### 3/5 — Half step off on newer iPhone 8+

*2017-12-29, version 2.0.2*

As a reference chord tool these apps are a great assistant, but this and the D’Scales app are off key on my new iPhone. I’m guessing these apps are no longer supported with updates?

### 2/5 — what happened to this app?

*2016-11-02, version 2.0.2*

I am an intermediate player and this app used to be handy but there was an upgrade and it is now getting useless. I cant change the backgound colour, the scroll featuers are inconsistant and it is getting too anoying to bother with. Too bad, at first it was ok.

### 3/5 — Just "okay"

*2015-12-16, version 2.0.2*

This app is okay. The original from Planet Waves was better, and this "refresh" leaves much to be desired.

First, it looks okay; not spectacular, and it is spartan if you like that look. It only works on the iPhone, so avoid it if you only have an iPad. If you do have an iPhone, the controls work but space is cramped unless you have a larger phone model.

Guitar Master might be a better choice over this because it comes with many more options.

So three stars because it works, but the lack of iPad support is a detriment in my view.

### 2/5 — Do not update

*2015-04-04, version 1.2.2*

The old version of this and Scalemaster were much better, in too many ways to list here. I would provide direct feedback to the company if I could, but the in-app support link is broken.

### 4/5 — What's happening its crashing now

*2015-03-18, version 2.0.2*

The new update keeps crashing. Fix please

### 2/5 — V2.0 Not iPhone Friendly

*2015-02-22, version 2.0.0*

I wish I hadn't updated to v2. I much preferred the V1 graphics and having everything on the same screen. Now it takes far too much effort to select a chord, then go back to the main screen, then go to the chord selection screen etc.

I do like the new options for right/left handed players and note/interval.

But why have the two screens? Get rid of the chord name on the main screen and have the chord selection at the bottom again. Or make V1 available again.

### 4/5 — Really great app, BUT

*2015-02-21, version 2.0.0*

The new interface is just.. So stark and bland. I get the minimalist flat look but it REALLY needs more color. Maybe just flatten the colors of the previous version?

### 4/5 — Now has sound

*2013-10-02, version 1.2.2*

After a very long time of having no sound, they have finally managed to repair the software and restore the sound,I can now review it properly.Generally a very good application,1or 2 chords missing from the library, but generally very good.

### 1/5 — No sound!

*2013-04-29, version 1.2.1*

I paid for this app. No sound WTH! C'mon guys, fix this!

### 3/5 — non-major 7ths, 9ths, etc.

*2013-04-15, version 1.2.1*

I generally really like this app. I don't use the sound, so do not have the complaints that some of the others do. However, I am amazed how confusing it is to find 7ths, and 9ths chord forms. While it is fine for things like G (triad), and Gmaj7's (for example), finding alternate forms for seventh chords like G7 is impossible. This is a major omission.

### 1/5 — No sound

*2013-04-11, version 1.2.1*

This app used to have, logically, SOUND! But no more! It has this huge library of chords with no sound, making it quite inferior. Disappointing. I wish they'd debug this app and fix this!

### 1/5 — No sound

*2013-04-11, version 1.2.1*

I want the sound. How come there is not any sound?

### 1/5 — No sound!

*2013-03-29, version 1.2.1*

This is a common problem, and apparently been going on for several months with no fix. I've deleted this app and now using Guitar Tool Kit.

### 1/5 — No sound AGAIN

*2013-03-29, version 1.2.1*

FIX THIS P.O.S.!

### 1/5 — JP

*2013-02-23, version 1.2.1*

I don't like to review others product however in this case..... Your product is not working for many of us that paid you, fix it find the solution for the sound refunding or ignoring will make you go away, maybe that's what you want in a business world one day you are a star the next .......... You know.

### 4/5 — No sound on chords shown

*2013-02-11, version 1.2.1*

UPDATE - I quit the app and rebooted my iPhone and the sound works fine now.

Useful in principle for looking up chord shapes, but as others have said, there's no sound when you strum across the screen.

### 2/5 — No sound

*2013-01-22, version 1.2.1*

No sound in updates

### 1/5 — Waste of money

*2013-01-21, version 1.2.1*

Doesn't work, there has been no sound on this app for months now, owners don't seem bothered to fix it. There are now many better chord apps available, don't waste your time & money on this one.

## Most critical reviews (10 lowest-rated)

### 1/5 — Junk

*2021-12-28, version 2.0.2*

Piece of junk.
The audio playing of chords is off by almost 1/2 step. Ever heard of 440 Hz tuning guys???

### 1/5 — Severly Outdated app.

*2018-10-11, version 2.0.2*

*Removed previous review since it no longer applies to this outdated app*

Apple should removed apps from app store that have not been updated for over 1 year.

