### 4/5 — Upgrading phone login issue resolved – everything is back.

*2026-08-22, version 2026.17*

I upgraded my phone. I tried to log on my new phone. When I logged in my Journal was empty. There’s no way to contact Day One other than an email. No phone support, no chat. Emailing eventually works. Took a little longer than I had hoped for, but I got all my entries back. It was basically more an error on my side and how I logged in. There are two ways to login via Apple ID or username and password. I couldn’t remember which way I had done it and when I logged in with Apple ID, nothing was there. And apparently I tried logging in using username and password too many times and it locked me out. So it was a little scary. But everything is good now. Thanks for your help.

I do recommend users exporting your data every once in a while to save us a backup.

Also, it would be helpful if Day One had an online chat. If they had a online chat, I would give five stars.

### 3/5 — VPN required

*2026-08-20, version 2026.17*

Overall I love it honestly, everything is very good, BUT the app limits usage in several countries and requires VPN for synchronization to work properly. Like… come on, guys… Are you getting paid for this??

### 2/5 — But whyyyy?

*2026-08-19, version 2026.17*

So I haven’t journaled in a really long time and decided I would open up this app to start back only to be met with a screen asking for $50 or a yearly subscription. I had a free subscription and I am no longer able to access my earlier entries because I cannot get around the screen asking me for money. Is there a workaround?

### 4/5 — Love this journal app

*2026-08-13, version 2026.16*

Have been keeping my journal for years. One less star as the 5 min video cap is a pain. But having flashbacks from years before and a mix of voice notes, pictures, links and writing is brilliant.

### 5/5 — Day one has brought me from a long way

*2026-08-07, version 2026.16*

it helps remind me what I really think about things

### 3/5 — The iPad DayOne seems buggier than the MacOS version.

*2026-08-07, version 2026.16*

Lots of odd hesitations in keyboard entry, not seen on my iMac or my iPhone. Odd glitches in cursor movement. Sometimes I have to quit and restart the app before it’s usable. No problems at all with the Mac version.

### 5/5 — Make my life better

*2026-08-07, version 2026.16*

The prompts make me reflect more. I write journal every day and my mind is clear and peaceful

### 5/5 — Best app and use everyday

*2026-08-06, version 2026.16*

I was looking for an app like this long time ago and try different apps. This is the one I finally picked up. I already keep writing for 4000 days. Let keep writing. I haven’t used the ai feature even I used Ai agent everyday but want to keep a private place for myself.

### 5/5 — Love love love.

*2026-08-05, version 2026.16*

My best app ever. Thank you that even the free option is enough to sustain the quality! Thank you 💕

### 5/5 — Love this app

*2026-08-04, version 2026.16*

I like using this app. It is easy to use, it looks nice and is easy-ish to access on any device. And the fact that you can both export and import is a big save.

### 5/5 — What a Gift!!

*2026-08-04, version 2026.15*

Day One Journal is one of the best gifts I have ever given myself. I had been journaling digitally for more than a decade, and when I downloaded the Day One app, I transferred 10 years worth of musing and memories, and now to have those pop up on this date in previous years has given me tremendous insight and reflection. I’ve been recommending this app to everyone. I know who keeps a journal.

### 4/5 — Good at what it does

*2026-08-04, version 2026.15*

This is probably the most get-out-of-the-way journalling app I’ve used, with one notable exception. They recently added AI features to the app, for a premium subscription, alongside a setting to turn them off. However, turning them off doesn’t hide them from the app, so even if you hate AI there is a chatbot upsell shown to you every time you launch the app with no way to hide it, even if you’re a paying subscriber who doesn’t want the AI tier. But for this, I would love using the app every day, but as it is, I find it kind of annoying and obtrusive.

### 3/5 — It’s ok

*2026-08-02, version 2026.15*

Another concern: I’d love to see more variety in the Daily Prompts. Many questions have already been asked before. Refreshing the prompt library would keep journaling feeling fresh.

I’ve been using this journal for a couple of years and overall it’s ok. It gets the job done. But as I evaluate the cost per year, I’m taking a second look at other options.
There are 3 features that I would love to see: highlights in other colors and not that dreadful gold, text in different colors and the ability to archive of journals. As I’m searching for other journals I found this one to be a bit outdated compared to newer options. Unless they add new valuable features that I need , I probably won’t renew. I’ll selected a different program for a cheaper price that has the features I want.

### 4/5 — Good app

*2026-08-01, version 2026.15*

I use Day One everyday to check in on my thoughts and set the intention for my day. I do not pay for the premium version because I don’t see a positive cost/benefit to do so, if there was a personalized AI coach available, I’d pay for that.

## Most critical reviews (10 lowest-rated)

### 1/5 — Help! The last update froze my app

*2026-08-23, version 2026.17*

And ive restarted my iphone15pro. Can you release another update to fix please! I dont want to lose 5yrs of journal entries!

### 1/5 — Ridiculous pricing for a basic app

*2026-08-22, version 2026.17*

Average UI, basic features, ridiculous price.

### 1/5 — Lost all my entries

*2026-08-19, version 2026.17*

I upgraded my phone. I tried to log on my new phone. I lost all of my journal entries. There’s no way to contact Day One other than an email. No phone support, no chat. Very disappointing. I emailed I got a response now they are looking into it and not to try and logon again. but now it has been two days from when I have have not been able to get on Day One Journal. I’m really worried that I lost all my data. I’m still waiting on a response to help me fix it.

