When I push Hint in the HOP, I get an arrow indicating to go back. When I go back and push Hint, it highlights the HOP area. And I just cannot get that last item even though it is huge and right in the middle of the screen. Am I missing something, or is it a glitch? ### 3/5 — Could have been better *2016-09-05* The graphic violence at the beginning was completely unnecessary in a game like this, and seeing blood splatter on the woman's face every time I opened it became an annoyance. The art was good but the games weren't smooth at all and would jump at certain points to the extent I couldn't figure out what I did to solve them; I couldn't understand what some of them even wanted me to do. Many were a fail in my book. Hidden Object were mostly enjoyable and required more than just clicking on the items, and there was variety. Now wish I'd waited and read some reviews first. This game is very short and ended really abruptly, I actually thought something had gone wrong. The storyline is poor and makes no sense, I was continually wondering what was going on. The lenses didn't seem to work properly, I lost them when moving to the edges, and I didn't really get the point of the bag or the notebook, why not put item directly in your inventory? Seems like someone was working on some good ideas for new aspects to the game and got fed up and released it anyway! Collecting the cards for the mini game? Of course with reviews this negative, BF doesn't want to publish them!) And I mean exactly that: on so many levels, I just don't get it. This storyline (if one can call it that) has nothing to do with Poe's masterful short story The Tell Tale Heart; so why was his name and story's title involved? The opening sequence is gory, gratuitous and grating. Why grating? Because it plays on the continuous loop as you open the game. Like others, I play the games for escapism and enjoyment. The murders depicted were something one can read about or see in the media on a daily basis. It's unequivocally uncalled for in games such as these. There were glitches galore: sometimes tapping the tool bar sent me back a scene or even two. Application of certain devices for scenes (using a coin to loosen screws) didn't work until the third or fourth try. Frustrating, to say the least. As others point out, map doesn't transport. The autopsy goggles were a fiasco, not working half the time. Both the main game and bonus game end with unsatisfactory conclusions. It just goes on and on... Perhaps my expectations were too high, given that Poe's name was attached to the game and the stylish way in which the game is presented. Nice artwork (with the exception of the aforementioned issues) and voices were fine but that's about it. Edgar Allan Poe certainly deserves better than this, as do we the consumers. I thought the story was easy to follow, and the graphics were great. The main game was shorter than I would like, but acceptable. The bonus game was longer than I expected so, all in all, I really enjoyed it. Mind you, I play games if "I" find them interesting, I don't look for things like game "flow," or what some ppl look for. We've had how many Edgar Allen Poe games? You can't expect them all to be the same caliber as the first. I just play and enjoy the games for what they are. My only complaints were that the voice was different and the map didn't take you anywhere, which was alright because there weren't many places this time, and it did tell you where you should go. There was a comment on here that I'd like to respond to. She said the game was too short and a waste of money. She also said there was no bonus game. Yes, there is a bonus game, and it's pretty long. But the part that got to me was when she said she finished the game in two hours. To ME, that's a waste of money. Excellent graphics & soundtrack. Mini games are a little bit different & nice to play. That stuck out in my mind. However, cuddos to ERS for bringing us something a little different! Made it very interesting. The graphics were phenomenal as usual but more R rated which was awesome to me! I love scary stuff! Great story. Felt like you were actually really involved in solving this case! And it's not THAT graphic. I think ERS did a pretty good job actually.. They made a wide range of varying tasks, from the usual HO scenes and problem solving steps, to more in depth puzzles. I really liked their concept of closely examining the body (in sections, nothing too revealing) and using the microscope. It's actually something I've only done here or there in games, not a lot, so I feel this is a unique game for that reason. I didn't think it was too short, maybe if you skipped a lot of puzzles? Yes, it is bloody and scary, but it's a murder mystery, not a wimpy fairy tale game. Yes, it is short but I enjoyed the various HOPs and puzzles. Customizable Hint button refreshes as quickly as 2 seconds. My favorite detective has returned; my handsome, fashionable, aristocratic, and dazzling detective.......you get the picture. The premise discovers a hair-raising, spine-tingling fusion of murder mayhem with a horror-like themed concept. The plot successfully builds suspense and unfolds fluidly as the drama shifts from one predicament to the next. I like the shift from one witness's perspective to another. The graphics are beautifully and tactfully drawn with precise, refined details illustrating this developer's aptitude. The prevalent display of darker colors, such as gray, brown, and blue, exudes an austere, shadowy mood. The artwork displays an appropriate expertise of a grim and primitive glimpse into an 1800s laboratory: hanging skeletons move upon touch; jars contain freshly preserved body parts; blood and gore are splattered all over victims' bodies; and a grotesque, outstretched hand beckons for your attention. You can customize your settings; options are standard. The inventory is labeled, interactive and puzzle-like; items require assembly. I admire the layout of functions on the bottom left as they are displayed in one confined area but distanced enough to obviate accidental access. By the way people: when many items require assembly, that's called "puzzle-like", which adds some spice to gameplay. The map is nonessential in that your adventure is quite linear; objectives are indicated. Unfortunately, the map is not shy of imperfections and lacks its main purpose: it does not teleport! I was not able to jump to other locations even though I could manually travel to the same. It's a good thing I did not need it. Transition from scene to scene is fluid and uninterrupted. Some of the HOS are original and include a variety of clever and ingenious approaches to gameplay. The puzzles are varied, unique, and offer something for everyone. Some are "tastefully" rotational; some depend on dexterity skills; some are forensic-natured where you put your detective skills to work with your handy kit. The textual information appears in the form of acquired reading materials. You have a collectible; they are highly visible in placement. Overall, this game offers inventive variety and originality. I really felt as though I were transformed into a character of a novel through the high level of interaction. I did have to deduct a star due to the flawed map and a slight temperament of the lenses puzzles.
