## What is DhyanaMala?

DhyanaMala is a Sanskrit chanting app for daily sadhana: a mala counter for japa, 260 curated mantras, 24 Sacred Texts to read as a full parayana, and today's panchang. Chant a Ganapati, Gayatri or navagraha mantra, count 108 beads, read the Bhagavad Gita or the Hanuman Chalisa, look up today's tithi and nakshatra, or find the next Ekadashi. It is free, with no in-app purchases, no ads and no account, and every feature works offline.

MORNING: THE PANCHANG
The app opens here, computed on your device.
- Tithi, nakshatra, yoga, karana and the lunar month (masa), with meanings and start and end times
- Sunrise, solar noon, sunset, and auspicious windows (muhurta)
- The planetary hour (hora) running now, with a graha mantra to chant while it lasts
- Enter your birth details once to find your janma nakshatra and its mantra

THROUGH THE DAY: THE MALA
- A digital counter with 27, 54 or 108 beads
- Rounds of 1, 3, 7, 11, 21, 108, or no limit
- Haptics on each bead and at the close of every round
- The screen stays awake, and the volume buttons can count for you, so your eyes can stay closed

THE MANTRAS
- 260 curated mantras in 19 groups: 45 widely chanted mantras, the 32 Forms of Ganapati, 27 nakshatra mantras and their 27 Gayatris, 15 Gayatri mantras, 13 for wealth including the complete Ashtalakshmi Stotram, 12 Jyotirlingas, 10 Dashavatara, 9 Navagraha with 9 Navagraha Gayatris and 9 Navagraha Stotrams, 8 Ashta Murti, 7 Devi, 7 graha mantras, 6 beej mantras, and sets of 6 each for success, Subrahmanya, Venkateswara and Ayyappa
- Readings are checked against primary texts, and many mantras carry a cited source
- IAST transliteration and an English meaning with every mantra

THE SCRIPTS
- Four scripts throughout: every mantra and every Sacred Text reads in Devanagari, Telugu, Kannada or Malayalam, so you read in the letters you grew up with

SADHANA: THE VOW YOU KEEP
Sadhana has its own tab, and your chanting counts toward the vow on its own.
- A fixed day vow, for example 40 days
- A cumulative japa goal, for example one lakh
- A 27 day vow that follows the Moon through the nakshatras, chanting the Ganapati form belonging to each
- Optional morning and evening reminders

WHEN YOU SIT: MEDITATION
- A timer with presets, ambient sounds, bell intervals and background audio
- Trataka, steady gazing
- Antar Mauna, a course in six stages
- Pranayama, four techniques with their traditional ratios
- Nirguna, self inquiry
- Manasika Puja, mental worship
- An optional mood check before and after, with a trend

EVENING: THE SACRED TEXTS
- The Bhagavad Gita complete, all 700 verses in 18 chapters, in Sankara's recension, with a chapter list to move through it
- 23 more Sacred Texts to read as a full parayana, among them Hanuman Chalisa, Vishnu Sahasranama, Lalita Sahasranama, Shiva Tandava Stotram, Aditya Hrudayam, Ganapati Atharvashirsha, Kanakadhara Stotram and Bhaja Govindam
- The same four scripts, with IAST alongside, so you can follow the line you are reading

SACRED DAYS: THE DAYS THAT ASK MORE
- A calendar of vrats with every Ekadashi named, Vaikuntha, Nirjala, Mokshada and the rest
- Opt-in reminders for Ekadashi fasting and for Amavasya, the ancestors' day

ON YOUR APPLE DEVICES
- A standalone Apple Watch japa counter, tapped bead by bead, with haptics
- Home and Lock Screen and StandBy widgets for the daily mantra and panchang
- Siri Shortcuts
- Mindful minutes to Apple Health, opt in and off by default
- iPhone and iPad

BACKUP AND CORRECTIONS
- Your chanting history, sadhana vows and saved mantras can be copied to your own iCloud Drive, daily or on demand, so it survives a new phone, or the app being deleted
- When a reading is corrected against its source, it can reach you without waiting for an App Store update

PRIVACY
- No account, no ads, no tracking, no analytics
- Free, with no in-app purchases and nothing to subscribe to

Chant, keep the count, and let the day hold the rest.

## Version history (last 5 releases)

### 1.4.2 — 2026-08-28

The Bhagavad Gita, complete. All 700 verses in eighteen chapters, in Sankara's recension, with a chapter list to move through it. Like every Sacred Text it reads in Devanagari, Telugu, Kannada or Malayalam beside the transliteration, and it opens straight away however long the text.

The Ashtalakshmi Stotram, complete. The Wealth collection has always named all eight forms of Lakshmi while offering only the opening verse. The other seven are here now: Dhanya, Dhairya, Gaja, Santana, Vijaya, Vidya and Dhana, each with its meaning and its provenance stated plainly. The library goes to 260 mantras.

Sacred Texts can be sorted. By the traditional order, by name, by deity, or shortest first, so you can find something that fits the time you have.

Sadhana at a glance. The Sadhana tab now opens with a short list of your vows and what each one still asks of you today, so you can see whether anything is pending without reading further. Below it, each vow keeps its own card with where it stands and the shape of the practice so far.

