While the PC version is at best clumsy and cluttered, this app is readable and navigable — gets the job done. Albeit with an organization that obviously under staffed and over worked. If you wring out what’s attributed to the NYT and AP, there’s not much to it. ### 2/5 — No good when todays edition won’t load *2023-05-07, version 4.0.0* The app isn’t perfect, but it works. Except for the odd days when the new edition won’t load. No word from DP - no way to learn when it will be available. Surely someone checks this each day? No, I want to stay with the newspaper page. I sometimes have to tap the arrow 5-6 times to get a response Hard to figure out where previous editions reside. Hard to turn a page with a swipe. Pain in the rear. Pluses: zoom feature allows me to zoom in more than before. Nice. It will open on my iphone but who wants to read on a phone. So frustrating. ### 4/5 — Review of Denver Post online version *2022-10-23, version 3.6.24* I do enjoy the Post online but the funnies used to be a lot easier to navigate by simply swiping to the left to see the next cartoon. Now you have to get out of the cartoon you read in 3 seconds then choose the next one & so on. Swiping to the left or right is much faster. There’s just so much wasted space where the kerning ( space between letters) could be relaxed to read the article better. ## Most critical reviews (10 lowest-rated) ### 1/5 — Crashes frequently *2023-05-20, version 4.0.0* This is the only app I have to delete/re-install regularly. It’s pretty bad, and a turn-off to my Denver Post subscription. ### 1/5 — Not very good *2023-01-08, version 4.0.0* Who ever write the app never checked to see if it worked. You cannot read the Sunday comics; because they are on 2 pages they split and only show part so you can’t see the last part. Not good for reading on Sunday. The prior version had a way of seeing 2 pages at the same time. Also takes forever to load; I guess they don’t have the bandwidth for lots of people downloading at the same time. Who would expect everyone to try to download at the same time in the morning? ### 1/5 — Lost features, barely functional, bafflingly bad *2022-12-06* What used to be a barely acceptable app became unusable with the late November update. The web version however has improved greatly, highly recommended on the iPad for landscape… other than hyper sensitive article view. In this update archive issues are woefully hidden. Full screen portrait mode is lost to some terrible layout with large, unnecessary, and non-removable header and footer bars. The needless loss of screen real estate on the iPad is unfathomable in 2022. How could this have seemed like a good idea to anyone? Search only works on previously downloaded issues? Why bother with search at all? “Only search issues I’ve downloaded and read” is a great *option* in a search interface but as a stand-alone it is a sad excuse for a feature. This is either unannounced and forced public alpha testing or simply incompetence from developers new to the platform and completely unfamiliar with newspaper content consumption. Hint: Interface elements no longer need to appear onscreen full time at the expense of content. ### 1/5 — Hate the new update *2022-12-01* The prior version was great. You could access old editions. Navigation and reading was easy on the iPad. I liked being able to click on an article and read the text version in the right side column. Puzzles were fun to do on the iPad. Just click on the puzzle, you’re given an option to “mark up” and you can do all the puzzles on the app using the Apple Pencil. Version 4.0 KILLED all of that. No prior editions, no ability to do puzzles from the app (or even download them), navigation is cumbersome. Horrible update, makes me want to cancel my subscription. ### 1/5 — Horrible, this UX is the WORST! *2022-12-01, version 4.0.0* Please get rid of this, the iPad experience doesn’t even work in portrait. I have a keyboard case and work/read landscape. No scaling, did anyone do any testing at all? 1 star is a gift! I may need to move to another city’s paper so I can enjoy my morning news. Now that they have “upgraded”, the app won’t download. So sad. Best to get your news at the Colorado Sun. ### 1/5 — Latest upgrade NOT an improvement! *2022-11-27, version 4.0.0* I have been using the DP Replica app for a long time, and learned to love the digital features - especially the ability to use markup and an Apple Pencil to complete the daily puzzles. It saved me from having to print them out every day. I really don’t want to have to go back to the old days of printing. I tried to copy and paste the Sudoku into another app (Pencil), and it’s very clunky and sometimes “copy” isn’t even an option at all. I really miss the previous iteration. ### 1/5 — New format to Digital Replica Edition *2022-11-26, version 4.0.0* Formatting of the Digital Replica was recently changed and there is no tool bar that allows access to past editions. Very unfriendly navigation. Been a paid on-line subscriber for many years and this was not a positive change. ### 1/5 — Prepare for login hell… *2022-11-24, version 4.0.0* Any update that invalidates existing valid login credentials is a FAIL. While the new look is refreshing, it was forced on me at an inconvenient time while traveling. Then the update did not transfer login credentials. In a competitive news environment, this is another annoyance for a paying subscriber. This shows the owners of the Denver Post are not sensitive to their remaining customers. ### 1/5 — New Version 11/23/22 *2022-11-23, version 4.0.0* This new version is much more difficult to navigate. It no longer has the continuing page links or easy section jumps. I'm not happy with it at all!
