Just tap to play — all good, right? Good luck finding the one of the package thief on your doorstep among the hundreds (or thousands) that are just bushes and trees swaying in a breeze. With no preview, or hilight of what moved to trigger the recording. ** You can save to your computer or device (googleCam can't, btw). Perfect, right? Wrong again! Tap on a recording and a choice pops up to save — before you've seen the video. Obvs, that makes reviewing even more of a pain as well. ** It does work, at least. Which is critical when the camera's direct web interface is completely broken (login is broken in every current browser). ** I have stopped buying this useless crap made by people / companies who have no idea what they are doing. Sadly, somehow, they stay in business to keep making it. ### 2/5 — Notifications gone *2021-06-01, version 1.2.26* Like many others are saying, my cam no longer sends notifications of any kind no matter what setting I try. Luckily, everything else is still functional but notifications are a pretty important feature. It would be nice to see some work put into the app because it used to be a decent camera/app. ### 1/5 — Glitchy and worthless *2019-06-12, version 1.2.14* Get alerts all the time, but there’s no recording for the event. Then I get NO alert or recording for motion that I KNOW is happening. Half the time, the live feed won’t load and the app freezes up. Tossing this camera which is a shame cause I paid a pretty penny for it. It has its limitations but at least if you get an alarm you could see the recording right away. After some iPhone updates or whatever this app is crap. I don’t get any notifications at all, the vdo recording is not available to see until hours later...a mess! I contacted support and they say I’d due to the IOS updates, due to the time change....So what! The main problem is that it alerts all the time, even on the lowest setting on my iPad I can get a constant stream of alerts if it’s raining or windy. I know this should not be because I have a trail cam that has neither of these issues. Lastly, now the app doesn’t even work if I’m not on WiFi so I can only check from home. ### 1/5 — Great when the app works, but it hardly works! *2018-03-28, version 1.2.5* When the app is working and fine... it’s fantastic. The screenshots, scheduling, etc. However, after many weeks, the app has failed about 80% of the time. I always get a black screen, a white screen, or the camera will spend 5 minutes trying to connect. The app is just bad. It would be okay for a Windows 98 application. But on an iPhone, they should have done much better. I wish they had a bug tracker. I get the feeling they actually want to do a good job. ## Most critical reviews (10 lowest-rated) ### 1/5 — Don’t buy anything from Dericam ! *2022-02-27, version 1.2.28* Added a couple of cameras about 2 years ago, both have died while the 5+ year old units are still working, quality has obviously went down the toilet or they’re sending out refurbished units that should have been thrown away instead. Like others have said, the app and the cameras firmware is junk now. Can’t connect, won’t detect motion, no notifications, pretty much useless. Shame as they had it right and then killed their product, maybe they got bought out by one of these garbage overcharging “security camera” companies Ring. Not switching so guess that didn’t work like they thought it would if they did, if I find a good replacement I’ll write another review and post that company’s name. ### 1/5 — This app needs to be updated! *2021-09-19, version 1.2.26* I used to get alerts when these cameras detected movement. After they updated the app, the alert feature totally stopped working!! Now why would ANYONE have security cameras that don’t notify you of possible intruders??? To add insult to injury the “update” feature in the settings menu was ALSO removed so you cannot really do anything and I’ve been unable to go back to the previous version that actually worked and sent out “movement alerts!!! These people obviously DO NOT care about repeat business! I’d give NO STARS if that was an option! ### 1/5 — Does Not Work. *2020-11-03, version 1.2.26* This app never connects to genuine Dericam camera, ever. Connection attempt always spins for inordinate amount of time, then app throws “Disconnected” error. App finds camera, it just never completes initial connection despite verified correct credentials. Total waste of time. ### 1/5 — Terrible *2020-10-17, version 1.2.25* I upgraded this app firmware recently and just like that, Notifications, the most important part for having a camera stoped. I was not getting notifications, I contacted dericam, They suggested I use CamHipro. Then it’s is a regular occurrence to remove the camera from a peak of my lake house and plug it into the router to reset it. How crazy is that. Now it won’t even recognize