### 1/5 — Great mission, bad banking

*2023-04-18*

I really appreciate the mission they started with and the aim for inclusive banking and financial literacy and enablement. The same for the pivot to help those interested in building a family.

As an actual bank and banking app, it doesn’t even meet minimum and not all features work.

### 1/5 — Terrible Bank

*2023-03-21*

Got a message today saying that their risk assessment team decided they couldn’t keep me on as a customer so they just closed my account. No warning, no way to move money. No explanation. They just closed it. I’ve working my credit up from not having a job for a year so I don’t why all of a sudden they would just now decide I can’t have an account but you know… great way to kick a queer person down when they are already down! I hope you guys feel good about yourselves.

### 2/5 — Mixed relationship with this bank/app

*2022-12-11, version 1.66.3*

I really appreciate the inclusive banking and that I can use my true name on my card and such. But that’s where it ends.

The app is riddled with bugs and they seem to never update or fix it. As others have mentioned, paycheck deposits come in late. Paycheck deposits are one of the only ways to get money in to the account. And the only way to get money out is by spending it. You cannot ACH, Plaid, or any other means of transferring money in or out. It’s beyond frustrating. It feels like they are holding my money hostage.

They say we can use Zelle to transfer money but my experience with Zelle as a service is that it is also frustrating and restrictive to use (the 1-1 mapping of email address/phone number to bank account makes it very difficult to manage more than one bank account w Zelle, and they put restrictive limits on transfer amounts).

This app “gamifies/socializes” banking which I’m not a big fan of. My banking activities shouldn’t be anyone else’s business. I can’t wrap my head around why they put so much effort into the “social” features when basic banking app features - that folks expect - are nonexistent.

They let you create special savings accounts for setting aside money for stuff, and set roundups, which is nice in theory but also falls short. If I’m going to be setting aside large amounts of money it should be set somewhere where it is growing. Not stagnating and losing value due to inflation. There are other apps out there that do the same thing and put your money into high-yield savings or into stocks/bonds.

So because it’s the only one of my banks that let’s me use my true name, I do put some “spending” budget in there to use when I’m going out or whatever. But that’s the extent of it. Until they improve things, it just cannot be used for any serious banking.

Though I don’t have direct evidence to back this up, I get the eerie sense that whatever monster is behind this “bank” (bank or corporation or individual) only created it to take advantage of an already vulnerable population. If someone had built this with love, I think they would be prioritizing differently and making slow steady progress on improvements.

As an app developer in fintech, I know that one or two devs and a good product manager could implement some of these sensible improvements fairly quickly (I’ve personally done the same work). It is clear they maybe hired a third party to develop the app to its current point, called it “done” and placed it on the shelf. I highly doubt they employ any full time devs at all (again with the backwards priorities). And if they do, they seem to have gone to lunch - permanently.

### 3/5 — Torn

*2022-10-24, version 1.66.3*

I loved the concept here ever since it was first announced. This is the one bank that’s let me use my chosen name. And they have great ideas, but the app is pretty much a constant bug, my regular deposits come in later than any other bank I’ve used, plus at random times, and even then they’re pending for who knows how long. I stuck it out as long as I could. I’ll be switching back to my old bank at the end of the month.

### 1/5 — TERRIBLE experience, if there is an issue don’t expect help

*2022-08-29, version 1.65.0*

Do not recommend. I signed up, there was an issue where they said they couldn’t verify my identity. The link they send me to verify would not let me in and told me to contact support. I have been working with their support since the 19th. I never got my card. I cannot deposit. I cannot withdraw. I cannot do anything except go to their community tab or create a savings goal that I cannot even work towards because, well, anything with money errors out. Support also will leave my messages unread for over 3 days at a time. Service levels that low would have me as a customer service rep fired.

While it’s cool that they have a bank that trans people can have their true name as opposed to their legal name, maybe because I moved so much this year it’s confusing their system but there is NO way to access the info I sent them to even see if maybe I made a typo that caused this and their support is absolutely useless.

### 5/5 — It’s the name

*2022-06-05, version 1.62.0*

It’s the name that throw me off when someone told me about this bank I thought it was going too be called (Rainbow Light) Or (PRL aka Pride Rainbow Light) something else I love the name but never thought it would call be Daylight bank

### 1/5 — Absolutely terrible experience so far…

*2022-06-04, version 1.62.0*

It’s been about two weeks since I opened my Daylight account, and nothing has gone right. I haven’t even been able to use it. First, there was an issue with Plaid in linking my existing checking account, and now ANY time I open the app and try to log in, no matter what I do, I get an error screen saying an error has occurred and to check my connection and/or try again. There is nothing wrong with my connection. My most recent attempt at deleting and redownloading the app was today, well AFTER the “bug fixes” they supposedly did a week ago, and it still gives me the error screen when I log in. Support has not been responsive or forthcoming as I’ve been messaging them with updates. This is no way to support the LGBTQIA+ community.

### 2/5 — Still not working (and it’s been months)

*2022-03-12, version 1.50.0*

It’s been months and I still cannot use this bank account. I have not heard back from anyone regarding the new issues for weeks, which is unprofessional and rude. Giving two stars because the concept is great and the people are nice, but this is getting ridiculous.

### 3/5 — Wish there was a web portal 🤔

*2022-01-28, version 1.46.0*

I love the idea behind the banking system and would switch over but because of how I do banking with QuickBooks unless it’s available via web portal on my computer it makes accounting that much more difficult. For the average user though thats not as analytical about their accounting it’s a great place to start!

### 4/5 — Starting a new

*2022-01-26, version 1.46.0*

While the app is great the only issue have with it would be having a white out screen for the goals section which is baffling to me because I recently updated the app and contacted customer service about it and told me that the engineers would fix it as I’m still encountering the problem
