You fly the gunship. Everything else on the map is somebody's problem to solve, and most of it is shooting at you. Desert Talon is a twelve-mission campaign flown over one continuous desert: a coast, a river with two bridges, a highway, a railway, a canyon, and an airfield at the far end of it. The missions run through that country rather than around it. You will learn where the ridges are. THE CAMPAIGN Cut the enemy's communications. Escort a convoy the length of the map and keep it alive. Drop a bridge at night. Ambush two relief columns before they reach the airfield. Take a crate off a moving train. Put men on your wings and fly them home. Finish on empty tanks, and then finish the man at the head of the canyon. THE HANGAR Eleven aircraft: the AH-64 Apache, T-129 ATAK, Mi-24 Hind, Mi-28 Havoc, RAH-66 Comanche, Ka-52 Alligator, AH-1W Cobra, UH-60 Black Hawk, CH-47 Chinook and AH-6 Little Bird. The eleventh is not for sale — the Hava Börü is what you are given for finishing the campaign. Each one flies differently, carries differently and takes damage differently. Paint them how you like: seven schemes and a glass tint, remembered per aircraft. THE FLYING Two thumbs. The left ring is the cyclic; the right pad is height and sideslip. Cannon, guided missiles, rockets and air-to-air are a ring around the fire button, and only the ones your aircraft actually carries are drawn. Flares defeat a heat-seeker if you put them out before it arrives rather than after. Auto-lock takes what is in front of you and lets go once you have flown past it. There is a hook underneath for lifting a tank into a fight it can win, and room on the wings for the people you came to collect. WHAT IS FREE The first three missions, the skirmish and the endless mode, and four aircraft — the Apache, the T-129 ATAK, the Mi-24 Hind and the Mi-28 Havoc. Enough to learn the aircraft, see the map, and decide. One purchase opens the rest. No currency, no subscription, no advertising, no loot boxes, and nothing else is ever asked for. Plays offline. WINGMEN Two on the wing for the last sortie. They carry six rockets and six minutes of fuel, call bingo when it runs low, and land beside you at a FARP to rearm and refuel. They fight your fight now — what you have locked, and whatever is shooting at you — and they show on the radar, so you can see where they have gone. Flying into one no longer costs either of you armour. FARP AIR DEFENCE A Patriot launcher at every desert FARP, for the gunships that follow you home. The Black Hawk and the Chinook can lift it and put it where the fight is. MISSIONS THAT NOW FINISH Long Range Sweep no longer waits for prisoners it never needed. Armored Fist counts a tank you delivered even if it is destroyed afterwards. The A-50 on Ramp Strike stays destroyed. A timed mission you die on picks the clock up where you left it instead of starting again. FLYING The barrel roll tells you when you are too low for it rather than doing nothing. North is always on the radar. The chevron to your target moves. HANGAR A bigger view of the aircraft, and a list to pick from instead of a row of stamps. Also: the Comanche's rotor turns on the way home, the fuel and armour bars no longer sit on top of the mission list, and the kill camera is yours alone. ### 1.2 — 2026-09-11 Tanks were aiming the wrong way. A T-90 tracking you swung its turret half a circle away from what it was shooting at, and the shells left from behind the engine deck. Fixed on every tank in the campaign. A green double chevron now floats out ahead of the aircraft, pointing at the next thing on your strike list. It blinks if you turn away from it or sit still, and stops the moment you go back to it. North is marked on the radar while the free camera is on. The disc turns with the aircraft there, so until now it had no fixed reference at all. Finishing the free missions used to leave CONTINUE pointing at a mission you had not bought. It went to the menu, came back, and said nothing about why. It now says what it costs. ### 1.1 — 2026-09-07 TRAINING A new first mission. The Colonel flies it with you, off your right shoulder, and teaches the ring one weapon at a time: the cannon on a truck that does not shoot back, the guided missile on a gun the cannon will not go through, rockets on a mast, the air-to-air on a helicopter. Then he empties your racks and teaches flares and the barrel roll against live launches. Nothing on the range can fail you. RESTORE A PURCHASE, FROM THE MENU Under ABOUT, on the front screen. It no longer depends on having flown anything, and it says what the store told it rather than sitting silent. MEN ON THE GROUND A prisoner caught by your own ordnance goes down where he stood and leaves a mark, and a man thrown off the wings lands dead rather than standing up in the sand and walking away. FIXED The kill camera no longer costs you an aircraft.
