## What is DerDieDas?

DerDieDas tells you whether it's der, die or das — and now what the noun actually means.

Start typing any German noun and the article appears before you finish the word.

• Der, die or das, with the pattern rule that explains why
• Meanings from Wiktionary, each with an English translation
• All four cases shown in example sentences, translated into English
• Singular and plural side by side — tap either form to switch
• IPA and audio pronunciation for every noun
• Nouns that accept more than one article are flagged as such
• Works offline: thousands of German nouns bundled with the app
• Free, no ads, no in-app purchases

Example sentences and translations are produced on your device, so nothing you look up leaves your iPhone.

Whether you're learning German, preparing for a language exam, or just unsure whether it's "der Tisch" or "die Tisch", DerDieDas has the answer.

## Version history (last 2 releases)

### 1.1 — 2026-08-19

Meanings, translations and plurals.

• Meanings: every noun now shows its dictionary definitions from Wiktionary, each with an English translation, and links out to the full entry.

• English translations for the four-case examples, so you can check that you read the German correctly.

• Singular and plural side by side: look up "Haus" and you also get "die Häuser" — look up a plural and you get the singular back. Tap either form to jump straight to it.

• Sharper article rules: new hints for nouns ending in -in, -nis, -ma and -ium, and the unreliable -er/-el/-en hint is gone. Rules now say "almost always" where German means it.

• The interface is now fully in English, and there's a new app icon.

Definitions are bundled and work offline. Sentences and translations are produced on your device — nothing you look up leaves your iPhone.