### 1/5 — Missing 2 months of Journal Entry - No help from app support team

*2026-08-18, version 2026.16*

If you have this app I recommend you quickly export your journal so you would not be in the same position. I had the misfortune of losing 2 whole months of daily journal entry. All of the recommended troubleshooting amounted to diddly squats. After going back and forth with the support team and happiness engineer I am still awaiting resolution. I STRONGLY RECOMMEND YOU EXPORT YOUR ENTRIES ASAP ESPECIALLY IF YOU HAVE THE FREE VERSION. Hoping Dayone resolves the issue and “recover” the missing entries without forcing me to pay $50. Still waiting patiently

### 1/5 — Day One scrubbed me, they :erased all my years of diaries🤬🤬🤬🤬🤬🤬🤬👎🏼👎🏼👎🏼👎🏼👎🏼👎🏼👎🏼

*2026-08-02, version 2026.15*

What? years of entries gone?? Sabe your stuff and QUIT these thieves

### 1/5 — Last update

*2026-08-01, version 2026.15*

2022: A lot of basic text editing features are missing. No text colors, single color for highlighting.

It is been a while, but still no fix.

2024: Last update is not an improvement of the look. Huge font, can only see few entries. Please, add an option to get back to an old look.

12/7/2025: After last update, copy/cut/paste functionality is messed up. Cannot select more than 10 lines of text. Practically unusable.

7/28/26 - copy/cut/paste functionality is still not fixed. You can’t copy even a few paragraphs, page starts jumping, text becomes unselected. The only work around is to go by small chunks of text. Very annoying that it is still not fixed.
For some reason they never fix reported issues.

### 1/5 — Disappointed with Day One’s AI Feature Changes

*2026-07-31, version 2026.15*

I used to love Day One, but I’m really disappointed with how they handled the AI features.

When I upgraded, AI was advertised as one of the premium features. Now, those same AI features have been moved behind an even more expensive subscription tier. Existing paying customers weren’t clearly informed that something they already paid for would require another upgrade.

I’m not against companies charging for new features, but taking away or restricting features that were part of the premium experience feels misleading. A little transparency and better communication would have gone a long way.

Day One is still a beautiful journaling app, but this change has made me lose trust in the company. I hope they reconsider how they treat their loyal subscribers.

### 1/5 — The best journal app for iOS just got a lot worse.

*2026-07-29, version 2026.15*

New UI in the recent update completely loses the focus of being a journal app - too much wasted space and much harder to quickly switch between journals.

The new update also adds AI-based chats and journaling, which is fine if that’s how you want to write, but it feels like a big step in the wrong direction for this app.

### 1/5 — Too expensive

*2026-07-29, version 2026.15*

$75 for a digital journal??? And….deleted.

### 1/5 — HELP

*2026-07-28, version 2026.15*

I been using this app for about four years now. Love it BUT suddenly yesterday it disappeared and when I back to app search and tried to open it. It wouldn’t let me. I have it on my older iPad and it still works fine. Why can’t I get it back on my new iPad? I’ve been using it on it for a number of years already on this iPad.

## Most praised reviews (10 highest-rated)

### 5/5 — Since 2014

*2026-08-21, version 2026.17*

I’ve been using this abs since 2014. It has helped me express myself in a way that wasn’t really available on the phone back when I started using this. There are other apps now, but I have loyalty and come back to this time and time again.

### 5/5 — Best Journal App

*2026-08-21, version 2026.17*

Been using Day One for years now across devices and love all its features. I’m an avid journaler so this has been one of the best additions to my routine!

### 5/5 — Faulty on an iPad Pro

*2026-08-20, version 2026.17*

I should give it 5 stars as this is one of my favorite apps but something has happened to make it almost unusable. It quits working on a regular basis so I have to use my iPhone and thankfully it saves on the cloud so when it decides to work on my iPad I have everything from my phone. Update as I was contacted by DayOne and all is working fine again.

### 5/5 — 1234

*2026-08-20, version 2026.17*

I’m in love with this app! When I remember, I take a photo at 12:34 pm… just for kicks!!

### 5/5 — Captures the sentiment of the moment

*2026-08-19, version 2026.16*

Whether in text, audio or photo; it is always the right place to share. So easy to adapt into my routine and a terrific reminder of what matters most.

### 5/5 — i’ve had this app for years

*2026-08-17, version 2026.16*

i’ll never delete it honestly. i love it

### 5/5 — Time tested

*2026-08-14, version 2026.16*

I’ve been using this app for over 10 years now. If you casually journal, the free version is just fine. I regularly journal and enjoys the extra features with the premium version. I love being able to look back to certain dates in past years to see growth, and also like that it can sync between multiple devices.

### 5/5 — La mejor

*2026-08-12, version 2026.16*

He usado varias y creo que está esta es la mejor y más completa

### 5/5 — Love this app so much!!

*2026-08-12, version 2026.16*

Really good app, way easier to use than my usual notebook. Lots of features available for the free version, although i'm considering getting premium because i like it so much.

### 5/5 — Great app!

*2026-08-11, version 2026.16*

Easy to use & navigate