Your practice as a mala. The last twenty seven days are drawn as a quarter mala, one bead a day, and below it a full mala of one hundred and eight days. Tap either to read why those are the numbers: twenty seven is one circuit of the Moon through the nakshatras, and each nakshatra has four padas, so twenty seven times four is the hundred and eight of a full mala.

Mantras Chanted. Every mantra you have ever chanted, most japa first, with the malas and sittings behind each one.

Fixes to the 27 Nakshatra Ganapati vow. Your japa is now counted against the nakshatra it was chanted in rather than the calendar day, which corrects two things: a nakshatra could be marked kept after only a bead or two when the Moon moved on partway through a day, and japa that carried across midnight within a single nakshatra was discarded rather than counted. The card could also invite you to chant nothing at all, and the evening reminder failed to switch itself off for a nakshatra vow you had already kept.

Regional Script now really does follow Settings. Changing it once had stopped reaching Sacred Texts for anyone who had used the reader's own script switcher, and choosing None still showed a regional script.

An aligned tab bar, and smaller corrections. A Favorites tile no longer sits near the top of the Library showing zero before you have starred anything, and a text with a single section no longer prints a heading that just repeats its own name. Wording throughout: Several screens still sent you to a Journey tab, which became Sadhana in the previous release, and one pointed to the Library for a card that now lives on Panchang.

### 1.4.1 — 2026-08-27

Sadhana has its own tab, next to Chant. Your vows now lead the screen instead of sitting below lifetime totals, you can start one from there, and a small dot on the tab tells you when a round is still owed. Sadhana used to appear in three places showing two different layouts; now there is one.

Backup and restore. Your practice keeps a copy in iCloud Drive, so your chanting history, sadhana vows and favourites survive even if the app is deleted. Back up whenever you like, or let DhyanaMala do it once a day.

Fixes to the 27 Nakshatra Ganapati vow. Opening it from the sadhana list did nothing at all. It also showed a blank line on the Chant tab, and its progress was measured by calendar day rather than by nakshatra in several places. A vow that follows the Moon is now treated as one everywhere.

New app icon.

Scriptural sources for 66 more mantras, and corrections throughout. Five rounds of adversarial checking against primary texts found four attributions that named the wrong text entirely, a devotional line that was not a Sanskrit word, and a nakshatra whose translation had borrowed its neighbour's deity. One duplicate mantra has been retired; if you had favourited it or chanted it, that history moves to the copy that remains.

Corrections now reach you without an update. From this version on, DhyanaMala can receive corrected mantra and Sacred Text readings directly.

### 1.4.0 — 2026-08-22

The largest update since launch. Read every mantra in your own script, keep a sadhana without losing a day, and find any mantra in seconds.

• Regional Script: read every mantra and Sacred Text in Telugu, Kannada or Malayalam, beside the Devanagari and the transliteration. Set it once in Settings, under Personalized. The Sanskrit words stay the same; only the letters change.

• The 32 forms of Ganapati: each of the thirty two named forms from the Mudgala Purana, with its mantra, its meaning and what it is invoked for.

• A 27 day Ganapati sadhana that follows the Moon: each day you chant the form belonging to the nakshatra the Moon stands in, and the vow is complete when all twenty seven have been kept. A day missed is not lost; that nakshatra comes round again. Your Nakshatra now shows that form too, beside the Devata, Beej and Gayatri mantras.

• Sadhana at a glance: your active vows now sit at the top of the Panchang screen, showing whether today's round is done. Journey keeps the full history, day by day, so you can see the shape of a mandala as you walk it.

• Sadhana reminders: a morning note of the day's japa, and an evening one only if a round is still open. Nothing arrives once your day is complete.

• 58 deity illustrations: every one of the 27 nakshatras now shows its own presiding deity, including the Ashvini Kumaras, the Ashta Vasus, the Vishvedevas and the whole Dashavatara.

• Find any mantra: search the library by name, by Sanskrit or by deity, and sort by tradition, alphabetically or by deity. Searching for Shiva now finds all twelve Jyotirlingas.

• Sacred Text corrections: the Ganapati Atharvashirsha now reads in the plain form you chant from, and the avagraha is restored across thirteen texts in Telugu and Malayalam, where it had been dropped.

• A rebuilt widget in all four home screen sizes, with the day's deity.

• Your mantra of the day now truly rotates, and the Lock Screen mala opens straight back to your session.

Thank you for practicing with DhyanaMala.

### 1.3.2 — 2026-07-01

This update brings a warmer, more consistent look across every screen, and makes your practice tracking more complete.

• A warm, unified look on every screen — the meditation, guided-practice, and reference screens now share the same devotional canvas.
• Mānasika Pūjā now appears in your Journey and counts toward your streak.
• Your guided practices — Trāṭaka, Antar Mauna, Prāṇāyāma, Nirguṇa — are now named in your history.
• The screen stays awake through timed practices, so it never dims mid-session.
• A gentle safety check before advanced breath-retention (kumbhaka) techniques.
• Sharper accuracy — Tarabala, janma-day and hora reminders now follow your chosen Panchang city.
• Smoother audio — chanting ambience recovers after calls, and hardware volume-button counting is more reliable.

Thank you for practicing with DhyanaMala.
