### 3/5 — Worst App and Support

*2022-02-25, version 5.11.190918*

I wish I had never invested in my W7 speakers. I put them throughout my home. They are spendy but it was a long term investment I thought I would enjoy.
Was I wrong. The app stinks. It is hard to understand. Too complex for the average guy. And for a woman like me it is worse.
I am constantly getting disconnected from the app.
Pairing is a joke. Every time my speakers won’t start up I have to drag them to my router to pair.
I wish someone that cared within this company would pay attention to these reviews.
Seriously I am an unhappy customer.

### 3/5 — 👍

*2022-01-30, version 5.11.190918*

Is ok but not easy to use

### 2/5 — Definitive is not consistent

*2020-09-17, version 5.11.190918*

Definitive is not consistent and constantly requires me to reconnect to my WiFi. I have never been able to get my system to connect through my TV. I would not buy Definitive again

### 4/5 — Good but could be better

*2020-06-22, version 5.11.190918*

Since upgrading my WiFi system to Orbi, this app is actually working again! For the last two years, every time I would try to use the app, it would constantly be “reconnecting” ...only working for a minute or two before reconnecting once again. I actually stopped using the app altogether, turning the functionality of my houseful of speakers, nearly useless (unless I plugged a phone directly onto one of them via mini audio jack). I upgraded my WiFi system to Orbi last month and have been successfully using the Def Tech app ever since! I’m so happy to hear music streaming through my entire house on the same note once again!
Having said that, the system does have to “reconnect” every once in a while and I’m not sure why.
Also, I regularly need to log back into my SiriusXM account when I start up the app, which is a little frustrating.
Once suggestion for improvement I have for the app is that it would be great to control the volume for each speaker via a numerical system, say 1 - 40. Where you could turn the kitchen speaker up one tick and the soundbar down two ticks. Currently, the speakers each use a slide bar to change the volume they don’t have fine attenuation control (i.e., you may move one right a millimeter and nothing happens, then right another millimeter and volume jumps up 20 decibels.)
All of my speakers would greatly benefit from finer volume attenuation control (especially in the very low volumes) and replacing the slide bar with a numeric control would also be greatly appreciated.
Also, I agree with the requests to add Apple Music as a music service. That is a requirement in this day and age.

### 2/5 — Navigating through app is cryptic

*2020-06-19, version 5.11.190918*

I find navigating through this app confusing and extremely frustrating in order to find music and radio apps. I often need to close the app and reopen it in order to access the music apps. It’s definitely not user friendly and seems very cryptic. Why is TuneIn Radio not available?

### 4/5 — Good app, great speakers.

*2020-03-01, version 5.11.190918*

Good app, just wished it supported Audible.

### 3/5 — Ok

*2020-01-06, version 5.11.190918*

Great speakers but problematic software

### 3/5 — Connectivity

*2019-12-25, version 5.11.190918*

I’ve had the speaker about 4 years and every time I use it I have to reconnect (turn off wi-if and reset and/or reset at the speaker). I really enjoy the sound quality but the connectivity is a pain.

(I would appreciate knowing if there is a fix to this problem)

### 4/5 — Easy surround sound setup

*2019-08-23, version 4.84.181121*

First, I don’t use the DT speakers for streaming music apps. I have the W Studio Micro, and two W7 speakers, for a surround sound system with my 65” OLED TV. While the included instructions aren’t great (that’s why I took away a star) a quick online search takes you to support videos. After connecting the speakers to WiFi, simply go to the Settings, select Surround Sound, and its a pretty straight forward walk through from there. Overall time < 30 minutes. Also, sounds great! Nice job Definitive Technology.

### 2/5 — Great sound terrible app

*2019-06-15, version 4.84.181121*

The sound is great but it constantly has problems when I try to play Sirius XX through it where it doesn’t download the menu. While playing other music it will stop at times where I have to go back and start everything up again. The sound is outstanding but terrible software. Very frustrating

### 4/5 — Be Patient, Be Patient, Be Patient

*2019-03-26, version 4.84.181121*

As everyone knows, Definitive speakers sound great. This is my first purchase of a micro sound bar, 2 W9’s and 2 W7’s speakers. My advice is to read the small little setup instruction book and copy the setup instructions from the app into the book. Only plug in 1 speaker at a time with the sound bar and setup that speaker. Then install 1 speaker at a time. If you want surround sound (which I use with the sound bar and 2 W7’s, setup that last. And when you have a new version software, be prepared for the update to mess up the setup. And sometimes by unplugging all the speakers and then plugging in the sound bar first and then all the speakers, you will be all setup again. When your Internet drops, you might have to plug in the speakers again. Once the speakers are set up, it is a great sounding system.

