The Decodable Readers Australia books support a systematic approach of learning to read. This approach ensures kids are given the “right-fit” book. Decodable, or phonic readers, only contain words made up of the sounds a child has learnt. Within each level in the Decodable Readers Australia Series, a new group of sounds is introduced. As children move through each level the sounds progress from simple to complex. The Decodable Readers Australia – Level 5 books introduce the sounds ai (trail), ay (play), ea (beach), ee (tree), ie (pie), igh (sight), oa (boat), ow (slow), ew (few), ue (cue). Our Level 6 books introduce the sounds oi (soil), oy (boy), oo (book), oo (moon), ou (loud), ow (cow), er (term), ir (stir), ur (turn), ar (star), or (for). All the words in each of the 20 books in Level 5/6 are made up of these sounds and those introduced in Level 1, 2, 3 and 4 along with minimal sight words. After having mastered the Level 1, 2, 3 and 4 sounds and the reading skills of blending and tracking, children should have gained the confidence to read Australian stories with new words and more text on each page. Each story in Level 5/6 can be enjoyed by listening to the professional audio or read aloud with the support of tapping and hearing the word if required. The audio function can be controlled independently within each page. Both parents and teachers can continue to support children with vocab and comprehension development through using the post-reading activities provided within each story. We love these Decodable readers ### 1/5 — Unreasonable price hike *2021-02-26* I was extremely shocked and disappointed at the 5x price hike on this app. It was reasonably priced at $5.99 per level. I had been purchasing them as my child progressed. We reached level 5/6 only to discover they are now $24.99 per level. I feel this is an unjustifiable price hike in one go. I know it will stop me from purchasing this product further and I certainly won’t be recommending it to others at this new price. Very disappointed!!!!! Thank goodness other items do not increase 5 fold in one foul swoop. ### 5/5 — Decodable Readers Level 1-6 *2020-08-03* I found these books in our local library last year and I told our school about them. They found that these books fit into their phonics program so well that they have purchased the whole series for kids needing extension work. The books get more complex so gradually it helps the reader improve while gaining confidence at the same time. When we went into lockdown because of Covid 19 I was devastated we couldn’t borrow the books from the library any more. Then we found them in app format here. I love the app format as the whole series is complete and we have not missed a book from Level 4-6. We are nearly finished level 6 and now we are wondering where to go from there so we can keep up with daily readers. If there are more please let us know.
