## What is Damascus?

Prayer isn't a to-do list. It's a relationship... "the living relationship of the children of God with their Father" (CCC 2565).

The Damascus App is built to help you live it: every day, with your people, everywhere your phone already is.

Praying every day is hard. Damascus makes the rhythm stick — and keeps it social, so you're never doing it alone. Today's Mass readings, the saint of the day, the rosary, and your prayer journal come together in one guided flow you build yourself: the Prayer Dare. Open the app, pray the day, mark it done, watch your streak grow.

WHAT'S INSIDE
• Prayer Dare — a modular daily prayer flow you build yourself. Mass readings, antiphons, the rosary, Divine Mercy Chaplet, the Angelus, the saint of the day, reflections, intentions, silent timers, and your own custom prayers. Reorder, hide, or add anything in seconds.
• Color Wars & community — weekly team leaderboards, friend invites, and contact matching so you pray alongside the people you actually know. Faith is a team sport.
• Scripture Before Scrolling — let prayer be the key that unlocks your phone. Choose the apps that distract you and earn them back with prayer. Every other screen-time app just blocks you; Damascus leads you somewhere that matters.
• Today's Mass readings — full First Reading, Psalm, Second Reading, acclamation, and Gospel, sourced daily. Highlight a verse, attach a note, find it again in My Highlights. Synced everywhere you sign in.
• Saint of the day — a beautiful portrait, a monologue, and their patronage, in a fullscreen view you can zoom and share.
• Pray everywhere — Home Screen and Lock Screen widgets, Control Center, Apple Watch, and CarPlay. Today's Gospel on your wrist, today's saint on your screen, today's prayer on your drive. Built natively for Apple, so a moment with God is always one glance away.
• Streaks, quests & achievements — a forgiving streak that doesn't punish you for a hard day, with badges for the rhythm you actually keep.
• Prayer journal — a place for what you heard in prayer today, synced across devices.
• Events & ticketing — registration, schedules, and tickets for Damascus events in person.

ABOUT DAMASCUS
The Damascus App is built by the team behind the Damascus Missionary Movement, whose summer camps and retreats have formed young Catholics for over two decades. The app brings that same daily rhythm and adventurous spirit home, so the encounter doesn't end when camp does. (Fittingly, the Catechism's own definition of prayer comes from St. John Damascene.)

Live the adventure. Daily.

### 4/5 — Damascus

*2026-09-04*

This app is a app that helps me prioritize prayer, but the con of this app is that I do not know how to do certain stuff, I wish there was a help button or something, but I LOVE this app, and have gotten a lot of my friends to also join the app and prioritize prayer as well!

### 5/5 — Damascus

*2026-08-25*

Amazing app I went to the summer camp this past summer and I plan to go back I literally love and adore my 2nd counselor and she really helped me open up to receive what the lord had for me that week and this app just helps me cope with not being at the camp and it helps me keep up the praying daily and reading scripture and understanding it . I do wish you were able to connect with your counselor through the app that’s all

### 5/5 — Damascus App

*2026-08-08*

This app is amazing for being able to pray and rad the bible with friends, it has so many options for different Christian books and videos. The highlighting could be better though. Would definitely recommend for anyone trying to grow their faith in the Lord

### 4/5 — Nice

*2026-08-02*

I’ve gone 5 years to the summer retreat. Awesome that they have this new app. Cool new features, a LOT of content. For some reason st pio of pietrelcina isn’t on their saint data base. But one big problem: very buggy. Now it is a new app probably on beta but easy fixes is what it seems. Because it basically has every single Catholic Church document, it’s a hefty app. Ones I try to start open for say something from jp2 it goes haywire because it thinks it needs to load everything in the app to use one document. Like this is the hottest my phone has ever been. The screen kinda hurts.

**Developer response:** We hear your feedback and v2.0 of the app greatly improves the loading experience! Especially with the church documents! Also St. Pio of Pietrelcina is in the app, his name is just St. Pius of Pietrelcina which is what is listed on the official church calendar for his feast day September 23rd. This is confusing though so we're going to add a smarter search to the app to find saints under their many different names!

### 4/5 — Highlighting 🫩🫩

*2026-08-01*

The app is amazing, no doubt. It really helps me pray. The only thing that was kinda upsetting is that the highlighting is all wonky. You’ll highlight one sentence, and it highlights the line underneath. Aside from that, I would totally recommend it!

