed the day back and forth 40 times.

The act of recording has changed too. Time in progress now looks deliberately unfinished—quietly forming on the timeline and settling only when the timer stops. Temporary prompts feel lighter, and the note reminder can be disabled when you would rather leave a finished record alone. The interface remains recognizably DailyTrace: the same colors, typography, icons, and direct way of starting and stopping.

Everything included in 1.8:

New:

- Activity Details now groups recording lengths as short, medium, or long.
- Activity Details now shows common recording times.
- Activity Details now shows activities typically recorded immediately before or after the selected activity.
- Added a setting to turn off the note reminder shown after stopping a timer.
- Month and year calendars use block size as well as color when Differentiate Without Color is enabled.
- VoiceOver can read summaries and individual items in statistics charts.
- VoiceOver can read the main content of share previews.
- Added Preparing and Saved status messages when sharing or saving images.

Improved:

- Past Year now preserves activity changes day by day.
- Week and month comparisons now show both date ranges.
- When Photos access is off, the save alert can open Settings.

- Widgets, Apple Watch, and Smart Stack show idle, recording, and unavailable states more clearly.
- Improved share poster text, long activity names, and date ranges that cross years.
- Refined the recording experience while keeping DailyTrace's familiar layout, colors, typography, and icons.
- Live records now feel open while time is accumulating and settle naturally when stopped.
- Current dates and periods use clear closed outlines, while future and missing data remain neutral.
- Short-lived prompts use quieter materials and motion while respecting existing haptic controls.

Fixed:

- Fixed an incorrect unsaved warning after changing a record's date.
- Fixed share posters changing to an earlier period when Stats was showing an earlier week or month.

### 1.6.0 — 2026-07-17

“Like as the waves make towards the pebbled shore,
So do our minutes hasten to their end.”
— William Shakespeare, Sonnet 60

DailyTrace 1.6.0 makes it easier to add context after you finish recording.

- After you stop a note-free record from Home, a shortcut to its note appears briefly.
- Notes now have a 50-character limit and show the count as you type.
- Record and activity forms give clearer feedback for invalid fields and unsaved changes. Moving between fields is also more predictable.
- Weekly and monthly stats now compare the current period with the previous one.
- Titles are now centered on secondary screens. Controls and activity details have clearer spacing and contrast.
- We revised interface text and secondary-screen navigation in all four supported languages, including Apple Watch and widgets.
- This release also fixes issues affecting local data and existing Apple system features.

### 1.5.0 — 2026-07-14
