## What is De Brevitate Vitae?

A quiet reading edition of On the Shortness of Life.

Written in the first century, Seneca’s essay is a clear introduction to Stoic philosophy. Its central idea is simple: life is not short — we make it short by scattering our attention. The work remains strikingly relevant in an age of constant distraction.

The translation has been reviewed across all its languages — restoring a few passages that had been dropped, and softening phrasing that read stiffly against Seneca’s Latin.

Books open smoothly again, with a quiet note while the pages are set, and changing the type size or theme settles at once.

On iPad, the reading controls now line up with the text.
