My daughter was playing around with Daisy and making the dinosaur do all kinds of things. It made her hungry to learn more. She was only disappointed there were not more options for tricks and it is more of an intro to programming than something that can challenge her long-term. I am taking software engineering courses and although this doesn't expose kids to much language important for programming, it lays the foundation and visually reinforces what the program is doing when tested. ### 4/5 — A great introduction to programming! *2012-10-21, version 1.2* Daisy the dinosaur is a great introduction to programming for 5-8 year olds. My 7 year old picked it up very quickly. I'd really like to see this app developed further. My suggestions for improvements: - separate sections for event vs procedural code - increase the number of things Daisy can do (pick up, drop objects, wave etc.) - more things to interact with - more challenges - another 20 or so would be good! - scrollbar on code and command windows I love that the app is free and would pay £2 for another 30 challenges over the suggested 20 free ones. Here are some requests for improvement: - A lot more challenges. Current challenge is a great intro but very limited. - More commands - Ability to place objects in free play mode to give user a goal - Music and sound effects (unfortunately, silence=boredom in games) Thanks for making this and releasing it for free! ### 4/5 — Great idea but limited *2012-03-01* I loved Logo back in 80s and Daisy is a very good idea for young kids but there are too few options and I don't see a way to save your programs. In free play mode I would like to be able to repeat a different number of times instead of just 5 and it would be nice to add more objects so Daisy can jump to touch a star for example. Please update and I would be happy to pay more and give 5 stars. ### 3/5 — Probably just me *2012-02-24* I clicked the daisy support and it just takes me to the front webpage. I can't find an email or anything to contact the developers. I would like to contact them to get help for the issues I write below. The challenge mode works well and is a good way for kids to learn. I downloaded this on 4 different iPads. My plan was to use this to teach following directions. For example, "Make daisy 1)Jump five times using one jump, spin, and walk backward- GO" I have many students with following 3 step directions as their goal and I had high hopes for Daisy. However, in freeplay mode I could never get the commands to move up. The last one you can see is turn and the ones below you can't see (grow, shrink, spin) and I could not find a way for those to scroll and be accessible. I also had the entire app "move" up and down when you touch the screen. Anyway, the challenge mode was a lot of fun for the goal: following directions. I had the kids read it and figure it out. It was really challenging for them- but fun! I would like the freeplay mode to work for me though. It is a great idea, just "buggy". Or at least it was for me. ### 4/5 — Neat app *2012-02-19* This app really does teach the basics of computer programming, which is really cool, and it is simple enough for very young kids, BUT...kids have to be able to read well to learn to play it. It would be nice if the app had an option to read the instructions to you, so younger kids could learn it independently. The character, Daisy Dinosaur, seems to be for very young kids, and the instructions are certainly simple enough for them, if only they didn't have to deal with the frustration of using early reading skills to stumble over the words. I think Daisy is a bit too cutesy for older kids, but they would feel more confident in reading the instructions. If parents don't mind reading the instructions though, the commands are easy to read for beginning readers, and kids as young as 5 or 6 could play it once they learn how. ### 3/5 — It's a Good Start *2011-12-27* Fun concept and fun illustrations. The drag-and-drop interface is very hard to use. Wanted to love this app, but Scratch Jr. is much better. The app didn't load properly on the latest iOS running on iPad Air 2. The screen was stuck in portrait mode so only can see half the screen (orientation lock was not on). Liked the idea behind the challenges, but for whatever reason the challenges stopped after "when". Not worth the hassle IMHO. Scratch Jr. is much easier to use and has much more features--5 year old was creating own stories and animations after one weekend with Scratch Jr. ### 2/5 — Broken in iOS 10 *2016-10-17, version 1.2* Yep, appears to be broken in iOS 10. I've spoken to the developers via Twitter and they say that the app is no longer being developed. Probably should be pulled from the App Store then!! ### 3/5 — My honest review *2020-11-11* Very dumb game there are no challenges after all everything is easy you can already tell how this is for kids five and under 🙄 honestly I recommend the other game that you made called Hopscotch or perhaps this is for kids not my age perhaps but not gonna lie I gave 3 stars because it is a great game for little kids who are learning to code but I seriously it is dumb 😐 but it brings back memories from when I was a little kid ### 3/5 — Easy Easy Esay *2019-11-30* It's very easy and there's no new challenges. Super fun and learning the basics of coding is especially nice! However it is a limited app that really only services the basics.