### 1/5 — HATE THE UPDATE!!!

*2015-03-10, version 1.2.2*

This used to be the absolute best scale app, until the latest update. SMH I had to buy the guitar tools app from this company to get the old format, and I will never download another update if the format is like this. Str8 Regression

### 1/5 — What the hell?!

*2015-03-02, version 2.0.1*

Why would you mess with a perfect app!? Why? You messed up everything!

### 1/5 — Very Disappointed

*2015-03-01, version 2.0.1*

I'm a long time user of this and the Scale Wizard apps and can't begin to say how disappointed I am with this "upgrade". You got rid of a very cool looking 3d GUI that was easy to use and replaced it with a design that looks like it was done by kindergarteners. As a software engineer with over 25 years in the business, I would fire developers who took what was there before and turned it into this. Congrats on ruining a great couple of apps. You should stick to strings - you're good at those. Obviously app development is just not your forte...

### 1/5 — Way to ruin a great app

*2015-02-28, version 2.0.1*

I used to love this app before D'addario bought it. User interface is terrible now, unbelievably clumsy and hard to use. Navigation was so much easier before. You guys make great strings but ruin apps

### 1/5 — WTF have you done? Back to the Stone Age!

*2015-02-24, version 1.2.2*

Oh dear!

I just hate it when app developers jump on the "I think we need to update our app to the new IOS7 look" bandwagon. This always results in apps that look like a naff prototype and is always a step backwards. These guys have taken the graphics away completely and it looks bad! I mean really bad! In fact it looks so bad that you would need some pretty bad swear words to do it justice.

### 1/5 — Boooooo

*2015-02-23, version 2.0.0*

New interface is the pits!!! Looks cheep! You just jumped back 20 years in UI design.

### 1/5 — Defective app

*2013-08-16, version 1.2.1*

Why is this app. Still in the. Store. ??

No. Sound !! Tech support web site no longer exist !!

There should be a refund button. If app and developer has this type behavior !!

Its been what now ? 6 months app is defective. And it still is. ..........

### 1/5 — Negative two stars

*2013-07-26, version 1.2.1*

This app is unsupported and has no sound. Do not pay for/install this app. Refunds should be considered to those that paid for this. Thank you.

## Most praised reviews (10 highest-rated)

### 5/5 — Beautiful Redesign

*2015-03-09, version 2.0.1*

I'm not sure what the people who have posted 1-star reviews are talking about. The new design is both beautiful and more functional. It supports all screen sizes for new devices, adds landscape mode, adds a play button, and otherwise has the exact same functionality as the previous version. Controls have been moved to the bottom where they belong (especially important for larger devices). It's nice to finally see some music apps updated with modern designs.

"Software engineer with 25 years in the business." That's a laugh because you obviously don't know what you're talking about. Read the HIG.

### 5/5 — Perfect App !!!

*2014-03-04, version 1.2.2*

Works perfect, easy selection and you can listen to the pattern. All notes are listed at the top of the nut. Best app for guitar

### 5/5 — Phone reboot fixed no-sound problem

*2012-12-18, version 1.2.1*

On my iPhone 4, reboot returned sound which had disappeared when I loaded OS-6. Unfortunately, sound eventually disappears again requiring repeated reboots. This was a paid app which will become a ripoff if this no-sound bug isn't fixed.

### 5/5 — SOUND IS FINE!!!

*2012-12-10, version 1.2.0*

Was interested in this app but read all of the recent reviews saying that there was no sound since the IOS 6 update. Went to D'addario's website and then the support page. The FAQ's say to reboot the phone if there is no sound. Bought the app - no sound. Rebooted my phone - SOUND!

### 5/5 — Please Upgrade for iOS 6

*2012-10-02, version 1.0.8*

I have enjoyed this app for years now and the strum feature is not working for the iOS 6. Please upgrade the chordmaster and the scale wizard. Or should I downgrade to iOS 5 ?. Probably better.

### 5/5 — No iPad?

*2012-08-31, version 1.0.8*

One of the best guitar chord apps I've seen, and maybe the easiest to use. But, no iPad version? Seriously? It could be identical but just higher resolution. Hell, I'd even pay for it again!

### 5/5 — The best app for chords

*2012-06-29, version 1.0.8*

This app is amazing, it gives me chords i have never even heard of, which i like a lot.

Some people said that it would be cool if you can tap in some notes and get the chord..Well thats a bit difficult i guess, beacuse it hard to just tap in some random notes and get a chord. Its an amazing app.

I'm not even a guitar player, im a drummer, but its a must have app :). Worth the money, so get it while its cheap :).

Congratulations to the developers, keep it up.

### 5/5 — Great Lil App

*2012-02-24, version 1.0.8*

Being a lefty this is a great app! worth every cent. 😊

### 5/5 — Fantastic

*2011-11-24, version 1.0.8*

Great! Makes it easy to find any chord quickly. Only one wish... an iPad version.

### 5/5 — A++++

*2011-04-02, version 1.0.7*

Very Happy! A++++
