### 3/5 — Broken

*2026-02-25, version 1.1.4*

It is extremely helpful but sometimes crashes and doesn’t work at all not even opening.

### 4/5 — Great app but access can be a little slow

*2026-01-15*

I love this app, ise it for many shortcuts i make and in combination with charty is very powerful. The only small geipe I have is that even on my Iphone 15pro the read/write access back and forth to datajar can be a little slow. I wonder if it apple or non-optimized code within datajar, but there is a noticable difference in pulling data from datajar vs pulling data from the notes app or something. But the structure and simplicity of datajar can’t be matched so far. Excellent app.

### 4/5 — Great app, awesome value… not sure how useful it is long term

*2026-01-11*

I’ve been using this as a way to have a data store for shortcuts, and while it is great for so much of it, I think the weird inconsistencies in how well it works that I run into are a big stopper to my wanting to use it long term. I built so much into it, and I think it’s worth every penny, but if you have a large amount of data you want to store in it… you start running into odd issues that I don’t even think the dev can control easily.

This is not a bug report, but when throwing multiple base64 encoded images into a value, it ends up crashing, and losing everything you threw at it, and stopping the shortcut. Is it weird to use it this way? Yes. Does that matter to my use? Eh, I mean, that’s kinda the point of this review, isn’t it?

I’ve switched now to just using files storage for my stuff, and that makes me sad because the more I do it, the more I appreciate the ease of use of this app… but stability is more important in the long run, and more I’ve gotta go back, and redo so much of what I was doing before.

Again, this is great if you don’t have too much to store all at once/the data you throw in is not _super_ important. Before starting the endeavor I’m on now a few months ago, I used it everyday without issue, or losing data basically ever. 💖

### 4/5 — Can you fix set value?

*2025-10-09, version 1.1.4*

Set value will only let me select a file. Thinking this app could be super powerful if it worked fully

### 5/5 — Best utility app ever

*2025-09-28*

Simple, clean and does what exactly what it says. The possibilities are endless. Definitely recommend 🔥

### 5/5 — Great stuff

*2025-07-19, version 1.1.4*

Just works for my simple purpose. Thank you Simon!

### 5/5 — Must have if you are creating complex shortcuts

*2025-07-19, version 1.1.4*

Data Jar is an absolute must-have if you use the Shortcuts app. It makes storing and managing data very easy. It honestly feels like a missing piece of Shortcuts that Apple never gave us.

### 5/5 — Essential DLC for the more advanced shortcut experience

*2025-06-21*

It is wonderful apple made shortcuts and that this dev made data jar. DJ has an apparently simple UI which makes it easy to navigate and understand. The way different storage types can be combined and layered has made it essential for all of my more complicated shortcuts data needs thus far. A price tag of $0 and stating no data collected makes this a crazy good app.

### 5/5 — Great Addition 👍🏽

*2025-06-12*

Just downloaded, but i am in love 🥰. Great App

### 5/5 — Wonderful and necessary

*2025-05-28*

This app adds what should be core functionality to the shortcuts app. I’ve struggled for years to set up shortcuts that are based on some kind persistent state and now that I found data jar it’s finally possible. Thank you so much!

### 3/5 — Missing key features

*2025-05-20, version 1.1.4*

- Very difficult to delete items from a list. And no good documentation or example shortcut showing how to do so most efficiently.

- Window won’t size to the full vertical height of my 16” MacBook display.

### 5/5 — Warum sollte man dies nicht 5 Sterne geben

*2025-04-01*

Eine super App, ohne Werbung und Paywalls. Aber warum ist diese App kostenlos?

### 4/5 — Missing Key Features

*2025-03-31, version 1.1.4*

Great app and kudos to the developer for keeping it free. Just wish you could add individual values to existing dictionaries (which is possible for Lists).

## Most critical reviews (10 lowest-rated)

### 1/5 — Unreliable System

*2026-07-08, version 1.1.4*

Been using Data Jar for over a year and suddenly half of my tables disappeared for no reason. There’s no mechanism to restore to a previous sync. The only option is to manually export your data after every change and restore from a saved manual export. In this day and age, how is a manual export the only option. Use this at your own risk, knowing that your data will just randomly disappear at some point in the future.

