## What is Decibel Meter?

A sound level meter that uses the microphone your iPhone or iPad already has. Free to download.

FREE
• Live dB with a gauge, a 60-second chart, a held peak and MIN / AVG (LAeq) / MAX while you record.
• Frequency weighting A, C or Z and Fast or Slow response, like a hand-held meter.
• Noise dose mode: NIOSH or OSHA dose, TWA, projected 8-hour dose and time left, always on the A scale.
• Recordings saved to History with notes, tags, place and search.
• Noise alert at 85 dB, a table of everyday sounds and a hearing-safety guide.
• PDF report in your language, CSV, image card and text summary.

NEIGHBOUR AND WORKPLACE NOISE LOGS
Record a session, add a note and the place, then export a PDF with date, duration, weighting, minimum, average, maximum, time above 85 dB and the level chart. It is a personal record, not legal evidence.

PREMIUM
Weekly, monthly, yearly or a one-time Lifetime purchase. Removes ads and adds a year of statistics, session comparison, the noise map, longer video with dB overlay, a custom alert threshold, background monitoring and extra themes. Free users can watch an optional ad to unlock a single export.

HONEST ABOUT THE LIMITS
A phone microphone is made for voice, differs between models and squashes very loud sound, so the loudest readings come out low. The app adds a built-in correction; calibrate against a reference meter for better numbers. It is not a certified Class 1 or Class 2 meter, a dosimeter or a hearing test.

PRIVACY
No account. Sound is analysed in memory and not stored; the Video tab records audio only inside videos you choose to record. The free version shows Google ads and may ask for tracking permission; location is used only to tag a recording, if you allow it.

### 1/5 — え？

*2022-03-28, version 1.2.0*

ダウンロードしたけど試したら英語だし、使い方が分からない、もっとシンプルにして欲しい。☆0だわ。

### 1/5 — 計測しない

*2020-05-17, version 1.0*

近くで洗濯機が動いている状況でも-70に張り付いてました。マイクがオンになってないのかと確認しましたがそんなこともなく、他のアプリではちゃんと計測してくれたので即アンインストールしました。

## Version history (last 5 releases)

### 1.8.0 — 2026-10-18

Teachers: the meter now has a Classroom view. A full-screen green, yellow or red light follows the room's volume, with the level in large type and the time the room spent in red.

### 1.7.0 — 2026-09-17

• The readings were labelled dBA but the app was measuring without any weighting at all. A-weighting to IEC 61672 is now actually applied, and so is proper Fast time weighting
• The session average is now a real LAeq instead of an arithmetic mean of decibels
• Daily dose used an 85 dBA threshold instead of the 80 dBA the NIOSH standard asks for: a full shift at 84 dBA showed 0% when it is 79%
• A phone call used to stop the meter for good while the screen still said it was measuring
• Automatic calibration could hang forever, and a legitimate 0.0 dB offset was thrown away
• Two features on the purchase screen were not real: one is free for everyone and the other does not exist
• The whole professional mode was in English in every language
• The app now says plainly that a phone microphone is not a certified sound level meter

### 1.6.0 — 2026-08-18

• New free Exposure mode: session LAeq alongside the live SPL reading
• NIOSH REL and OSHA PEL dosimeter — accumulated dose %, 8-hour TWA, projected 8-hour dose and time remaining at the current level
• Calibration offset (±15 dB) so you can match a reference meter
• Exposure sessions saved on your device, with CSV export

### 1.5.0 — 2026-08-08

• Bug fixes and performance improvements

### 1.4.0 — 2026-08-06

• Improved translations across all supported languages
• Bug fixes and performance improvements
