## What is Diamond Scout?

Diamond Scout turns a game's play-by-play into the scouting report you want before the first pitch.

Share or paste a game's play-by-play and Diamond Scout reads it line by line — who batted, where the ball went, how the at-bat ended — then builds spray charts, batting lines, and a plan for the team you face next. Everything it finds is shown to you for review before a game is saved.

SPRAY CHARTS THAT READ AT A GLANCE
Every batted ball is placed on the field and labelled with a two-letter code, so the shape of a hitter is obvious in one look. Green is a hit, red is an out, grey is a sacrifice. Filter any chart to hits, outs, sacrifices, ground balls, or balls in the air.

HITTERS AND THEIR TENDENCIES
Full batting lines with average, on-base, slugging, and OPS. Sort by any stat, set a minimum plate-appearance threshold so small samples stop topping the list, and open a hitter for a game-by-game log and an average trend.

A DEFENSIVE PLAN, NOT JUST DATA
Diamond Scout reads each hitter's spray and tells your fielders where to stand, in steps, scaled to the field you actually play on — 46/60, 50/70, or 60/90. When a hitter genuinely sprays the ball everywhere, it says so plainly instead of inventing a shift that opens both gaps.

DIAMOND IQ: THE WHOLE OPPONENT AT ONCE
Pick any team on your file and get the read before you see them — first-pitch tendencies, two-out damage, where in the order the damage sits, whether their starter fades the second time through, when in the game they score, who runs and who gets caught, and whether they will bunt. Every finding says how many trips it rests on, and nothing is said until a team has 25 plate appearances on file, because a rate built on fewer sounds confident and is wrong.

POCKET CARDS FOR THE FIELDERS
The scouting screen is organised by hitter — right for the coach preparing, wrong for the boy in right field. Printed fielding cards pivot the same plan: nine cards, one per position, each carrying the whole opposing order with that fielder's own instruction beside every hitter. Six to a landscape sheet with faint lines along every cut, each folding once into a back pocket. A full set — nine fielders plus three for the dugout — is two pages.

PITCHING REPORTS
Strike and ball rates, strikeouts looking and swinging, walks, hit batters, ground-ball rate, hits and extra-base hits allowed, innings, and the putaway pitch — whatever the play-by-play gives up.

BUILT FOR THE DUGOUT
A lineup card for the nine hitters you are about to face, count-leverage splits, speed profiles from baserunning, and a dugout mode read at arm's length. Every card notes how much data sits behind it, so you know when a number is a hint and when it is a pattern.

A ROSTER THAT LEARNS
Correct a name once and the original spelling is kept as an alias, so the same player is recognised next time you import. Merge duplicates, set handedness, and keep opponents separate from your own team.

YOURS, AND YOURS ALONE
Every game is read and every statistic computed on your own device, and the whole app works signed out — no account is required to scout, chart, or print. Sign in only to sync your games to your other devices or share them with your staff. Back up to a file whenever you like and restore it on a new phone. Share a player card or scouting report as an image.

A demo season is built in, so every screen has real baseball in it before you import anything. Diamond Scout is free to install and includes five game imports. Diamond Scout Pro unlocks unlimited importing for $4.99 per month or $49.99 per year. Subscriptions renew automatically unless cancelled at least 24 hours before the end of the current period, and can be managed in Settings. Games you have already imported stay readable whether or not you subscribe.

Diamond IQ

Pick any team on your file and get the whole read at once — what they do well, where you can get at them, and who to have a plan for. First-pitch tendencies, two-out damage, where in the order the damage actually sits, whether their starter fades the second time through, when in the game they score, who runs and who gets caught, and whether they will bunt on you. Every finding says how many trips it rests on, and it stays quiet until there is enough on file to be worth saying.

Pocket cards for the fielders

Nine printed cards, one per position, each carrying the whole opposing order with that fielder's own instruction beside every hitter — so the boy in right field gets nine lines that are all his, instead of a screen of calls for eight other people. Six to a landscape sheet with faint lines along every cut, each folding once into a back pocket. A full set is the nine fielders plus three dugout cards, so it prints as two pages. The pitcher's card carries how to work each hitter rather than where to stand; the catcher's carries who runs and who bunts.

Scoring position, read properly

When the feed named a runner who was put out, the trips behind him used to go unread all the way to the third out. Now a named retirement clears him off his base and the half keeps being read — including the two places the feed hides it, on the pitch line where a caught stealing or pickoff is written, and in a plain statement of where a runner remains. Across a 198-game file this cut unreadable scoring-position trips by more than two thirds. What still goes unread is genuinely silent, and is left alone rather than guessed at.

A demo season is built in

Every screen now has real baseball in it before you import anything, so Diamond IQ and the fielding cards have something to show on day one. Every club and player in it is renamed, each game is badged SAMPLE, and it clears in one tap from Settings.

Corrections to how the play-by-play is read

Several wordings were being misread, and each one moved real numbers. Runs written with no name attached were not counted at all, so a pitcher taken for six could show a clean sheet. Hit batsmen on feeds that leave the hitter's name out were dropped whole. An out written as "out on infield fly to shortstop" matched nothing, so a boy with two outs in a game could read 0-for-1. All are now read, and a runner thrown out on the bases is still correctly not counted as a trip to the plate.

Some of these change figures you may already have written down, and they should — they were understated. Open Settings > Your data > Re-read out-of-date games and you will be shown a before-and-after of every stat that moved, player by player.

A career page built for scouting

Open any hitter and his career now leads with his totals and his spray chart, then the scouting cards: where he puts the ball and how to line up against it, what he does ahead and behind in the count, his full line, what he does once he reaches base, and how he fares his first, second and third time up in a game. Below that, the short game — bunts, sacrifices, times safe, and his bunt-for-hit average.

Against the pitchers

Every hitter's page now lists each arm he has faced, with his totals against that one pitcher gathered across every game the two have met.

Two names for one club

If a scorekeeper typed the league where he meant the team, that club was split in half — two rosters, two sets of stats. Scout > Teams can now fold them together, and it ranks the candidates by how much of the roster matches.

Also in this update: doubleheaders are correctly read as two games, innings a scorekeeper ended early no longer credit the pitcher with outs nobody recorded, spray charts are drawn to the field size you actually play on, and pocket-sized fielding cards print nine to a position.

### 1.2.0 — 2026-09-08

Runs the importer was missing

A play-by-play can name the runner who scored in three different places: after a comma on the result line, ahead of the result in the same paragraph, or on its own line underneath the at-bat that drove him in. That last shape is what the GameChanger app produces, and in a feed captured there it is most of the runs. Only the first was being read, so the rest went uncounted -- and a missed run carries an earned run and an ERA with it.

Two real games have now been replayed against their official stat sheets. The app matches the book on runs, hits, and every pitcher's innings, walks and strikeouts. Re-import a game to pick this up; some pitching lines will move by more than a little.

Also in this update:

- Daylight mode. The app was locked to its night palette, which is close to unreadable at two in the afternoon -- which is when you are actually setting a defence. Settings > Appearance now offers Daylight, Night, or whatever the phone is doing.
- What you set stays set. The season filter, the Chart/Box/Recap choice and the Leaders qualifier no longer reset every time the app closes.
- Search your games by opponent, by date, or by a player who appeared in one.
- Tap any spray chart to open it full size, then pinch to zoom.
- A rolling backup kept on the phone, with the date of the last one shown.
- Report a line the importer couldn't read -- the text only, with no player names -- so the feed variant that broke can be fixed.
