Dedup2 cleans up and enriches your photo library — and your media never leaves your device. Detection, quality scoring, and compression all run on your iPhone using Apple's on-device Vision. FIND DUPLICATES Burst shots, retakes, and accidental copies pile up fast. Dedup2 uses Apple Vision feature prints to detect photos that look alike — not just exact copies — and groups them into clusters you can review at a glance. Unlike the Duplicates album in Photos, which only surfaces exact matches, Dedup2 finds visually similar shots: burst frames, retakes from a half-step to the side, and edited or re-saved copies Photos treats as separate images. • Adjustable sensitivity — High, Medium, or Low — to control how similar photos must be before they're grouped • Automatic quality ranking marks the weaker photo in each pair, using megapixels, subject focus, face quality, and aesthetic score • Auto-select as you scroll: the lower-quality photo is marked for you, so cleaning up is just tap-and-confirm • Favourites are protected: anything you've starred in Photos is badged and never auto-selected for deletion — and you can favourite a photo from inside Dedup2, which clears any pending deletion mark on it • Browse duplicates scoped to a specific year or album to tackle your library in pieces • Find duplicate videos too (experimental): a Photos/Videos switch groups near-identical clips — re-shares, repeated takes, 4K/1080p exports of one source — and flags the weaker clip by resolution, duration, and bitrate COMPRESS LARGE PHOTOS AND VIDEOS Modern cameras produce enormous files. Dedup2 lists the photos and videos taking up the most space and resizes them to a sensible target — recovering storage while keeping quality high. • Photos: choose a target of 4, 8, 12, or 24 MP • Videos: choose a target resolution of 720p, 1080p, or 4K — switch between Photos and Videos in the Compress tab • Sort by potential savings, resolution, file size, or date • All metadata is preserved — GPS location, timestamps, color profiles, and EXIF data stay intact • Compressed copies are saved to your library; originals move to Recently Deleted BACKFILL MISSING LOCATIONS Screenshots, downloads, AirDrops, and photos taken with Location Services off often have no GPS. Dedup2 finds them and borrows coordinates from another photo taken around the same time — so a GPS-less shot inherits where you were. • Configurable matching window, from ±5 minutes up to ±4 hours • Every suggestion is reviewable: compare target and donor photos, see the time gap, and preview the proposed spot on a map before applying • Sort by closest match or photo date, and scope to a year or album • Screenshots are excluded by default • Reversible — a filled-in location can be reverted in-app from your fill history, or in Photos, at any time PRIVATE BY DESIGN No account, no cloud. Analysis, quality scoring, and compression all happen locally — your media is never uploaded. The Location feature uses Apple Maps for place names and map previews, sending a photo's coordinates (never the photo itself) to Apple, like the built-in Photos app. SAFE AND REVERSIBLE Nothing is deleted or changed without your confirmation. Removed originals go to Recently Deleted (recoverable for 30 days), and filled-in locations can be reverted at any time. WORKS WITH iCLOUD PHOTOS If your library lives in iCloud, Dedup2 can fetch iCloud-only items so they're analyzed too — not just what's already on your device. Video and Live Photo embedded metadata stays unchanged for now. • Metadata copies are saved in Edit History alongside location fills, so you can restore the target's previous selected values later — even after restarting the app. • Manual location fill and metadata copy now share one clearer, consistent two-mode workflow. • Smoother duplicate review on large libraries: results now load in small batches as you approach the end instead of handing the entire saved list to the screen at once; thumbnails are reused when you scroll back, and rapid auto-select feedback stays responsive without overwhelming the system. • Fixed a startup crash that could affect large saved duplicate result sets on a real device. • Fixed Compress reanalyzing unchanged photos and videos after every app restart when Photos did not provide a modification date. As always, everything runs on-device — your photos and videos are never uploaded. ### 4.4 — 2026-07-21 What's new since 2.15: • Made for iPad and Mac: Dedup2 now uses the full width of the window instead of a narrow centred column, the full-screen photo viewer fills the whole screen when you tap a duplicate, and in landscape a sidebar keeps every section one tap away — tucking itself away in portrait for a roomier view. • Much faster Duplicates on large iCloud libraries: if most of your photos live in iCloud (Optimize iPhone Storage), Dedup2 remembers what it already found and only re-checks a group once its iCloud photos have downloaded — so opening Duplicates stays fast instead of restarting from scratch every launch. • Favourites, protected: photos and videos you've favourited in Photos are badged with a heart in your duplicate sets. Before deleting, if the batch includes a favourite, Dedup2 tells you and offers a one-tap "Delete non-favourites only" — so a keeper is never swept up by a quick scroll-and-confirm. • More control over photo compression: choose a 12 MP, 24 MP, or Custom target — plus a new Original mode that finds edited photos still holding their untouched original and reclaims that space by flattening them (your edit is kept, the redundant original removed). • Smarter video compression: a new "Estimated savings per minute" sort puts the clips that free the most space for the least playback time first, so short high-resolution videos rise to the top. • Choose your thumbnail size: a new Small / Medium / Large control in Settings sets how large thumbnails appear across every tab, so you can scan more at a glance or see more detail. • Location backfill for videos: review videos missing GPS separately from photos with a Photos / Videos switch, and skip panoramas, slo-mo and time-lapse from suggestions. As always, everything runs on-device — your photos and videos are never uploaded — and deletions go to Recently Deleted so they're easy to recover. ### 2.15 — 2026-07-14 What's new since 2.11: • Dedup2 Pro, on us, if you bought the original Dedup: keep the paid Dedup app installed and Dedup2 unlocks Pro automatically — no purchase, no code to enter. Thank you for being an early supporter. • Protect Favourites: photos and videos you've favourited in Photos are badged with a star and are never auto-selected for deletion — so a keeper you care about can't be swept up by a quick scroll-and-confirm. On by default; turn it off in the Duplicates settings. • Favourite right from Dedup2: tap a duplicate to open it and star it in place. Favouriting also clears any pending deletion mark on that photo, so "I want to keep this" always wins. • Duplicates results, redesigned: sets are grouped under day headers, tiles reflow into a grid sized to your screen instead of scrolling sideways, and thumbnails are sharper — easier to compare at a glance. • Fixed: auto-select on scroll sometimes didn't visibly mark the photos it had selected.