the camera to do a reset while being plugged directly to the router. Doesn’t seem to be a a very well supported product. Must be some kind of elementary kids developed this crappy app. Look at the time recorded? The date and time are a freaking mess! I wish I didn’t buy their cameras. I bought all 7 of them and I regret! ### 1/5 — Such a sad excuse of an app *2019-07-27, version 1.2.14* The app has only VERY BASIC features compared to connecting to the cameras with a PC. Sort of defeats the purpose of the app. Just a few things that you CAN NOT do from the app: 1) You can not turn off the IR feature of the camera. You can not force the IR feature to stay off by PC either. It defaults to AUTO, and your STUCK with that. It just so happens that I NEED the IR to be OFF at all times because of a window. 2) You can not set the motion alarm areas. If you turn the motion alarm off and back on, it resets the area that you block out back to factory settings. Thanks for the help David. 5-16 Still have a white screen on sd play back. -1 more star until fixed. 5-13 White screen in sd playback. -1 more star. 5-1 Still having trouble with ad playback on iOS. Just getting a white screen. 4-27 Works but now my recorded alerts on the sd card do now play. Just a blank white screen. Please fix. 4-24 Updated. Fixed. Systems are online and functional. Thanks guys. Back to 5 stars for being fully operational. 4-23 Still no app support for an update. 4-22 Doesn't work today either. It was a good app. Now it is useless 4-21 Still not functional on my iPhone. Also needs a 'home' setting to return to when doing a reboot. Currently only way to re enter the camera is to un/replug the camera when there is loss of screen control. Still trying to get access to the recorded videos. ### 3/5 — Just OK *2020-05-31, version 1.2.14* I’ve had a Dericam video camera and the Dericam app for 3 to 4 years. The camera works well except that it sometimes loses the WiFi connection, which might be due to the strength of the WiFi signal at the camera’s location. To reconnect, it has to be shut off and re-powered. The app works OK. It does a good job of controlling camera functions. The main problem with the app is that it does not maintain a connection to the camera when the app is running in the background. When brnging the app back to foreground, it has to reconnect to the camera. For all intents and purposes, placing the app in the background is like closing it. Also, there is no way to preview the video recordings (a preview timeline) to select the time period of interest. You have to open each recording to see if it’s the one you want. Finally, the last time I checked for a firmware update for the camera, the company’s website (a Chinese company) tried to install malware on my desktop computer. This was definitely at odds with company’s commitment to security and privacy, so I won’t be buying more security cameras from them. ### 3/5 — Decent app but certainly needs work *2020-01-16, version 1.2.14* I have used this app for years with my Dericam cameras. I have now added some newer cameras alongside by dericam cameras and with these new cameras and the apps that came with them I had no idea all the nice features I was missing! It seems most new cameras and apps include a “timeline” that can be easily scrolled through to a certain time or motion event recorded on the sd card whereas the dericam app records to the sd card in blocks of time that you must pick to watch one at a time. Also other apps allow you to download clips to your phone’s photo album so you can text or email the clip to someone else. The dericam app does not allow this because although it does allow you to download a clip, it hides it somewhere in some obscure folder you can never find and only plays back through the dericam app itself. So you are technically able to download and view a clip on your phone but you are not able to share it in any way, it is stuck on your phone only. Oddly, this is not the case with still pictures, you can share them normally. I will say that even with these “problems” the app is very reliable and has almost always worked when I needed it to whereas other newer apps with more bells and whistles have sometimes been unreliable. I will continue to use this app because of that reliability but if a newer app with the newer features I mentioned before comes along and proves to be as reliable as this dericam app I will certainly use it. ### 3/5 — No audio *2019-01-20, version 1.2.14* Ever since the latest update I have no audio from the camera mic. The only problem i had was the time recordings kept changing time stamps randomly. Making looking for a certain time frame impossible. The update yesterday is making it even more difficult as less time frames are now showing up in the list. ### 3/5 — Sketchy *2017-12-02, version 1.2.5* The app is great, except when it’s not.
