I can’t make it through a single paragraph of an article if I dare scroll downward in not a perfectly straight line and it takes me to the previous page. I’ve stopped using DEV/Forem all together because it’s absolutely impossible to read anything when you have to go back to the email you opened the article from every 5 seconds to get back to reading because you were swiped back to the homepage ### 3/5 — Really need dark mode *2025-09-28, version 2.3.1* Sadly this app is unusable for me because there doesn’t seem to be a dark mode ### 2/5 — UX? What's that? *2025-03-22, version 2.0.9* Full of theme flashes, UI snaps, inaccessible menus, endless web view stacking, overly sensitive full screen swipe gestures, etc. The other official dev.to app is miles better and it's not even that great itself. No clue who you guys are letting manage and/or QA this product but they should do something else instead. ### 2/5 — Used to be awesome, then they broke dark mode *2025-02-19, version 2.0.0* This used to be an app that was pretty well designed, then they released version 2 that resulted in one of the worst dark mode implementations I have ever seen. While flashes between screen, notifications and app bars are stuck in light mode, and some pages don’t seem to support dark mode at all. Real shame because dark mode used to be really well supported by this app. ### 2/5 — Terrible sign up process *2022-05-13, version 1.4.4* The sign up process via mobile app is confusing. This happens consistently, so I can never finish reading an article. Just try the app out. =] It doesn't even have to be only about programming, there's all kinds of communities. I'm in a few, but only mess around in Dev so far. I have tried numerous communities, never stuck around for long. Didn't seem to be the place for me, people, atmosphere, just the general mindset of people. That's all I have to say about that. Back to Forem! Just getting it to check out the Dev section alone is worth it. The "unorganized" play it has is actually (coming from somebody who's majorly OCD) refreshing. Has all kinds of good reads, friendly people, awesome information, resources, source, etc. From the moment I posted there, it was an awesome experience to be honest and for the most part, I don't like most people, hahaha. Seriously though, they don't bash you on your questions! They're understanding, friendly, helpful, and just good people it seems. I really, really recommend giving it a shot. Even if you're shy, just do a small, small post about what you're interested in and that's all. Or just bookmark the interesting stuff, it has truly brought a new light to this "journey". Use your Apple account to register, simple, no extra hassle. If you did read this, thanks! Hope the place is as good for you as it is for me. ### 5/5 — Centralized Collection of Developer Content *2021-06-04, version 1.0.3* I’ve been a DEV user for some time now, and I was honestly really pleased by the creation of the Forem app to gather all my DEV community profiles together all in one place! I can individually switch communities in just one click (like switching Discord servers) and access individual content from that community. Finally, no more dealing with browser issues and tediously switching communities! So far it’s been an excellent experience and easy to switch between communities.
