The app has full support for all the course's elements, so it can make for surprisingly good self-study material provided you can practise active speaking elsewhere. It is by far more effective than any gamified platform like Duolingo. ### 4/5 — Great app but could use a better UI *2024-09-18, version 1.3.2* Title says it all. Vocabulary and grammar are provided in bite-size pieces in logical, useful order. I’ve experimented with various mandarin self-teaching tools and this is the best. So wonderful. But when I use it with ipad, there is the most bothersome problem: i can not use it together with the other note app. It can not be turned to half size in order to use note app together. I think it is very important to use it better. Could you please consider to add the function for students? The grammar explanations are clear, the practices are good. I am studying through MTC but this has enough material for self guided study. If you have already bought the books in physical format, you shouldn’t be forced to pay again (full price!!!) for each book to use the app. VERY DISAPPOINTING ### 1/5 — Not sure it is for non Asian speaker *2023-09-11* There were no English to the meaning of the characters in writing except for the dialogue is being read. On the other hand, the price is too expensive. I want you to create data that is well developed. I'm disappointed I'm frustrated because this app have not bug reports or functions.... ### 2/5 — Textbook App Errors *2025-10-02, version 1.3.2* This textbook application has too many critical errors. 1. Hanzi Discrepancies: Many Hanzi characters in the app are incorrect compared to the physical textbook. 2. Missing Practice Problems: Some grammar practice questions are missing. For example, the Measure Words practice questions for Unit 1-4 are completely absent. Having to cross-reference every single point with the paper textbook because of these issues is extremely frustrating. But the books are expensive. One book is broken down into three at $12.99 each. Definitely need some translations in the practice section. I have no idea what I’m listening to! ### 3/5 — Great features but expensive and a little messy *2019-03-11, version 1.2.1* Some great features, the readings sounded natural, useful to have vocab and grammar you can click on, and I especially liked the tone practice. On the downside, I wish there was a direct translation of the dialogue that was easily accessible or directly in the text. Seems weird that there isn’t. Also, lessons are super short and there are only 5 lessons in a bundle and several bundles. The navigation and user interface is excellent. The curriculum is very very good. The audio for each chapter is acted out in a clear and lively manner. This course is very excellent but the option to have a more natural script font would be helpful! Also on my wishlist is a flashcard feature.
