## What is DiagramAR?

As many students have experienced, trying to understand complex 3-dimensional diagrams displayed on a 2-dimensional textbook page can be quite confusing. DiagramAR solves this problem by efficiently converting 2D Matplotlib figures from lecture notes into immersive AR visualizations in real time. The user can move the figure in their surroundings and manipulate the values of the figure’s equations.

When an instructor creates a 2D figure, the attributes of that figure are stored in a JSON file. This file can be delivered to the app via a menu system, or can be encoded in a QR code right next to the 2D figure in the lecture notes. For less complex figures with smaller JSON files, the app can obtain a JSON string that is encoded directly within the QR code, requiring no internet connection for the user.

Figures can be made available on the DiagramAR app as automatic byproducts of the instructor’s preparation of the lecture notes. In this way, the AR figures are created with little additional work on both the students’ and the instructor's part.

This app was originally developed at Boston University to support teaching introductory linear algebra. It currently supports visualizations for fundamental linear algebra concepts, such as vectors, lines, planes, and curved surfaces.

## Frequently asked questions about DiagramAR

### What is DiagramAR?

DiagramAR is an augmented reality application designed to help users visualize and interact with complex 3D geometric diagrams from 2D textbook figures. It converts Matplotlib figures into immersive AR experiences, allowing for real-time manipulation of equations and exploration of mathematical concepts.

### How does DiagramAR work?

Instructors can create 2D figures with associated attributes stored in a JSON file. This file can be delivered via a menu or encoded in a QR code next to the figure in lecture notes. The app then uses this data to render the 3D visualization in augmented reality.

### What mathematical concepts does DiagramAR support?

DiagramAR was initially developed to support introductory linear algebra at Boston University. It currently provides visualizations for fundamental concepts such as vectors, lines, planes, and curved surfaces.

### Can I use DiagramAR offline?

Yes, for less complex figures with smaller JSON files, the app can obtain a JSON string encoded directly within a QR code. This allows for offline use without requiring an internet connection.

### What devices is DiagramAR available on?

DiagramAR is available for iPhone and iPad devices. It is designed to leverage the AR capabilities of these platforms for an immersive learning experience.

### Is DiagramAR suitable for younger students?

DiagramAR has an age rating of 4+, making it accessible for a wide range of users. Its visual approach can simplify complex topics for learners of various ages.

### How often is DiagramAR updated?

The latest version of DiagramAR is 1.1.1, which was last updated on November 12, 2020. While updates may not be frequent, the app provides a stable and functional educational tool.

### Does DiagramAR have ads?

No, DiagramAR does not contain advertisements. As a free application, it focuses on providing an uninterrupted educational experience for its users.