### 4/5 — Works well

*2018-12-12, version 4.84.181121*

It does what it’s supposed to do. There are unfortunately a few bugs and functionality issues but other than that it’s good.

### 4/5 — Getting better

*2018-09-02, version 4.74.180810*

After quite a long time of disappointment this app is finally getting reliable. I haven’t had a freeze up with it yet. The hardware is great. The software is catching up.

### 2/5 — App does not work consistently.

*2018-09-01, version 4.74.180810*

Agree with other reviewers that the speakers are great but the software controlling them is less than satisfactory.
Constantly loses connection with sound bar. Very frustrating. Previously used Sonos and would go back in a heartbeat because of the connectivity issues.

### 2/5 — Not compatible with Apple Music

*2018-08-15, version 4.41.180122*

Definitive Technology is using the Play Fi app with their own branding to maybe they can’t fix it but how is this IOS app NOT compatible with the Apple Music library even when the songs are downloaded on your phone? Incredibly frustrating! Other than that this app does its job well. The radio streaming is a nice bonus

### 4/5 — Works well, but must read instructions

*2018-08-12, version 4.41.180122*

I had no problems getting everything working, but all of my network equipment is generally new and updated. It’s very important to follow the instructions closely because the system is not really plug and play. Once you get it setup, everything is phenomenal!

## Most critical reviews (10 lowest-rated)

### 1/5 — Less than 1 star. DON’T WASTE YOUR MONEY/TIME!

*2022-12-19, version 5.11.190918*

Read all the reviews before consideration of this product. Dreaded the day I bought this. It’s been nothing but a let down. Frustrated with a whole host of issues listed on others reviews!
Nothing has worked right ever since I got it and I received no help from their support. They blamed it on an Internet issue which is clearly not the case.
When we have people over for parties I recommend they never buy this product!

### 1/5 — Less than One Star

*2022-11-23, version 5.11.190918*

Play fi is just bad. It’s 2022 and this app feels like something from 1992. Clunky and most of the Apple Songs on my playlist aren’t compatible. They shot themselves in the foot not making any app on your phone discover your speaker as an output. 10 steps to play a song when on other apps it one click. Had the app for two years with my Definitive speaker and they haven’t updated it at all. What a waste.

### 1/5 — Horrible App and Wifi connectivity

*2021-11-04, version 5.11.190918*

Absolute garbage. With the money you pay for the speaker (which are quality) their app and wifi system is worthless. I have had to completely ditch using one of the 2 W7s that I have because the wifi connectivity just stopped working and it's off warranty.

The connectivity on the one W7 that does still work is awful and needs to be constantly reset.

AVOID AVOID AVOID! Definitive doesn't stand by their products. Spend your money elsewhere, unless you plan on getting traditional Definitive speakers.

### 1/5 — This app is horrible

*2020-05-28, version 5.11.190918*

Their cheapest speakers are priced at $399; that’s how much they’ve seemed to invested into this app. The list goes on: nuisance to connect with the horrible Hi-Fi speaker system, problems playing music to speakers after they’ve finally been connected, music cutting off after thinking its finally working fine. I tested this system with the W7; W9; and orinal Wsoundbar and sub woofer for 3 years a small one family home with 1,000mbs internet speed. The speakers are okay for being WIRELESS speakers... that is if you plug it with a cable. Horrible products in their wireless line. Will never buy from Definitive Technology ever again.

### 1/5 — Garbage!!!

*2020-05-18, version 5.11.190918*

Do not buy!

The speakers all cut in and out like crazy! This is absolutely pointless. Only get if you plan on plugging into the Ethernet

### 1/5 — Don’t waste your time

*2019-10-12, version 4.84.181121*

The App consistently does not work and causes more headache than it is worth. Previously you would need to go through the annoying setup process every time you wanted to use the app. Now, the app won’t recognize that the phone is on a wireless network. The icing on the cake is that when you reach out to the company for support they do not take responsibility for the app, they refer you to the third party who actually built the app.

### 1/5 — junk technology

*2019-10-08, version 4.84.181121*

the speakers sound great. but that is pointless because the app NEVER works right. You will hate this thing - it was a complete waste of money! constant speakers dropping, music from siriusxm never available/ trouble fetching genres- whatever that means. Won’t play music I BOUGHT AND PAID for, i could go on. this system has become an expensive dust collector around our house. selling it all asap.

### 1/5 — Security certificate for Pandora

*2018-08-23, version 4.41.180122*

Since the last app update either DF or Play-fi failed to update their security certificate for Pandora. Since I pay for a Pandora subscription, this is my primary streaming music app and now I can’t use it with my DF system (which consists of enough speakers for my whole house). Wish the developers would implement a fix for this soon.

