The latest update increased the sampling rate to 500 Hz; however, the magnetometer appears to be off by a decimal point. The x,y,z components are hundreds of uT where it should be tens of uT. ### 4/5 — Impressive advancements! *2012-12-15* I worked military inertial guidance systems in the '90s with the smallest systems being the size of a small suitcase. This iPAD includes almost all the components needed for inertial guidance! ### 4/5 — Angles not working *2012-02-15* This is great app although my angles are not showing any reading . ### 4/5 — Clever App - does what it says *2012-01-21, version 0.91* See that screen? That's what you get - data for the three sensors, in three axes, displayed live on screen. Turn recording on, and it saves all the data to a .txt file, which you can email when you turn recording off. Issues? (What would get 5* ?) Would be nice to be able to reduce the sensitivity levels reported (it's so sensitive that even flat on the table reported data is changing.) Would be nice to be able to change the recording rate (fewer records per second) to reduce the volume of data captured over a period of time. Recording a 5 minute car trip produces a big file. But it's a smart piece of work - go for the PhD! ## Most critical reviews (10 lowest-rated) ### 1/5 — App is not functional *2020-10-12* Purchased app for a dollar then realized it doesn’t work. I cannot click the record button or anything else in the app. Waste of money ### 1/5 — Says it collect data, but delivers something a little different *2019-09-10* 1) App Does not seem to show up in Settings. 2) App is not collecting GPS data. 3) App output CVS data has unnecessary data: Want as follows: Timestamp, Accel_X, Accel_Y, Accel_Z, Gyro_X, Gyro_Y, Gyro_Z, Mag_X, Mag_Y, Mag_Z, Lat, Long Gyro should be rads/sec. **Developer response:** Please make sure that location services are enabled for the app. Also, feel free to modify the data in the CSV file to units of your liking. ### 1/5 — No Lat/Long in output file *2017-09-06* Useless DataCollection without positional lat long!!! **Developer response:** Please make sure that location services are enabled for the app. ### 2/5 — M. Thorman *2011-11-28* Great app. I did not rate it a five because my yaw pitch roll display worked sporadically at first and now does not work at all. I have not analyzed the data from it thoroughly but just playing a with it the data aplooks good. ### 3/5 — Wrong results *2013-11-20* The magnetometer data is wrong compare to three other apps I used. ### 3/5 — Please *2013-05-08* Please add a way to "tare" the orientation of the iPhone 5. For instance camera points magnetic north and you activate "tare". The system then locks in on that heading and attitude. ### 3/5 — Data collection *2012-07-11* What are the units for the magnetometer? There seem to be large offsets (200) in the mag data obvious when I spin the iPhone which I don't see with other asp. Some evidence of gain mismatch between axes also. Maybe this is raw sensor data? A scroll chart (similar to the icon) would be a great addition. ### 3/5 — Agree with previous *2012-02-05* Default sampling rate leads to big files that require post processing ### 3/5 — Amazing Potential *2012-02-02* As a recording mechanism, this app has some incredible potential. It could really benefit, however, by offering the user a way to adjust the sampling rate (i.e., takes a reading every 15 milliseconds or 2 seconds or 9 minutes). Otherwise, the saved file just ends up being huge. That would easily make this a 4 or 5-star app! ### 4/5 — Good *2019-05-31, version 1.14* Interested in the magnetometer more than the rest. Seems to be quite accurate apart from the Y axis. This has a scaling problem. The potential uses are amazing. ### 5/5 — Great! *2013-08-23* Really like fiddling around with this app. ### 5/5 — Not sure about emailing - resolved *2013-07-16* Recorded five seconds at one hertz. Display does not change when recording (maybe that is ok.) Update: this is expected behavior. When prompted after end of recording I selected 'email' and then app 'disappeared.' On restart, app is back to normal. I do not use apple email but another well-known third-party app. Update: EBKAC ... I had not enabled the email setting for the ipad. Once I pointed it to my third-party app, everything worked just fine. I have not checked via iTunes to see if data was actually recorded. Update: the data was recorded and sent out via email. Use was on ipad mini. Cool app. Hope this helps. Thank you Chris. ### 5/5 — Perfect for what I needed *2012-04-20* I was able to test some Matlab code using this app. Helped me get a tough project done on time. Good app with straightforward output. I wish there was a way to read the data in real time from a computer. Maybe over Bluetooth? That would be amazing. Need to be able to select a sample rate of say once a minute to once an hour to get a sensible data quantity in a day to see trends. ### 4/5 — No Data File *2015-01-05* This app does not email the data file nor put it in iTunes using iOS 8. I have an old phone still using iOS7 and had no problem. In addition, the developer has disappeared along with his data file. Other than that, the app is exactly what I wanted. **Developer response:** Please make sure your phone is configured with a Mail account in order to email the CSV file. ### 4/5 — You Made my day *2014-10-19* Man, i suggest you to use the same export format of pocket imu app. It's easier to process with a spreadsheet and to produce graph for engineering paper!
