I put them throughout my home. They are spendy but it was a long term investment I thought I would enjoy. Was I wrong. The app stinks. It is hard to understand. Too complex for the average guy. And for a woman like me it is worse. I am constantly getting disconnected from the app. Pairing is a joke. Every time my speakers won’t start up I have to drag them to my router to pair. I wish someone that cared within this company would pay attention to these reviews. For the last two years, every time I would try to use the app, it would constantly be “reconnecting” ...only working for a minute or two before reconnecting once again. I actually stopped using the app altogether, turning the functionality of my houseful of speakers, nearly useless (unless I plugged a phone directly onto one of them via mini audio jack). I upgraded my WiFi system to Orbi last month and have been successfully using the Def Tech app ever since! I’m so happy to hear music streaming through my entire house on the same note once again! Having said that, the system does have to “reconnect” every once in a while and I’m not sure why. Also, I regularly need to log back into my SiriusXM account when I start up the app, which is a little frustrating. Once suggestion for improvement I have for the app is that it would be great to control the volume for each speaker via a numerical system, say 1 - 40. Where you could turn the kitchen speaker up one tick and the soundbar down two ticks. Currently, the speakers each use a slide bar to change the volume they don’t have fine attenuation control (i.e., you may move one right a millimeter and nothing happens, then right another millimeter and volume jumps up 20 decibels.) All of my speakers would greatly benefit from finer volume attenuation control (especially in the very low volumes) and replacing the slide bar with a numeric control would also be greatly appreciated. Also, I agree with the requests to add Apple Music as a music service. I often need to close the app and reopen it in order to access the music apps. It’s definitely not user friendly and seems very cryptic. I really enjoy the sound quality but the connectivity is a pain. (I would appreciate knowing if there is a fix to this problem) ### 4/5 — Easy surround sound setup *2019-08-23, version 4.84.181121* First, I don’t use the DT speakers for streaming music apps. I have the W Studio Micro, and two W7 speakers, for a surround sound system with my 65” OLED TV. While the included instructions aren’t great (that’s why I took away a star) a quick online search takes you to support videos. After connecting the speakers to WiFi, simply go to the Settings, select Surround Sound, and its a pretty straight forward walk through from there. Overall time < 30 minutes. Also, sounds great! Nice job Definitive Technology. ### 2/5 — Great sound terrible app *2019-06-15, version 4.84.181121* The sound is great but it constantly has problems when I try to play Sirius XX through it where it doesn’t download the menu. While playing other music it will stop at times where I have to go back and start everything up again. The sound is outstanding but terrible software. Very frustrating ### 4/5 — Be Patient, Be Patient, Be Patient *2019-03-26, version 4.84.181121* As everyone knows, Definitive speakers sound great. This is my first purchase of a micro sound bar, 2 W9’s and 2 W7’s speakers. My advice is to read the small little setup instruction book and copy the setup instructions from the app into the book. Only plug in 1 speaker at a time with the sound bar and setup that speaker. Then install 1 speaker at a time. If you want surround sound (which I use with the sound bar and 2 W7’s, setup that last. And when you have a new version software, be prepared for the update to mess up the setup. And sometimes by unplugging all the speakers and then plugging in the sound bar first and then all the speakers, you will be all setup again. When your Internet drops, you might have to plug in the speakers again. Once the speakers are set up, it is a great sounding system. ### 4/5 — Works well *2018-12-12, version 4.84.181121* It does what it’s supposed to do. Constantly loses connection with sound bar. Very frustrating. It’s very important to follow the instructions closely because the system is not really plug and play. DON’T WASTE YOUR MONEY/TIME! *2022-12-19, version 5.11.190918* Read all the reviews before consideration of this product. Dreaded the day I bought this. It’s been nothing but a let down. Frustrated with a whole host of issues listed on others reviews! Nothing has worked right ever since I got it and I received no help from their support. They blamed it on an Internet issue which is clearly not the case. When we have people over for parties I recommend they never buy this product! ### 1/5 — Less than One Star *2022-11-23, version 5.11.190918* Play fi is just bad. It’s 2022 and this app feels like something from 1992. Clunky and most of the Apple Songs on my playlist aren’t compatible. They shot themselves in the foot not making any app on your phone discover your speaker as an output. 10 steps to play a song when on other apps it one click. With the money you pay for the speaker (which are quality) their app and wifi system is worthless. I have had to completely ditch using one of the 2 W7s that I have because the wifi connectivity just stopped working and it's off warranty. The connectivity on the one W7 that does still work is awful and needs to be constantly reset. AVOID AVOID AVOID! Definitive doesn't stand by their products. I tested this system with the W7; W9; and orinal Wsoundbar and sub woofer for 3 years a small one family home with 1,000mbs internet speed. The speakers are okay for being WIRELESS speakers... that is if you plug it with a cable. Horrible products in their wireless line. Previously you would need to go through the annoying setup process every time you wanted to use the app. Now, the app won’t recognize that the phone is on a wireless network. Since I pay for a Pandora subscription, this is my primary streaming music app and now I can’t use it with my DF system (which consists of enough speakers for my whole house). I bought the w amp for well over $500 and I was told that it was the best WiFi amp money could buy by the sales rep. The concept is great. But the app having so many problems is a dealbreaker. It has to be reliable and it freezes up on me 90% or the time. That really stinks when you are having a party. Surely the bugs could easily be worked out in the app. The other reviewer pointed out that he noticed the app hadn’t been updated in 3 months. Whoa! That is really u fortunate. I’m finding myself wishing I would have gone with the Soros system instead. So unfortunate. If you guys could fix the bugs in this app ASAP, we could move forward and be good partners. It’s all about word of mouth and as professionals, we have a lot of influence. I would love to switch from being a very discouraged W amp/Definitive Tech user full of remorse to a Brand Ambassador for this product. But, after spending $1000+ on the wireless surround sound speaker set up, I expect great software implementation and regular updates. But, unfortunately this is not the case, and needs major improvements for both the apps and speaker firmware, as well as regular updates; the apps haven’t been updated in a minimum of 3 months. Excellent hardware deserves excellent software, but this is not the case for Definitive. The app itself attempts to walk the user through it, but some steps aren’t clear—like how to get the white SLOW pulse. I still have no idea for what the other faster pulses are used. This app is complex, with its numerous options available to the user, but I enjoy having the freedom to connect my DT speakers the way I want and listen to my libraries and playlists how I want. And, when there is a technical difficulty (like a disconnect), there are options to troubleshoot the problem and reconnect. Again, the complexity of this app seems purposeful and allows the user the freedom to choose from more options than the ordinary app. I am able to walk through my house and hear my music in various rooms without running wires in the attic or crawl space. Using the WiFi in my house as it’s network works very well and is satisfying. Unfortunately the latest update of the iOS app renders all of those practically useless. Tidal doesn't work at all and other sources fail after one or two songs. Thankfully the free Windows application still functions as intended.
