The SP soundtrack is fantastic!! The game needs MFI iOS Controller support! It also needs a screen orientation feature so it auto adjusts to how you hold your idevice. I want to give 5 stars here but these 2 features missing, hold it back. ### 4/5 — Needs iPhone 6 Support *2015-12-31, version 1.1.0* Love this game but definitely needs full screen resolution support for modern phones. Lack of full screen support for iPhone 6 makes a black border around the game. Wouldn't be so bad but if you touch the black area the game doesn't pickup your movement. Also you can't change the orientation by flipping the phone. Speaker side is stuck on your left hand :( Easily a 5 star game if Taito fixes these problems. Please add iPhone 6 support! Thanks. ### 4/5 — Excellent SHMUP *2015-02-23, version 1.1.0* This is a terrific example of the genre. The whole experience is well composed, including gameplay, visual design, and the excellent music typical of Darius games. It does need to be updated to the iPhone 6+ resolution though. On screen buttons are missing. You can still play through the game, but without burst shots or a pause button. ### 4/5 — Good shooter, better on 5G devices *2013-05-27, version 1.1.0* Overall it's a good game esp. if you're a Darius series fan, it could stand to be optimized for 5G devices but it plays well on my 4G Touch except for crashing when I beat the game. At least on my 5G Touch there's no more crashing. Controls take a little getting used to since there's no pad/stick, only by moving your finger. Also a little pricey but I think it's worth it, but wait and try to catch a sale before downloading it. ### 3/5 — Looks Cool *2013-05-08, version 1.1.0* I wanted, badly, to be able to write a good review for this game since I spent $12 on it. Graphically it is stunning......gameplay can be lame at times. When the bosses show up they are too big. It feels very clostraphobic. It is never very clear when your ship's damage will end up killing you. Bought Danmaku Unlimited 2 for $2 on sale. While I'll give graphics to Dariusburst replability goes to Danmaku Unlimited 2. The music is silly. As great as the boss ships look, the other ships are really weak. Like the previous reviewer said I would be completely satisfied if I had paid maybe $4, but at $12 I overpaid. ### 3/5 — Not that great *2013-02-16, version 1.1.0* I remember playing this game all the time as a kid and I remember that it lasted a lot longer :/ game is short and at least the beginning is not challenging at all ... Not sure if its supposed to be or not . Fast fluid combat with great musical backdrops, I would try to get for 5 dollars or less, 11 is just a bit much. Just please change it so that your left hand doesn't muffle the sound by enabling screen rotation. ### 5/5 — Just the right difficulty level *2012-09-08, version 1.0.1* I'm not super familiar with the older Darius games, but I've played a bunch of other shooters. Dariusburst reminds me a lot of R-type and other side-scrolling shooters in that the screen never feels cluttered with bullets and it feels like each level throws fun new mechanics at you that you have to figure out. After 2-3 games to figure out the bosses' patterns it should be possible to clear easy mode without using a continue, which is a lot of fun and a good introduction to the different burst mechanics. Switch the game to hard mode, though, and the challenge level goes right up. The game never feels unbeatable though. The art is also gorgeous. All of the bosses look amazing and the level backgrounds are well-designed. Zuntata as usual provides a soundtrack that's a cut above the norm (though I prefer their RayStorm music). I'm really glad Taito is making games for iOS now; this game is an asset to the platform. ## Most critical reviews (10 lowest-rated) ### 1/5 — Dariusburst *2023-11-08* Just crashes… Hoping this adds to the chorus and maybe keeps someone from throwing their money away on a game that has clearly been abandoned by the developers but kept live in the store (for the dense ones in the back.. this is a super crappy practice). ### 1/5 — Stay away *2023-02-05* Unplayable on newer devices. The game crashes after 1, 2, 3 or however many levels into it.....the game decides when it wants to shoot back to my home screen restarting the game each time. Please fix. Super disapointed, as Darius is one of my all-time fave shoot’em-ups and i actually used that fact to try and take a shot at purchasing an app (which again i don’t do) just to have one of my favorite franchises affirm my fears. Thanks a lot. 2018Dec30 Sun 7:59pm ### 2/5 — Crashes just after End Zone on SP mode. *2012-02-09, version 1.0.0* I've beaten this game twice, just for the app to crash just after the score screen when you beat the final boss. Then, I reopen the app, just to find out that... My score wasn't saved. Please make more. ### 5/5 — Great Darius! *2016-06-22, version 1.1.2* I used to play Darius in the arcade a very long time ago and after much practice my friend and I finally beat the big bad guy. This rendition of the game is very fun to play and plays well on my iPad. They were thoughtful about the controls and different gameplay issues and put it all together to create a great arcade game for the iPad that definitely reminds me of the original.
