Dāna is a quiet, ceremonial app for the daily practice of giving (布施 / dāna). It does not move money. The act of giving — to a temple, a person, a charity — happens in the world, with your hands. The app is the small ritual around it. A daily pledge. Choose an amount and a category — life release, sangha offering, flower offering, meal offering, tsok offering, child sponsorship, ORBIS, stray animals, elderly living alone, or a general dāna pledge. You can hold up to ten active pledges at once. Confirm with intention. When you've given, open Dāna and confirm. A small Buddha figure offers a blessing. Merit accumulates by distinct calendar days, not by frequency. Companions appear over time. Your practice begins with a teacher in the living lineage. As it deepens — every 21 days — Guanyin, Green Tārā, Mañjuśrī, Vajrasattva, and Padmasambhava are invited to walk alongside, with Śākyamuni Buddha as the culminating figure. Once invited, a companion stays. There is no streak, no leaderboard, no shame. Honor system, always. No verification. No tracking. No analytics. No subscriptions. Your practice record stays on your device, optionally synced via your private iCloud account. Dāna has always let you choose the language it speaks — in Profile, under Preferences. Until now, a number of places did not listen. The days counted beneath the rings in your Merit Record, the summary of your practice, the day your sponsorship began: each of these kept to the language of your device rather than the one you had chosen. They follow your choice now. Your reminders had the same habit. The daily reminder, and the reminders you set on your personal dates, had been arriving in English for everyone, whatever language the app was showing. They now arrive in your own. Personal dates can also be edited. Until this version a date could only be added or removed, so a small slip in a label meant taking the entry away and setting it down again. Now you tap a date to open it: its label, its date, the way it repeats, and its reminder are all yours to adjust. Background music, when you had it playing, could fall silent after a blessing and stay quiet for the rest of your time in the app. It returns on its own now. And when your practice is restored — from iCloud, or from an exported file — a personal date now keeps the way it returns: every year, one time, or on the same day of each month. Dates that fall only once, and dates that count their anniversaries, keep their year as well. If you restored before this version, please check that your personal dates still repeat as you intended. From here on they are kept faithfully, but a setting already lost cannot return on its own — set it once more, and it will hold. Thank you for practicing with Dāna. ### 1.1.0 — 2026-07-19 A small update: the moment of blessing shines a little brighter, and the days you keep are held a little more closely. When a blessing arrives, four small golden symbols now bloom in the corners of the screen, shining gentle sparks of light — sometimes turning, swelling, or bursting into a brief shower of sparkles — before fading quietly away. The ceremony is yours to shape. In Settings, choose how long the radiance lasts, from a brief five seconds to a full minute. And if you wish, show its remaining time — as a soft number, or as a small clock face that sweeps like a wound timer. Both stay off unless you turn them on. With Reduce Motion, the symbols simply fade in and out, still and quiet. A personal date may now return every year, fall only once, or come back on the same day of every month. A yearly date can also count its anniversaries from the year it began — so a wedding shows the years since, and a child born that year shows their age. Four more verses join Selected Verses from the Dhammapada in the Library, chosen for their closeness to giving: that good gathers little by little, and that the wise take joy in it. Dāna is also easier to use with VoiceOver and with larger text throughout. Thank you for practicing with Dāna. ### 1.0.1 — 2026-07-15 A quiet first update, with small refinements to keep your practice smooth. Your chosen companion now stays with you. If you had invited a companion other than the first one and noticed it returning to the default, that is fixed — open the Companions gallery, choose your companion once more, and it will remain. On iPad, setting an amount is gentler: the mala wheel settles on the bead you choose the first time, and the custom-amount keypad now fills the larger screen. A few other quiet refinements throughout.
