DESTROYERS of the U.S. NAVY is a comprehensive digital history of America’s destroyer force, combining authoritative narratives with an unparalleled photographic archive. The app presents the service histories and imagery of every U.S. Navy destroyer, bringing more than a century of naval history vividly to life.

Featuring over 1,100 high-quality photographs of more than 1,000 ships, the app is optimized for the iPad and the latest iPhones. Advanced zoom capabilities allow users to examine photographs in exceptional detail, revealing features and moments that are often lost in print or standard displays.

The app includes full-text search, enabling users to explore ship histories in depth—for example, instantly identifying all destroyers that participated in the Battle of Midway. Ships can also be browsed alphabetically, chronologically, or by class, offering multiple, intuitive paths through the material.

DESTROYERS of the U.S. NAVY provides complete service histories for every destroyer, from commissioning through deactivation, reserve status, or scrapping. What’s New in This Version

This release represents a major modernization of the app. The underlying codebase has been completely rewritten, resulting in significantly improved performance and full compatibility across all supported iOS devices.

Ship histories have been comprehensively updated through 2025, incorporating the latest service records and dispositions. The app also introduces full-text search, allowing users to quickly locate ships by name or content. In addition, new browsing options make it possible to explore ships chronologically, alphabetically, or by ship class, providing more flexible and intuitive ways to navigate the collection.