### 1/5 — App freezes up daily

*2018-07-10, version 4.41.180122*

I agree with the reviewer above. I bought the w amp for well over $500 and I was told that it was the best WiFi amp money could buy by the sales rep. The concept is great. But the app having so many problems is a dealbreaker. It has to be reliable and it freezes up on me 90% or the time. That really stinks when you are having a party. Surely the bugs could easily be worked out in the app. The other reviewer pointed out that he noticed the app hadn’t been updated in 3 months. Whoa! That is really u fortunate. I’m finding myself wishing I would have gone with the Soros system instead. So unfortunate. If you guys could fix the bugs in this app ASAP, we could move forward and be good partners. It’s all about word of mouth and as professionals, we have a lot of influence. I would love to switch from being a very discouraged W amp/Definitive Tech user full of remorse to a Brand Ambassador for this product. Please make it so.

### 1/5 — I feel like I got scammed on the software

*2018-05-01, version 4.41.180122*

I have no doubt that the speakers themselves are very good products. But, after spending $1000+ on the wireless surround sound speaker set up, I expect great software implementation and regular updates. But, unfortunately this is not the case, and needs major improvements for both the apps and speaker firmware, as well as regular updates; the apps haven’t been updated in a minimum of 3 months. Excellent hardware deserves excellent software, but this is not the case for Definitive. I feel like I got scammed on the software.

## Most praised reviews (10 highest-rated)

### 5/5 — The Best Music App

*2021-04-09, version 5.11.190918*

This is an AWESOME way to be connected to your favorite music! So many options and it is so easy to use.

### 5/5 — The best

*2020-12-15, version 5.11.190918*

They have the best speakers and the best APP!

### 5/5 — Functionally extraordinary

*2019-12-30, version 5.11.190918*

Once I figured out HOW to connect a speaker to my WiFi network (using the WPS or password options), it became easier to learn this app. That part was the most frustrating step in connecting. The app itself attempts to walk the user through it, but some steps aren’t clear—like how to get the white SLOW pulse. I still have no idea for what the other faster pulses are used.

This app is complex, with its numerous options available to the user, but I enjoy having the freedom to connect my DT speakers the way I want and listen to my libraries and playlists how I want. And, when there is a technical difficulty (like a disconnect), there are options to troubleshoot the problem and reconnect. Again, the complexity of this app seems purposeful and allows the user the freedom to choose from more options than the ordinary app. I am able to walk through my house and hear my music in various rooms without running wires in the attic or crawl space. Using the WiFi in my house as it’s network works very well and is satisfying. Overall, I’m enjoying this app very much.

### 5/5 — Back working again

*2018-01-27, version 4.41.180122*

Software push, working again. Thank you! Wireless is tough, poor internet at home from Telcos will ruin the experience but it’s not DT fault. Constant tech bugs needing to be fixed.

### 5/5 — Terrible app

*2018-01-20, version 4.1.170726*

Yes speakers and sound bar sound great when the stay connected, and yes I have a new router and modem, ready to trash the WStudio sound bar and my W7 speakers, you pay a lot for something that works half way. Can you guys please update and why no blue tooth or Alexa abilities, get with it and update to the competition! sad sad sad

### 5/5 — Broken Update

*2016-12-23, version 3.60.9625*

I truly love Definitive Technology speakers and I own one W-Studio, three W7, and one W9 along with a full set of their Super Tower speakers. Unfortunately the latest update of the iOS app renders all of those practically useless. Tidal doesn't work at all and other sources fail after one or two songs. Thankfully the free Windows application still functions as intended. Something needs to be done to rectify this broken update quickly.

### 5/5 — A truly great experience

*2014-10-20, version 1.9.3349*

I love the App and the W7 speaker. It is so easy to get things set up and select great music to play in my bedroom. I can't wait to add the W Studio for my family room soon! Being able to stream Pandora whenever I want is awesome!

### 4/5 — Bluetooth connectivity

*2022-03-25, version 5.11.190918*

This app is great, wish speakers did not get disconnected from the app so often though. That would be a great improvement, thanks!

### 4/5 — Good but unstable sometimes

*2021-10-18, version 5.11.190918*

I love the speakers and subwoofer. Great product! However, when going wireless, this is only half the equation. The app was for a long time, unstable. It dropped me off the wireless/bluetooth frequently. Seems to be a bit less of an issue, but would expect this to never happen because of the app. Do this and Definitive could be unstoppable!!

### 4/5 — Wish it was Bluetooth

*2020-07-02, version 5.11.190918*

Wish it was Bluetooth, otherwise great!
