## What is Deep Cut?

Deep Cut is the vinyl-first listening journal for collectors who want a real shelf, an honest spin log, and stats that respect sides, needles, and crates. This isn't generic “minutes played” from a streaming app: it’s a deep dive into your physical ritual.

YOUR COLLECTION
• Build a shelf you actually browse: Artist, title, year, label, and artwork that looks right on the grid.
• Add albums fast: Search releases and pull in cover art and track info so you spend less time typing.
• Sync with Discogs: Connect your account to bring your entire library over in seconds. Review matches as they arrive to ensure the right pressing lands on your shelf.
• High-capacity engine: Deep Cut is optimized for the "heavy rotation" collectors. Whether you have 50 records or 2,000, the shelf stays smooth and snappy.
• Choose artwork your way: Use crisp catalog images or original Discogs artwork. You can even pinch to zoom on album art to appreciate the details.

LOG SPINS THE WAY YOU REALLY PLAY
• Real listening history: Tap an album, set the date, and capture notes that become a listening diary you’ll actually want to read months later.
• Sides and Needles: When track times exist, log full albums or specific sides to get listen-time estimates that match vinyl reality.
• Open-ended sessions: When timing isn't available, pick a session length or leave it open-ended.
• Tag your spins: Organize by mood, room, or genre so your history stays searchable.

STATS & INSIGHTS (BUILT FOR VINYL)
• Visualize your habit: See your spin rhythm, total listening minutes, and a yearly heat map of the days you actually showed up for the music.
• Deep breakdowns: Spot streaks and trends, and browse your top artists, albums, and genres.
• Deep Cut Plus: For crate-keepers who want the long view. Unlock all-time ranges, deeper rankings, per-record stats, and power-sorting by spin count or playtime.

CAN’T PICK WHAT TO SPIN?
• Shelf Roulette: Let the app pick a record when decision fatigue hits.
• Side Picker: A new side-selection tool helps you decide exactly which side of the wax to drop the needle on first.

STAY IN SYNC
• Private and Secure: Sign in with Apple to keep your journal private across iPhone and iPad. Your shelf and spins stay tied to your Apple ID.
• Local or Cloud: Start local on one device and sign in later when you’re ready to lift the crate into the cloud.

A NOTE FROM THE DEVELOPER
Deep Cut was built because I wanted a better way to see the "data" behind my record collection without the clunkiness of old databases. I’m constantly working under the hood to make this the best companion for your turntable. If you’re an early adopter, thank you for helping me build this.

### 1.3 — 2026-05-19

I heard your feedback on large collections, so I spent a lot of time under the hood for this update. Deep Cut should now feel snappy even if you have thousands of albums and years of spin history. Browsing your shelf, checking your stats, and scrolling through your past listens is much smoother now.

What’s new:

A more reliable Discogs sync
Importing your collection is now much more transparent. You can see titles and cover art arrive in real-time and you can pause or resume the sync whenever you need to. I also added a way to "enrich" your whole library from the Settings menu to pull in full tracklists and high-quality artwork for your entire shelf at once.

The "What should I play?" wheel
When you use the roulette wheel to pick a record, a new side picker will help you decide exactly which side of the wax to drop the needle on.

Better matching and artwork
You can now pinch to zoom on album art on any record screen. If the app doesn’t find the right Apple Music match automatically, you can now search the catalog yourself from the edit and sync screens to get it exactly right. I also refined the stats and leaderboards so the artwork better matches the specific artists you've been spinning.
