## What is Dazibao?

Dazibao is a polyphonic synthesizer programmed by an innovative interface : you create several tones, then you arrange them on several time lines. Dazibao will create automatically the corresponding wavetables and envelopes for filters, volume, pitch, vibrato, pan and so on. Add an organ tone, then a string tone, and Dazibao will produce the correct evolutive sound. Four modes help to create easily and quickly incredible sound evolutions this way.

Dazibao for iPad also includes an analog style drum box and bass line. Mix one of the seven types of noises with a sine oscillator, and you’ll create easily hundreds «TR like» or «Simmons like» sounds of percussions, including toms, snares drums, cymbals and bells. The bass synthesizer is an analog style one. The sequencer helps to create any kind of rhythms, from 2 to 64 steps, with any subdivision of the beat from 1/1 to 1/8.

At the end, in concert, you’ll load sessions. A session includes patches for the polyphonic synthesizer, and sequences. So, you’ll have immediately under your fingers several incredibles sounds added to drums and bass sequences to create a full and large sound when you play live.

Creating sequences which include variations of tones, or large pads with sounds traveling in the stereo space, or patches with a different sound evolution for each key has never been so easy : Dazibao offers many innovations in the user's interface which will help you to create quickly and easily the most complex patches, or the most experimental drums patterns. You won't miss matrix, sliders or jacks! You'll just extend the capabilities of your musical imagination.

We hope that you’ll love Dazibao as we do. Connected to a MIDI keyboard and to loud speakers, the pleasure to play is undeniably great!

Dazibao accepts the protocol Inter-App Audio for a perfect communication with the other musical applications of your iPad.

### 3/5 — A bizarre concept and unique idea for synth

*2018-11-11*

There are some neat ideas and sweet editing features. The app works just fine when your hooked up with midi; however the touchscreen keys are not responsive enough and that’s the main drawback and the overall layout is a bit well odd, it’s ok though!

### 5/5 — funky additive fm synth with analog style drums too

*2018-02-25*

interesting and strange synth with excellent additive harmonics and fm dist keys. also added analog drum synths

### 3/5 — Dazibao first impressions.

*2017-02-25*

The concept is excellent. I can't think of another synth the allows you to do what this one does. However, there are a couple of things it needs.
1. A note release part added to the envelope to allow for note amplitude and filter fades after releasing the note key.
2. More waveforms for the tone vibrato, ie, square and pulsewidth.
3. Some of the controls are quite fiddly to grab and control accurately, notably the Key editor page and the vibrato and pitch controls. Maybe have the option of a pop up value box to type in exact values.
4. When selecting a point to edit, the indicator in the colour boxes windows is quite hard to distinguish that it is selected, needs more difference between selected and unselected.
5. It has crashed a few times on my Ipad Air.

## Version history (last 5 releases)

### 2.2 — 2022-06-05

Possibility of using up to 300 tones for perfect compatibility with the MacOS version.

### 2.1 — 2020-01-15

Correction of a bug concerning the display of synthesizer controls in iOS13.

### 2.0.1 — 2019-12-22

Added a fifth patch mode called "Mix & Fade". (v. 2.0.1 : Fixed display of patch controls for this kind of patch)
This mode will allow you to continuously mix five different sounds from five different timelines. Editing a mix&fade is very similar to editing a key patch. The only difference is that the timelines are selected by a slider (MIDI CC16) or by the joystick.
Added a "Noise Control" in the effect page. This control helps modulating the oscillators with a noise generator : the frequency of the oscillators are randomised at every beginning of the wave cycle. This helps creating tuned noisy sounds like pan flutes or wood sounds with small modulations, and natural noises effects like storm or rain with stronger ones. This way, even if Dazibao does not include physical modelling synthesis, it can produce a part of the effects proposed by this kind of synthesiser.
Added an independent control for the resonance of the filters. The triangle still controls the frequencies of the LPF and HPF, and also the level of the Noise Generator.

Upgrade of the MacOS import files mode.