### 1/5 — Can’t set a simple Boolean in shortcuts

*2026-05-25, version 1.1.4*

It can read booleans just fine, but trying to set one makes me use the file picker?

### 1/5 — Security risk

*2026-05-09, version 1.1.4*

This app represents a security risk when combined with shortcuts. Recommend that you do not install.

### 1/5 — Missing key features

*2025-09-23, version 1.1.4*

- No support for macOS Tahoe

- No Liquid Glass

- Very difficult to delete items from a list. And no good documentation or example shortcut showing how to do so most efficiently.

- Window won’t size to the full vertical height of my 16” MacBook display.

### 1/5 — Leider, leider

*2025-04-06*

Set value no longer works. Support request is not answered despite coffee.

### 1/5 — Great idea, but …

*2023-04-19*

it would be nice, if the iCloud synchronization would work reliably. Unfortunately, that's not always the case and you don't get an answer to support requests.

### 1/5 — iOS 15 removed all entries in my dictionaries

*2021-09-23*

Nothing more to say.

### 1/5 — Application fort utile avec les raccourcis. Mais

*2020-07-10*

Depuis plus d’un mois plusieurs fois par jour elle bug . Toujours lié à un Time Out. C’est fatiguant donc je vais devoir modifier la vingtaine de raccourci qui l’utilise et réutiliser iCloud comme je faisais avant 😖

### 2/5 — Shortcuts Issues

*2025-12-09, version 1.1.4*

Works great on iOS and iPadOS, but on Mac OS I’m not seeing it show up in Shortcuts to even use.

### 2/5 — Files get deleted automatically

*2025-01-14*

If I have a large numbers of files stored, and try to get all them at once, they start auto deleting

## Most praised reviews (10 highest-rated)

### 5/5 — So helpful

*2026-05-19*

Amazing app, can do so much more with shortcuts that seemed impossible (or incredibly complicated) before. Thank you so much for making this.

### 5/5 — Super App!

*2026-05-01*

### 5/5 — Best Companion App for Complex Shortcuts

*2026-03-02*

As someone who builds complex automations in iOS Shortcuts, Data Jar has become an essential part of my workflow.

It allows me to store and manage structured data in a clean, reliable way — which unlocks a whole different level of power when building dynamic, multi-step automations. If you’re working with advanced variables, persistent data, budgeting systems, API calls, or custom workflows, this app dramatically expands what’s possible.

Cloud sync has been seamless across my devices, which is huge when working between iPhone and iPad. Everything stays consistent and reliable.

Looking forward to future enhancements, but even in its current state, this is easily the most powerful data companion app for iOS Shortcuts.

Highly recommended for serious automation builders.

### 5/5 — Life changing app icl

*2026-02-21*

If you get it, make sure to tip the developer if you like it. Since he made this free 🙂

### 5/5 — Indispensable App!

*2026-01-22, version 1.1.4*

Data Jar transforms what is possible with Shortcuts. I have been able to create complex and powerful automations because Data Jar creates ways to share state and information across them. Must have app!

### 5/5 — Unique and necessary

*2025-12-17*

Data Jar is unique. It allows me to store tons of useful pieces of information in a pseudo-database style. And it is necessary as it allows me to grab that information and use it in ways that has just changed my work flow completely. I love to just “have a play” with it as Rosemarie Orchard might have said, but I also just forget that what I am doing day to day is reliant on the shortcuts which it supports. Also, it is solid in its ability to work between the Apple platforms. Can you tell I need this app? I do. Thank you Simon for making and continuing to watch over Data Jar.

### 5/5 — Awesome

*2025-12-04*

It’s quite impressive how someone could think of a simple solution like this! Data Jar is like that helpful page that you have hidden away in your spreadsheet, where you store all your complex formulas, booleans, and references. This way, you can keep your main spreadsheet (or the Shortcuts app, in this case) neat and organized.

### 5/5 — I love you

*2025-11-29, version 1.1.4*

I love you

### 5/5 — Sehr stark, kleiner Bug(?)

*2025-11-16*

### 5/5 — Simple and effective

*2025-10-29*

Should be in Shortcuts, but it’s not, so this is a life saver. Thanks!