**Developer response:** We fixed this in version 2.0. Give it an update and check it out!

### 5/5 — Five stars

*2026-07-27*

This is a great app. This has helped me grow in faith. Usually after camp I stop praying but this helped me continue. The app gives you a motivation of points too. I love this app and will continue using it. I love how you can add friends. Thank you Damascus. But I want to be able to add the novena I am prayer to Home Screen to help and send notifications to me. It will not let me add it to my Home Screen .

**Developer response:** This is such a great idea about the novenas on the Home Screen! It will be added in the next update. Keep the great feedback coming!

### 5/5 — So amazing

*2026-07-21*

It makes daily prayer so easy! And you get to pray alongside hundreds of other people who help keep you accountable by reminding you to pray. I love Damascus so much and this app is incredible ❤️ the only thing that disappointed me, is that all of my friends with androids cant get it :(

### 5/5 — Colors

*2026-07-20*

This app is awesome! My prayer life became way better.

But a few weeks ago, I went on to keep up with up my prayer streak and it said that I was red. But I never selected a team because I have never been to Damascus summer camp yet. Then I accidentally changed it to yellow.
I told my brothers that it changed it to red for me and they said, that might be what ur color will be and that’s the best surprise!
So does any one know how to not have a color?

**Developer response:** In the earlier versions of the app, colors were auto assigned to people but the recent versions of the app, we've stopped doing that. If you want to be unassigned from a color, please reach out to it@damascus.net and we can take care of that for you!

### 5/5 — Very good.

*2026-07-15*

This app has kept me closer to god then I could dream of by myself. A must-have.

### 5/5 — IT IS THE BEST

*2026-07-14*

I can keep in touch with my small group and learn to pray everyday!!!!!

## Version history (last 5 releases)

### 2.2 — 2026-09-07

Audio in Damascus+
Some talks were only ever recorded as audio. Those now play as audio, with their own artwork, lock-screen and CarPlay controls, and your place kept when you close the app.

A Lighter App, a Deeper Library
Damascus installs at a fraction of its old size. The long works - the Church Fathers, Trent, the Roman Catechism - download only when you open them.

Two Retreats You Can Start Today
The Spiritual Exercises as a thirty-day retreat in daily life, and the thirty-three days before Total Consecration, laid out a day at a time alongside your novenas.

Paper Pages
Cream and Sepia read like real paper now, in the Bible and every resource reader. The Journal reads like a journal too - newest at the bottom, and two pages side by side on a sideways iPad.

Your Prayer, in Numbers
A new Stats page shows which books you've read most, the hours you actually pray, and how your sacraments have added up.

### 2.1 — 2026-08-24

The Rosary, Guided

Pray the Rosary right on your routine card, mystery by mystery, decade by decade, with the words in front of you. Your Apple Watch follows the same script, so you can start on one and finish on the other.

The Catechism, a Little at a Time

A 56-day walk through the Catechism's In Brief summaries joins your Daily Routine. Short enough to actually read. We also corrected around six hundred scanning errors across the text.

Your Notes, Ready to Travel

Your journal has always been end-to-end encrypted, which meant only your own iPhone could read it. Now you can set a notes passphrase in Settings to bring your entries to future devices, and your first journal entry offers a one-time recovery code in case you ever forget the passphrase. We still can't read a word of your notes.

Your Prayer, on Your Wrist

The Prayer Dare, your Nightly Examen, the day's readings, and the Rosary each have their own page on the watch now, in your theme color. The daily reflection plays on the wrist, the complications were redesigned, and the prayer timer stays in step with your phone.

Adoration, Logged

Adoration now records alongside Mass and confession, with a Control Center button for the walk in. "I Prayed Today" is back as a routine option for the days your prayer didn't happen inside the app.

Novenas on the Home Screen

A widget keeps the novena you're praying, or the next one starting, where you'll see it. Featured novenas take turns instead of crowding in together, and Popular and Featured are labeled.

A Prayer Library of Its Own

The prayers you reach for most now have their own home in Catholic Resources, searchable and separate from everything else.

Saints by the Names You Use

Search finds saints the way people actually refer to them, not only by their formal entry.

