I have been searching for an updated app that will buy have had no luck. I had to keep my old IPhone in order the be able to control the timer. I just upgraded from an iPhone 6 to an iPhone 11. I bought an adapter to go from lightning to 3.5mm. I tried to change the times and I keep getting a message that says I need to turn on notifications even though they are on. Since I can’t change the times, I will have to replace the switch with another brand. ### 1/5 — Did not work *2019-05-12, version 1.6* It did not work out of the box new. I followed the directions very carefully I have an iPhone 6s. I spent almost an hour troubleshooting. It still doesn’t work. Got new iPhone XR and ordered a cord to fit. Nothing. App says I need to “plug it in to electrical”. The programming of the switch is now useless. I can still turn it on and off manually but.... it turns on and off based on an old program from the droid app. It’s not just useless but a nuisance bc it turns on during the day. Super easy to program using the phone, etc. The only reason I got this switch was because my last Defiant switch burned out. I only use the disk-to-dawn feature. This app can not access iPhone location services, so automatic dusk to dawn is impossible. I programmed current dusk to dawn, but it changes a few minutes everyday, and I’m not going to reprogram every few months... I’ll be replacing with a Leviton. ### 2/5 — Needs work *2017-11-09, version 1.4* I have my light timer set to random during night time. It randomly comes on, it also turns on during the day time. Unable to set the time on the light, so i’m not sure what time zone or location its using. ### 1/5 — Who thinks a single-use countdown timer is a good idea? *2017-06-02, version 1.3* This device had the potential to be the ideal bathroom exhaust fan timer. My thinking: set up a countdown timer for, say 15 minutes, started by turning the switch on. It would work this way every time unless I decided to change it. No other timer would be easier to use for this purpose. The manufacturer's thinking: make the countdown timer work one time only, with each use programmed and started by your smartphone. It has no connection with the physical switch. In other words, the countdown timer function is absolutely worthless and for me, this thing is nothing more than an expensive switch. If this can be corrected I'll gladly change my rating to 5 stars and recommend it to others. ## Most critical reviews (10 lowest-rated) ### 1/5 — Timer stopped working *2023-01-02, version 1.6* This app needs update. It is so outdated. It crashes trying to set a program. ### 1/5 — Poor app *2022-12-27, version 1.6* App fails and closes when trying to set the dawn to dusk and clear features. Tried downloading the latest version and get the same results. Using an iPhone 11. Please fix your app so I don’t have to swap out the switches for another product. When your power goes out the timer resets and Defiant hasn’t updated the app to work with current iPhone operating system. I saw someone else say this was a nuisance - perfectly said. Our power went out and since then, the timing schedule is off. Lights turn on during the day and off at night...and there’s nothing we can do to fix it. Works great. ### 5/5 — Works *2017-05-27, version 1.3* I installed 3 light switches to control outside lights and programmed all 3 for sunset to sunrise without issue. Note: you have to turn the headphone volume all the way up, not the ringer volume. Also, the sunset to sunrise does not automatically change throughout the year, which is a major defect in my mind. Works with the iphone6 and 6+. Have not had a chance to try it with the iPhone 7 lightning adapter, but I'm assuming it will also work. ### 5/5 — Works Great *2016-12-04, version 1.0* Just installed 2nd unit. Works exactly as described on package. Yes, needs a Neutral as stated. Yes, may need to turn up volume on iPhone, 6s in my case. Keeps accurate with sunset/sunrise and works well with LED. Old timer was passing minimal current and LED was dimly lit all the time, not with this switch. Curious if the iPhone 7 earphone adapter will work. This sure beats programming the Intermatic with the tiny buttons and screen. ### 4/5 — Switch and App work perfect *2019-06-16, version 1.6* I use the App on my iPhone 5 and my 7. Have lightning to headphone adapter but the app doesn’t recognize the defiant switch. If you just bought the switch, take it back ### 3/5 — Timer switch with iphoneX *2017-11-26, version 1.4* Worked as expected with iPhone 6s with a earplug. The new iPhone X does not have a earplug port. I bought a lightening to earplug port adaptor to see if it would work but it does not. The plug says it works with ios11 and older 10.3 versions. ### 3/5 — Basic switch timer! *2017-10-01, version 1.4* When I purchased this timer, I thought that I could control it with my iPhone. The ONLY thing the app will do is setup the programming, unless you want to leave your device connected via the 2' long data cord. The previous timer I had contained a digital display and was difficult to program so I thought I'd try this. Installation took a few minutes since I had to differentiate wires to/from the light and breaker box. Programming was easy, just make sure earphone volume is full up. The app wants to always access your device so "it can determine dusk to dawn at your location." I don't care where I am for the lights, just where the timer is.
