### 4/5 — Thanks!

*2026-06-12*

Good way to learn, probably in conjunction with reading and tasting. Really appreciate that it’s available! My only complaint is the addition of AI generated photos. I get that it’s cost efficient but it’s a real eye sore.

### 4/5 — Timing

*2025-01-01, version 9.085*

When testing yourself there isn’t enough time to read the question properly to get the full mark

### 2/5 — Frustrating app.

*2024-09-30*

Very frustrating app. You have to remember the answers word for word. Many of the answers are out of date and therefore inaccurate.

### 2/5 — Subscriptions not working

*2024-06-08*

Paid for subscription did not unlock content. Emailed support twice. Emailed apple support. No response from either. Good content but needs update and support

### 4/5 — Cool app, could improve.

*2022-07-08*

I like the app. It's definitely challenging for a wine neophyte like myself. Recommend adopting a flashcard system based on neuroscience like the Forever Fluent language learning app (Too many nuances to go over here, but it's about a lot more than using flashcards). Other two improvements I'd recommend are the inclusion of maps and pronunciation (sound files) for those of us without the requisite language background. Bottom line is I do recommend the app and enjoy using it on a daily basis.

**Developer response:** These are good suggestions that we will take onboard.

### 4/5 — Excellent Wine App

*2022-04-07*

Know Your Wine is an excellent tool to extend your knowledge of wine no matter what your current level experience. As an educator, I am impressed with how effective the algorithm is. You will be amazed at how much you will learn.

### 2/5 — Out of Order Questions Lead to Frustration

*2022-01-03*

The concepts presented by the app have good intensions and seem to structure a natural learning of wine while avoiding short term memory learning faults. Unfortunately the early questions being wildly out of order lead to consistent frustration on aspects way too difficult for the section.

During the first few modules, why are questions on specific vineyards or labels included? Material on wine label basics or what specific label information means has not even been introduced yet. Asking about individual champagne label details that early on provides no opportunity for learning and incentivizes one time memorization in order to progress only to be forgotten soon afterwards.

While the majority of questions are appropriate, encountering unrelated random facts adds artificial difficulty and confusion.

**Developer response:** Hi Pinball Beast,

It was important for us that we offered a flavour of all content in the free modules. It is possible to mute modules and avoid encountering these early questions, whilst focusing on the topics you are interested in. Apologies if this was not clear.

### 3/5 — Could do better

*2021-03-19*

An interesting App for 10 minute “tune ups”. Some of the questions are subjective and repeat consistently even after many correct answers. Annoying it seems impossible to mute the alerts when in quick quiz mode. I have tried without success on 2 different iPads.

### 4/5 — Modules

*2021-01-17, version 4.045*

It’s a fun learning app but when I purchased a module, there was nothing but a photo.

### 3/5 — Please restore clear UI on home screen

*2020-12-02*

Please restore the old Home Screen. The new one is too full and unclear. Please also add explanations on the leader board, which is completely unclear.

### 3/5 — Love the app but...

*2020-10-09*

I love this app, but hate the ridiculous time restrictions. You can answer 10 questions and then need to wait for up to an hour to continue. I would love to be able to put in half an hour to the study and review of the questions, but the app locks you out after a very brief time. Impractical if you have limited time to dedicate to your studies.

**Developer response:** Hi amregal, I'm sorry to hear you are not happy about waiting for questions to become available. This is an essential part of the learning process, so learning is spaced and not crammed, which is a much more efficient way of embedding knowledge. However, there are ways around this. If you are subscribed you will have access to all modules, and the app will release new questions to you each session you complete. If you get questions wrong, you won't have to wait long (few minutes to an hour) for those questions to come up again. Have all modules unmuted and you will certainly not be waiting long if you use the app regularly. Completing quizzes regularly helps to reinforce and test your learning as well. I hope this helps.

### 3/5 — Enjoy the format, not the waiting

*2020-08-21, version 3.099*

I am paying for two modules and am still waiting for these questions.

It’s a strong learning platform, but the mandatory waiting to access questions is a deterrent.

### 2/5 — Great to so so

*2020-08-03*

This was a great app until the last update. Originally subscribed modules could be locked or unlocked. Only questions for the unlocked module(s) would then appear. With the upgrade the lock/unlock was removed. Now all pervious modules in the list will need to be muted to get the module for which question are really wanted. That is if you want module 30 then modules 1-29 will need to be muted . You can not choose to have multiple modules at one time as was possible prior to the update. If only one module at a time is OK then it’s still a good app.

**Developer response:** Hi Winer not whiner,

I'm really pleased you thought it was a great app, and hope I can get you back there!

The lock was taken off and replaced with "mute" as we found some people got locking/unlocking confused with whether you needed the subscription or not.

You can definitely have multiple modules unmuted, so you can access questions from a number of modules, or just one if you want. Muting modules is pretty quick, you just need to swipe left on the module name to reveal the mute/unmute button. We always suggest having at least 5-10 modules unmuted at one time to have access to enough questions each day, but having one module unmuted alone is possible.