Notifications Worth Keeping

Pick exactly which reminders arrive: morning prayer, the Examen, confession, novenas, friends, new music and events. The nightly Examen nudge is on from the start, and milestones you hit are saved to your mailbox instead of vanishing.

A Journal That Locks

Your written prayer stays yours.

Polish & Fixes

Damascus+ videos hold their place through scrubbing and app switches. Album art keeps up when Spotify moves past the album you started. A prayer that ends after midnight counts toward the day you actually prayed. Highlights use one marker ink everywhere, the Angelus rings when it should, and streaks count correctly in every language.

### 2.0 — 2026-08-02

Damascus 2.0 is the biggest update we've shipped. Prayer got a front door, the home screen got rebuilt around your day, and a lot of small annoyances quietly disappeared.

The Prayer Dare - A guided daily prayer that takes you from "I should pray" to actually praying, in about five minutes. Scripture, a moment of quiet, and a reflection you can keep.

A Brand-New Home - Your day at a glance: the dare, the nightly examen, today's saint, your streak, and your routine — all on one screen that finally knows what time it is.

The Nightly Examen - Five minutes to look back before you sleep. Finish it and your day is claimed, with no extra taps.

A Library of Novenas - Browse what's coming, subscribe to the ones you want, and get a nudge when day one arrives. Miss a day and you can catch up rather than start over.

Saints, Full Screen - Today's saint, told properly, with art that fills the screen instead of hiding in a thumbnail.

A Routine That Fits You - Build your daily routine out of the pieces you actually use — readings, rosary, silent prayer, reflection — and check them off as you go.

Make It Your Own - Themes, accents, and reading styles that carry across the app, your widgets, and your watch. New liturgical colour options follow the season, in the vestment tones you'd actually see at Mass.

Made for iPad - Home and More now run in two columns on iPad, so the extra room is doing something useful.

Notifications, Front and Center - One place for everything the app wants to tell you, and a mailbox you can clear in a single tap.

Keeping Your Streak Honest - Streak freezes for the days life gets in the way, and more than one way to claim a day when the timer isn't the right fit.

Polish & Fixes - A much smoother Bible reader, faster cold starts, better offline behaviour, sharper widgets, and a long list of small fixes you'll never notice — which is rather the point.

### 1.3 — 2026-07-16

Damascus 1.3 makes the app yours — and takes you deeper into the faith than ever.

Make Damascus Yours
Choose your accent color, pick a light or dark look, set the fonts you like best, dial in the text size that's easiest to read, and even pick how your highlights look. Your style carries all the way through to your home-screen widgets and Apple Watch.

Ask Damascus
Have a question about the faith? Ask in plain words and get a grounded answer that always points you back to the Catechism, the saints, and Scripture.

Go Deeper on Any Verse
Tap a passage to see what the Catechism, the Church Fathers, St. Thomas Aquinas, and the Councils have to say about it — Church teaching, right where you're reading.

The Fine Print, Included
Scripture now reads the way it was printed — real paragraphs and poetry — with the translators' footnotes and cross-references a tap away.

Eucharistic Miracles
Explore a catalog of Church-approved Eucharistic miracles on a world map, with a new one waiting in your Prayer Dare each day. It all works offline.

Your Bible Remembers You
Your reading history and bookmarks now follow your account across devices and survive a reinstall.

A Little Sparkle on Special Days
Solemnities, feasts, and even your birthday get a gentle celebration behind your Home cards.

And a lot of polish: daily readings now work offline for two weeks, friend suggestions got smarter, cold starts hold up on shaky networks, App Time Limits are steadier, and we fixed a long list of smaller things.

### 1.2.1 — 2026-07-04

Damascus is now made for iPad - full-width reading and media, roomier Friends and Plus, and a full-screen Settings instead of a cramped sheet.

Also in this update:
• Damascus+ members find hand-picked videos right on the Home tab, next to where you left off watching.
• Easier to find your people: add friends by invite code or by name, discover others from your camp week, and see the friends you have in common. Tap a name to open their profile, or swipe to remove.
• Logged the wrong Mass, Confession, or Mission Moment? Just tap the entry to fix it.
• Clearer VoiceOver on media, the calendar, and the leaderboard, plus Reduce Motion honored in more places.
• Steadier launches, a fixed Settings gear, music that resumes after in-app audio, faster loading, smoother onboarding, and a long list of smaller fixes.
