Caged system is essential is you want to learn your fretboard quickly and get you playing all over the neck, makes playing easier!

### 5/5 — Very helpful

*2014-08-30, version 1.7*

The body of material here is very good and explains a lot about the CAGED system. The beauty of the app comes through for me in the quizzes. Practicing these will help you know you fingerboard and chords so much better!

### 5/5 — Great

Fantastic app. Rich with content. You can spend hours with it it. Well thought out.

Any chance of a triad app next?

### 5/5 — Bugs?

*2014-04-05*

Great app for learning caged system but there are some annoying bugs around the 'D' shape in the exercises.- please fix ASAP

### 5/5 — So interactive!!

*2014-02-01, version 1.7*

This is the only and the best application for learning the CAGED system AND I DON'T UNDERSTAND HOW COME PEOPLE IS GIVING A BAD REVIEW TO A SUCH A GREAT WELL DONE JOB!!
⭐⭐⭐⭐⭐⭐⭐ I really love this app!! Thanks!!

### 5/5 — Excellent method ! The best !!

*2013-12-23*

Thanks !

### 4/5 — Wonderful app!

*2013-07-28*

I really have learned the CAGED system from this app, after not managing to do so from books. The exercises challenge on exactly what you need to learn, and practice mentally. There are a couple of bugs, multiple choice questions where 3 answers are correct, but apart from this, David has put a great resource together. If I can learn from it, anyone can!

### 4/5 — Excellent Resource

*2013-07-27*

As a relative newcomer to the guitar and later in life than most, I find this an informative, clear and concise guide to understanding the fretboard. "Exactly what it says on the tin"

## Most critical reviews (10 lowest-rated)

### 1/5 — Where are the minor chords?

*2020-09-25, version 2.00*

Does not show any shapes for minor chords. Can I get a refund?

### 1/5 — Lacking

*2017-06-03, version 1.7*

Not a lot of detail for such a highly rated app, especially for a beginner. The app is also in need of update so that it will continue to work with newer versions of IOS according to Apple yet it's still being sold.

### 1/5 — No Learning Curve!

*2013-09-14, version 1.7*

I purchased this app based on the high ratings others reviewers gave it, and was almost immediately disappointed. Although the lessons spell out the CAGED system fairly well, the exercises are hopelessly difficult for a newbie.

There is no gradual learning here. The learning curve is a cliff! Even the first exercises expect you to regurgitate any chord in any position. There's good information here, but no progressive skill building. We learn best in small doses and this app teaches the concepts, but gives us no exercises to gradually apply this knowledge.

This app desperately needs simple exercises that take one chord and teaches us two positions. Start us in the familiar root position. Explain how the CAGED acronym works. (You skipped that!) Then give use a nice little two position jam, then slowly build our skills by adding one more position, one at a time.

Do this for each chord. Be sure to drill us on the unusual fingerings, like G.

Then mix things up a bit by giving us two different chords and showing us how to play them in different positions. Again, give us a fun little two chord jam, then add progressive lessons that add one more chord or one more new position. And please change things up a bit so we don't get bored.

Finally, how about giving us a familiar song with a simple three chord progression, and teaching us a variety of position combinations that flow together well? Give us some fun jam tracks to play along with.

I would love to guided through the process of getting the CAGED system under my fingertips. This app explains, but does not teach.

### 1/5 — Doesn't Work

*2012-05-04*

Paid for an app to learn, it worked three times then crashed. Will wait for update to fix, or better still not waste hard earnt money on apps that don't work. For information every other app on I phone works perfectly, just not this one. Gave it one star as can' submit review without star.

### 2/5 — Need an update to work with the current IOS

*2017-12-08, version 1.7*

Needs update

### 2/5 — Dangerously close to copyright infringement

*2013-06-29, version 1.7*

Feels like a lift from the guitar program called Fretboard Logic by Bill Edwards. I can believe all the pentatonics and minor chords were ignored on this app. Save your money.

### 3/5 — The caged guitar

*2013-05-17*

Nearly as good as the book written by Paul Foad the guitar legend.

### 4/5 — Great app

*2014-07-22, version 1.7*

It's been amazing in helping find root notes over the entire neck of the guitar.

### 4/5 — Not Brilliant but good

*2014-04-12, version 1.7*

This is a pretty good system for getting used to the CAGED system of getting around your fretboard.
Tends less to teach than give you exercises this is okay if your not a beginner. In which case you will need something more educational. Pretty good for intermediate and above though.
Of course when you think about it, the CAGED system is not exactly complicated. Along with that of the apps in this series this is a pretty good educational tool.

### 4/5 — There is no magic bullet

*2014-04-04, version 1.7*

It's okay. Lessons are really basic.
Timers are a little off in the exercises.
Also, it does not support landscape mode, only portrait.

Hummm.... Even though I wrote a review, it bugs me to write a review, even if I say no thanks....

## Most praised reviews (10 highest-rated)

### 5/5 — Addictive!

*2020-12-28*

Excellent app. The tests/quizzes are really addictive, which is great when you’re trying to teach yourself positions all over the neck. Very powerful app with clear descriptions and insightful ideas

### 5/5 — Worth It

*2020-04-05, version 2.00*

If the guitarist makes a consistent commitment, this app will produce the results. This is a great way to learn elements of music theory as it applies to the guitar.

### 5/5 — Incredibly handy app to learn and practice CAGED system

*2018-07-25*

Definitely among the top three best apps out there for those who seriously need to begin learning and practicing chords on guitar. It helped me immensely and I absolutely recommend it. Cheers!

### 5/5 — Very useful

*2018-06-25*

I found this invaluable for learning chords all over the fingerboard. The quizsection really reinforces what you have learned.

### 5/5 — Great exercises!

*2017-11-17*

Lessons are a bit short but exercises are exactly what this app is about!

### 5/5 — Update

*2017-10-14*

5 stars for this great app. When are you going to update it so it can run on IOS 11 ? I can’t use the app at the minute, please update.

### 5/5 — Good stuff

*2017-05-25, version 1.7*

I am enjoying the app - especially finding the nicely-worded explanations and slow ramping-up of the intensity of the exercises very helpful.

### 5/5 — Perfect learning tool

*2016-12-25, version 1.7*

Don't let the older design style fool you -- this app is the most effective way to learn the fretboard hands-down. David Mead truly understands the brain's learning process.

I recommend getting this in combo with JustinGuitar's Note Trainer app, and David Mead's own Guitar Gym app.

### 5/5 — Best CAGED system primer I've used

*2015-11-10*

Really appreciated the thoughtful randomized exercises.

Great work.

### 5/5 — fives stars

*2015-10-12*