I hope this helps.

### 4/5 — Love It!

*2020-06-17*

This is a great quizzing app to pass the time in a productive way. Only reason it’s not a 5 Star is that the sentence structure of some questions is odd and possibly incorrect. I always use the in app report tool so that’s already great there. Also there’s no quiz section on Germany which I know has many great wine regions and to be absent from this app surprised me a little, and I live in Germany as well so I wish I could learn more about their wine from here.

### 4/5 — New Release April 2020

*2020-05-05*

Related to question depth, are the “easy” questions included in the “hard” or is it two different sets of questions? I want my depth set to hard, but I don’t want to miss out on “easy” questions that I might not actually know the answers to. It looks like the total number of questions went from 1479 to 1477 despite modules being added for Austria. Why is the number of questions going down?

Also, what is the “accelerated end phase”? I hoped this would mean I’d get more/different questions but that doesn’t seem to be the case?

**Developer response:** Hi Carrie,

That is so great to hear, and 96% is very impressive! Based on your responses to date the app's AI will only ask you questions at the point it feels you may have forgotten the knowledge. This is why questions are being pushed so far into the distance, so when a question is next asked it may take you a bit of effort to recall the knowledge - this is important as it strengthens the neural pathways and means you are more likely to embed the knowledge into your long-term memory.
If you keep using the app you will get to a 100%, but remember new modules are added regularly, and of course you should keep using the app to maintain the knowledge. I hope this helps.

## Most critical reviews (10 lowest-rated)

### 1/5 — Waste of £20

*2025-06-16*

Spent £20 on the subscription and the answer options don’t show. Get a 404 error on app support link. Email address doesn’t work. Uninstalled and reinstalled. Worked for two rounds of questions. Same issue again. Don’t buy until it’s updated…

### 1/5 — Not worth it

*2024-12-14*

Paid for premium but I cannot use the learning section, it tells me that my next question is in 8 seconds.
When testing myself with the quizzes, the time to answer the question to get a full mark is too short, sometime I’ve only just finished reading the question.

### 1/5 — Frustrating app.

*2024-10-13*

Very frustrating app. You have to remember the answers word for word. Many of the answers are out of date and therefore inaccurate.
Test results were changed after a few months of learning for no clear reason, or notification of why. Have cancelled my subscription renewal. As a subscriber of the Decanter magazine, I thought this would’ve been so much better.

### 1/5 — Was great, but now seems to be irreparably broken

*2024-10-05*

I was really enjoying the app and enthusiastic about several of the changes being made to the modules and quizzes, until I realized that after the more recent updates, all access to new learning content was completely lost. The quizzes show up fine, but I have no access to much of the learning content needed to prepare. I have tried deleting and reinstalling the app, restarting from scratch, and adjusting every setting I can find but nothing has worked and multiple communications with the support team have been unfruitful. Very disappointing since this was previously a very useful and enjoyable app. I would recommend not subscribing until the glitches are worked out as it is extremely frustrating.

### 1/5 — Don’t Buy This App

*2024-07-07*

You owe me £20. I purchased this app and it doesn’t work at all. I have emailed your support team twice now asking for a solution and I’ve had zero response. This is effectively robbery and simply isn’t good enough. Sort it out.

**Developer response:** Hi Gregory, apologies we've been transitioning our support to a new system and a few messages have slipped through, could you please reach out again and we will try and resolve your issue or endeavour to facilitate a refund if we're unable to help. Thank you for reaching out.

### 1/5 — $30 upgrade NOT WORKING

*2024-03-14*

I bought the $30 subscription for a year of decanter to further my wine study. I have been gravely disappointed and quite frankly a angry that I forked out this much for an app that doesn’t work. I cannot access any of the training modules (I’m still blocked out.) I’ve messaged the team for support so see how goes.

### 1/5 — Modules Not Working

*2022-01-10*

When I click on the modules, which I paid for through the subscription, the modules will not load.

**Developer response:** The module detail is all in the questions, so you will have access to all content. However, we don't want users to passively read through content because that is not effective. Users must work hard to answer questions in order to embed knowledge into long-term memory.

### 1/5 — Worst app I’ve ever encountered

*2020-12-07*

It claims to NOT be a quiz app but it starts off that way as soon as you install and run it. It overrides the iOS sound volume settings and plays loud sounds even though I’ve turned down the volume to zero. It has one sound setting that it doesn’t allow me to turn off(the option is disabled). Pure piece of crap. Stay away.

**Developer response:** Hi swrao,

I'm sorry you had issues with the sound, I'm sure we can troubleshoot this for you if you send us a support email through the app. It's not a complaint we've had from others.

The app uses the quiz function to assess your starting base of knowledge at the very beginning. The core learning element to the app works in a very different way, and this is how users can master the content, embedding it into their long-term memory. Quizzing on its own is not a very effective way to learn large bodies of content.

