## What is Decibels?

Decibels is a sound level meter that remembers what you measured.

Point it at the noise, press start, press stop — and the reading stays. Average (Leq), maximum, minimum, duration and the full level trace, saved automatically, every time. No account, no subscription, and nothing leaves your phone unless you send it.

Decibels stores your measurements on your device and nowhere else. It records no audio — only the level — and asks for no location, no account and no identifiers.

A note on accuracy: a phone microphone is not a calibrated instrument. Decibels is honest about that. Use the calibration offset against a reference meter for absolute readings, and treat it as an excellent relative instrument otherwise.

Measurements now keep themselves.

Stop the meter and the reading is saved — average, maximum, minimum, duration and the full level trace. There's no Save button to forget: it's already in History, behind the clock in the corner. Export any measurement as a CSV to send to a landlord, a contractor or a colleague, with the calibration and weighting it was taken under included, so the numbers mean something to whoever receives them.

Four numbers, not one.
The level right now, large, with the running average (Leq), maximum and minimum beneath it, and how long you've been measuring.

LCpeak, for alarms and impulses.
An average describes a room. It doesn't describe a fire alarm or a slammed door. LCpeak is the true peak, measured the way sound level meters measure impulses — and if the input clips, Decibels says so instead of quietly reporting a number that's really a floor.

A clearer graph.
Ten seconds of history on a fixed timeline, drawn as a smooth curve that never invents a peak the microphone didn't hear. It no longer flattens out above 100 dB.

Fixed: the needle sat off its pivot on larger iPhones, and starting the meter without microphone access could close the app — it now explains what's wrong.
