It's broken. Dusty. Hazy. But from those imperfections, something beautiful emerges. Dark Park is a generator of cinematic pads and drones, sounds that feel like they're decaying, collapsing, breathing. It's designed for exploration and instant inspiration. When you enter the park, you're given a navigation device. Tap "Scan", and the world beneath the surface generates a new synth patch. Every result is guided by musical constraints, so even the broken ones remain beautiful. If you find a sound you like, you can save it as a preset. There are two paths through the park. Take the Clear Path for delicate, melancholic textures. Or wander down the Obscured Path, and discover sounds that ache. The interface gives you a curated set of controls: Fog. Halation. Sodium. Like we’re all so psychically beat down we should feel lucky anyone could muster the initiative and energy to give us a Zen of Doom background sonic generator. But still - a LITTLE more zip and sparkle might make it more engaging. Not that I’m complaining. * Can you PLEASE make it fill the whole screen on an iPad? The letterboxing makes it feel like a naked port from some other platform. * Also, these drones BEG for some pitch modulation, user-controllable for more immediate expression. Not a pitch wheel, though. Long running LFOs routable to pitch or amplitude, with a waveform or 3 AND a randomize knob might hit the spot. Better yet, something like sliding “aftertouch” à la the Animoog keys. Or simply stepless pitch sliding across the keys, like in VirSyn synths when we just turn off Quantize. * Finally, maybe a simple delay for even more perceptual smearing? ### 3/5 — Hard to use on iPhone. *2026-06-15* It’s really hard to see everything in iPhone. The mechanics tab has been opened up and mapping MIDI CC to these to move slowly with an LFO really shows this off over several minutes. Playing / programming chords into this with some reverb, delay, or granular effects really open this up. I can’t figure out the spray effect to work well for me musically. EQ the high noise helps or shut it off completely. Utilizing noise from an app like Needlepoint works better for me as I do understand the need for texture. Not gonna knock a star for that.