All the best,
FYE Team

### 1/5 — Great App but...

*2020-06-21*

Have really enjoyed this app, I paid the extra $ for all the modules but upon last update, I lost all the paid modules
I didn’t think there was a time limit on them because there are so many and it’s such an in depth app
Again, this is a great app and enjoy and would be 5 stars
But if I got pump $10 in all the time to only get so far on these modules, then not worth it
If this is an error then I’ll adjust rating....

That was my review over a month ago
Since, I reached out to tell them about the issue
Was told they’ll look into it
I’ve sent emails stating I don’t care that they restore my status to just allow me to continue to use the app with modules I PAID for. I sent multiple emails to no avail, even stating just open up the modules for me to start over... nothing
I guess this company feels they think they can just take peoples $ and not provide what was sold

It WAS a great app and for those with no issues, congrats... just sad they messed up and don’t want to confront the issue

**Developer response:** Dear BlueLotusJC13,

Firstly, apologies for the experience you have had. This is an issue only a few users have had and we have tried to solve it by troubleshooting and releasing new versions of the app.

Could I check that you sent a message via email support? I can't see a message from BlueLotusJC13 but the message may not have come up with that username. I can assure you and everyone else using the app that we do confront the technical issues users are facing; very occasionally it is difficult to solve remotely without trying to replicate the exact issue on another device.

Would you mind contacting us via email support again and I will take it from there.

Many thanks

### 1/5 — Terrible navigation

*2019-04-08*

It’s not intuitive.

## Most praised reviews (10 highest-rated)

### 5/5 — Good practice

*2024-06-02*

It’s been years since I did my exam however I work in wine but only French so this is a great way to keep up to date and it shows me how far I’ve slipped

### 5/5 — Awesome App!

*2022-02-01*

Fantastic app - really like the way it remembers what I’m struggling to learn and then reminds me. My knowledge of wine has grown exponentially in a short time and I’ve enjoyed dropping some facts into conversations with my friends! Highly recommend!

### 5/5 — Great app to study on the fly

*2019-10-23*

Just downloaded it went through it once. Good app to help you finesse your knowledge on wine. Surprised there is no Germany or Alsace modules. But great app. I use it to quiz myself on the fly.

**Developer response:** Dear Dmro1994,

Thank you for the review and feedback. Riesling wine is popular so we'll definitely get some modules for the Alsace region up in due course.

### 5/5 — Useful and educational Ap

*2019-09-08*

Really enjoy this ap. Really think I’m learning a bit about wine. I wish there was a way to sync between devices, other than that, great ap. Thanks!

### 5/5 — Great app

*2019-04-20, version 2.703*

Great learning tool

### 5/5 — Very useful med-long-term

*2019-04-12*

Very useful app. I used it for 2 days free before paying the subscription and now 2 days since. I like the learning style it uses.
The full content is intermediate+ so maybe be aware of that if you are just starting out. Though you can switch on/off modules to tailor the questions.

There is a vast range of content here that is only accessible through their learning platform. This is not read at leisure, or binge quiz. It does make a great partner to a proper reference book/course. Again, I like the style and the repetition of questions, it does seem to be quite intuitive based on your answers (if you’re honest in your answers of course) so far.

I can see myself using this for the full subscription at least.

Overall, recommend fully subscribing if you think you can maintain interest as an enthusiastic hobby. If you’re doing WSET 3 or 4 think this is a great additional study tool.

### 5/5 — Great learning tool

*2019-04-04*

Awesome sauce. Has got me curious when I go out to drink wine. As a beginner, it’s really nice to see bottles of wines with certain things on them that you learnt by using the app

### 5/5 — Fun and educational

*2019-03-31, version 2.703*

If you want to know more about wine and winemaking, this is the app for you!

### 5/5 — Finally, A Great Wine Education App

*2019-02-21*

There have been a few attempts at Apps like this, but none that come close to this version. It is streets ahead in the breadth of questions it asks, and it really helps you gain knowledge. The interface is clean & intuitive, and the mechanism it uses to help you learn is really effective. I’m not yet at the point where I need to pay for extra modules, but can see myself getting there soon.

Only things to be aware of - the app requires you to be honest with yourself, so is only really useful if you actually want to learn (not just score!). And it’s not really for beginners either - you’ll need a basic level of knowledge for this to really be useful, otherwise you won’t even really know where to begin.

But if you’re interested in wine already, and you want to broaden your knowledge, this is definitely the app for you.

**Developer response:** Hi Asaldo,
Thanks for the generous feedback - we really appreciate you taking the time to share your opinion. We're delighted that you've found the app to be useful and hope it continues to be.
Regards
The Team @ Feed Your Elephant

### 5/5 — Lots of questions for free, good value for £5

*2019-01-05*

Lots to be learned from this app, which isn’t as much a quiz as a set of wine knowledge flash cards. Plenty of repetition means the knowledge sticks in your brain. I do wish there was a choice to answer a bunch of questions faster though, to revise for a test for example! I can’t see the “demo” option which the faq mentions either. Apart from these areas it’s a great little app and worth downloading- even the free content will keep you busy for days!
