### 4/5 — No more “beam of light”

*2026-06-15, version 6.1.0*

It’s not perfect but it definitely works at its core function of making bright websites subdued. My wife appreciates not being blinded with a “Beam of light” if I am still scrolling while she is trying to sleep.

### 4/5 — Trial period a joke.

*2026-05-09, version 5.3.7*

Trial period ended barely an hour after I installed. This was supposed to be a 3 month trial period. LoL! Wouldn’t recommend any product that isn’t fair in their dealings.

*2026-04-09, version 5.3.7*

This is the best app that I’ve tried—and I’ve tried MANY! I appreciate the granular control that it affords for various websites. Furthermore, it’s cross platform! I like having the same extension on Safari AND Chrome. It just makes life SO much easier!

### 5/5 — CANNOT DUE WITHOUT!

With 70+ year old eyes and eye floaters, the is an extension I cannot due without. Glaring white websites are reduced to dark mode, which means way less stress on your eyes and for $.75month, $9 a year, I cannot think of a better bargain.

### 5/5 — Easy Purchase

*2025-11-16, version 5.3.7*

## Most critical reviews (10 lowest-rated)

### 1/5 — Ain’t free

*2026-04-30, version 5.3.7*

Way too expensive. Not free.

### 1/5 — This app is a subscription to spyware

*2025-12-10, version 5.3.7*

This app should not be a d description, why can’t we just pay once to have the feature unlocked permanently? Every app now is a subscription that milks every last cent from its users, and this one is no different. Additionally, the extensions asks for permission to see your browsing history, including sensitive information which could include passwords, phone numbers, and credit cards.

### 1/5 — Needs to be free

*2025-10-31, version 5.3.5*

Seriously why do we need to be charged money for this? It's a program that you made once, you don't need to be continuously getting money from it. Also it is super easy to code, so there is no reason for it to cost anything.

### 1/5 — Apple cash-grab

*2025-09-21, version 5.3.5*

Subscription till Sept.-2026. Can't sign in or sign up because email not recognized or old subscription expired(?): therefore I cannot activate app. This is a scam. Wasted $13 for Pro version. Avoid & get "TURN OFF THE LIGHTS".

### 1/5 — This thing will not uninstall

*2025-09-14, version 5.3.5*

Can’t get it off my ipad. This is maddening!

### 1/5 — Activation impossible after paying $40

*2025-08-25, version 5.3.3*

I paid $40 for the ultimate subscription. I was signed into my Google account on Chrome, and the activation was instant and worked fine. However, I am unable to get it to activate on Safari. The app has no option to sign in with Google. It just says account does not exist. I sent an email and a chat to support, but haven’t heard back in 5 days. Please help, I just want to use the app I paid for!

### 1/5 — not free forever

*2025-07-17, version 5.3.3*

didn’t realize there is a time limit on the free version, so i’m deleting this app. i can’t afford to pay unless and until i am certain the app will work as expected. the description indicates the app can be used free on a limited number of simultaneously open tabs which is different from what’s presented after downloading. and i don’t sign up for trial periods because it’s always difficult to cancel.

### 1/5 — Should be free

*2025-06-08, version 5.2.7*

It’s a safari extention for dark mode. That’s it. It’s a simple HTML editer. Nothing anybody should be paying money for.

Turn Off The Lights for Safari is free, customizable open-source, and doesn’t collect your data.

Developer, don’t respond with your usual template. You know in your heart this is a grift.

### 1/5 — Doesnt work on Reddit

*2025-02-08, version 5.2.2*

Couldn’t get it to work on Old Reddit. Makes it useless to me.

### 1/5 — Not sure if its designed for use on Apple products

*2025-01-22, version 5.2.2*

I had great hopes for this app to use on an Apple Macbook Pro. Unfortunately, interacting with it, multiple windows opening, activating it on the latest Apple Safari browser, getting any help, all seemed to be faulty. Support should not be needed if the app is working okay. Every other app I use seems to work okay, plus all other functions. So it seems to be a problem with the app design or process. I’ve asked for a refund for subscription purchase 2 days ago. Hoping it gets better.

## Most praised reviews (10 highest-rated)

### 5/5 — Good

*2026-07-08, version 6.1.0*

Pretty good Extension

### 5/5 — :)

*2026-06-20, version 6.1.0*

Love the app :)

### 5/5 — Very good!

*2026-06-12, version 6.1.0*

I love using this app for darker appearances on my websites, it’s very nice and helpful to use!

### 5/5 — Makes writing on my computer doable

*2026-06-08*

I got this app so I could write scripts for my videos using Google Docs and it works perfectly. I didn’t realize how much I was resisting writing until I made the screen less painful to look at. It’s the only site I need it for, but I use it every single day, so I’m grateful for it.

It was easy to set up and has sped up my pre-production process significantly.

### 5/5 — Best for bad eyes

*2026-05-23, version 5.3.7*

I’ve recently lost some of my eyesight due to an illness, making looking at a computer (or any) screen for an extended period of time rather strenuous. I’m a full time student and I also work from home so this app is incredibly helpful!

### 5/5 — It should be this way

*2026-05-18, version 5.3.7*

The plug-in works excellent it doesn’t break pages and can be set and forgotten

Your eyes will thank you and you wonder how you ever stared at white screens all day

### 5/5 — This app is amazing

*2026-05-11, version 5.3.7*

I have tried out a few different browser extensions for dark mode, but a lot of them have UI that isn’t that friendly, or the dark mode isn’t fully integrated and looks weird. NightEye is amazing as a college student who uses their computer late nights!!

### 5/5 — 1‼️

*2026-05-09, version 5.3.7*

Night eye is by far the best dark mode for safari! & I’ve tried em all, trust me!

### 5/5 — Great app with long free pro trial period

*2026-04-22, version 5.3.7*

Works great and the trial period is very generous.

### 5/5 — ESSENTIAL FOR BROWSING

*2026-04-20*

I really like this browser extension because it works across all of my devices and browsers, I use chrome for my work, and safari for my personal browsing- on my computer and my phone- and night eye works seamlessly across all of them saving my settings so I can have a great browsing experience. I actually have been using the filtered setting the most on most of my websites and that saves my eyes. Webpages are just too bright! Night eye really makes a difference.
